Ilan El is the creative engine behind ilanel design studio. After practicing as an architect, he was enticed to undertake Industrial Design Masters program and to submerse himself in design and production of bespoke lighting in Melbourne, Australia.Experiential illumination is his passion and he designs with philosophical awareness and the enjoyment of the spatial relationships light creates with environments. Many of his designs are interactive, contemporary and playful, making them whimsical and engaging. His unique understanding of people and spaces, as well as his ability to work with a huge variety of materials, makes him shine with bespoke briefs.

Rain. Light drops.The concept behind rain is illuminating: a multi-sensory experience of sight and sound that invites touch and interaction.

Rain captures the shimmery sparkle of raindrops frozen in descent and voices a whimsy chime of flutes. Individual drops are visually quite subtle, but gain tremendous strength when multiplied and clustered in large groups.

It is a playful piece with the sleekness of a design classic that is suitable for residential and commercial use.

Black Rain.Black rain features elongated light drops, created in a complex process.From the outside they are painted in a sensual satin black finish whilst their exposed linished interior enhances and refract illumination.

A sequence of slots wraps around the drops and throws magnificent patterns on its surroundings.

The kahdu collection.The kahdu collection features hand crafted lampshades based on a mathematical composition of a high-impact pattern. Its invasive effects are irresistible, and while intriguing, also visually striking.

These bespoke pieces appear to be ‘breathing’ and give the impression of movement and depth, reminiscent of the Op-Art movement of the 1960s.

Kahdu offers a bold sculptural presence and is a perfect statement to any modern space.

OraOra is a piece that mediates between light and darkness through transparent˙colour. It is an interactive luminary that engages in experimentation and exploration of coloured illumination.

Ora enables personalization, for coloured light can have an emotional meaning and therefore can influence the atmosphere in a space. To control its outcome, three knobs were fitted; each of these adjusts one colour spectrum - red, green and blue.

Ora’s form was inspired by celestial worship and meditative symbols and appears as a minimalist wall button.

Kaf LampThe Kaf Lamp has a minimalist and contemporary design, juxtaposed by the use of copper - an old world material. It is a slick and functional reading light that radiates warm glow with minimal˙presence.

The Kaf Lamp is fitted with remote controlled LEDs and an engraved acrylic diffuser. Each engraved pattern is chosen by its owners, making each lamp unique and a one off creation.
