LIGHTING SOURCES

Natural light comes from natural sources, such as the sun or a flame.

Colors are more true in natural lighting.

ARTIFICIAL LIGHT includes:

INCANDESCENT LIGHTING is produced by electricity passing through a filament in a glass bulb.

This light tends to be warm & flattering.

FLUORESCENT LIGHT is produced when chemicals inside a glass tube transform ultraviolet rays.

Costs more than incandescent, but lasts a long time.

Fluorescent light comes in colors;

warm-white and cool-white

• Cool-white light is very efficient, blends well with sunlight, and makes colors look good

• Warm-white light is cost efficient but is not flattering to some colors

COMPACT FLUORESCENT BULBS (CFLs) are fluorescent lights that screw into regular incandescent light

sockets.

CFLs save energy and last for about 9000 hours.

FIBER OPTIC light flows through hair-like strands of glass. Does not give off any heat.

LIGHT EMITING DIODES (LEDs) are made of crystals on silicon chips about the size of a grain of salt.
