Houston Toad Scientific name:
Bufo Houstonensis
General Characteristics: 3 to 3.5 inches long. Females are larger than
males. Colorations varies form
from light brown to gray or purplish gray
Males have a dark throat, which appears bluish when distended.

Houston Toads are found in pine, hardwood and oak forests with loose, deep sands.
RANGE Named for where it was first discovered, this endangered toad is now
very rare and can only be found in southeast Texas counties. The largest population is currently found in Bastrop County.

Houston Toad Breeding:
Mainly during March, males call to attract females from in or near shallow water. Males are ready to breed by the age of 1 year old, while females reach 2 years old before they begin to breed.

been useful in medicines for treating heart and nervous disorders in humans.
