Write about TWERKINGLet’s try an example throughout

this show, a fun one…

How to Begin Start by writing what you can about the topicThink about the 5 Ws – who, what, where, when, why & howAdd to it by stating your opinionUse the PPE method of development (make a point, prove it, develop it

Strategy 1:Visualize• Create a mental image of the

topic, and write what you see• Put yourself in the situation

and think about sensations (what you see, hear, taste, touch, & smell)

Strategy 2:Elaborate on Details• Remember to “show” and not

just “tell”• Instead of making statements,

describe them• Describe action, physical states

(setting) & internal states (feelings)

Example: The singer was twerking.Rihanna was bouncing rhythmically jiving on stage, her derriere rapidly flapping to the beat.

Strategy 3:Provide Examples• If what you have written is

too brief, use examples to elaborate

Strategy 4:Make Connections• When you get stuck, think

about how you connect to the issue• Where have seen/heard about it?• What does it remind you of?• What does it make you think about?• Have you experienced it in your own

life?• What’s its role in popular culture?

Strategy 5:Question• Ask questions about the topic.• Question the topic itself

Strategy 6:Add QuotationsIf or when you have the opportunity, and it will benefit your message, add quotes that support or speak to the topic

Strategy 7:Be ImaginativeDepending on the topic, use your imagination. Be creative, innovative, original – think outside the box!

Demonstrate Persistence!

With any task you are given, your success depends greatly on your ability to be persistent, to work hard, and, essentially, to care about what you are doing. If you do not care about the topic, care about your success, and work with it. You can write about anything, if you truly WANT to.

Your task…Develop a notebook activity for your

class
