HOST PACKET Your DAP Contact: Sonia Palmer | 612.874.7063 | spalmer@mndap.org
Your attitude is key to a successful event. Raising money to end
domestic abuse and support an organization doing just that is
something to be proud of.
Send an email or letter to your potential guests before the event
that explains DAP’s mission and work, as well as your reasons for
supporting us.
Look into whether your employer will match contributions from
your party or will contribute to DAP in another way.
Find a new local business to partner with on food or venue - they
can use the advertising!
Send out an email reminder with directions the day before your
party.
Telephone follow-up is very important. The invitation alone is not
enough. Plan to spend time on the phone, gently coaxing people
to come out of their nests.
Thank them over and over again. They are contributing to DAP
while honoring you at the same time. Please remember to feel
how very good that feels—to be generating support to end do-
mestic violence.
Follow up! Let people know how your party went, how much was
raised, and how much it meant to you and to DAP that they partic-
ipated.
Don’t forget to send your Event Report which DAP uses to help
other Party With Purpose hosts.

IS OUR IDEA OF AN OPPORTUNITY
WHAT ARE THE HOST’S
RESPONSIBILITIES?
DAP supports your Party With Purpose
efforts with invitations, delivering the DAP
presentation or sending you a video or
other materials if you are hosting an out-of
-town party, the sign up sheet,
brochures, remittance envelopes and will
work one on one with you to determine
other support needs you may have. Your
contact for Parties With Purpose is Sonia
Palmer at 612.874.7063 or
spalmer@mndap.org.
If hosting social gatherings is not your
thing you may be interested in the Friends
Asking Friends volunteer program. DAP
supports you in your efforts to create a
personal online fundraising campaign that
you (and a team, if you choose) host. Give
your friends the opportunity to engage
with DAP and to invest in an end to domes-
tic abuse. Check out the Friends Asking
Friends page on our website at
DomesticAbuseProject.org.
ONLINE EVENTS
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO HOST? The host pays
nothing to DAP to host their party. The costs incurred for
hosting the party (food, beverages, venue, etc.) are paid
for by the host(s).
CAN MY GUESTS MAKE A DONATION ONLINE BEFORE THE
EVENT? Yes, and many will if they are invited but can not
attend. DAP will set up a link on our website where your
guests can RSVP and make a donation.
DO I SEND AN EVITE OR PRINTED INVIATION? Whichever
one you choose DAP can provide it for you. We offer
online RSVP service as well.
WHO DO I INVITE? Anyone and everyone!
MY FRIENDS DON’T HAVE MONEY TO DONATE—CAN WE
DO SOMETHING ELSE? Resist the urge to decide for your
friends whether or not they can or should make an
investment in a cause. Many people make contributions
monthly or donate a small amount - all gifts are welcome
and giving should not be reserved for the wealthy.
Another way to contribute to DAP is by connecting others
to our mission. Someone who makes a modest gift at
your party may connect someone else who is involved a
business or foundation who could make a major gift—or
provide DAP with much needed assistance and contacts.
Finally , there are many ways to get involved with DAP.

FREQUENTY ASKED QUESTIONS
We seek to permanently break the inter-generational cycle of family
violence by leading societal change and by providing men, women and
children with essential tools needed to eliminate violence in their lives.
A Party With Purpose is any social gather-
ing that in addition to socializing, network-
ing and having a great time...the guests
are asked to make a donation to Domestic
Abuse Project - or DAP, as we call it.
There are four elements that make your
party a Party With Purpose:
1. Guests are invited by the party host
knowing that in addition to being a
social event, the party is also a fund-
raiser for DPA.
2. There is a 15-20 minute uplifting
presentation about DAP. If your party
is in the Twin Cities metro area, a DAP
staff person will join your party and
deliver this presentation. If your party
is not local to the Twin Cities,
materials and/or a video will be sent to
you for this element of your party.
3. Email addresses and guest names are
collected.
4. Money is raised for DAP (no minimum
or maximum).
You bring the Party. We bring the Purpose.

accessible to all.
Innovation– as a core
value of DAP’s work
exploring new partner-
ships and strategies for
ending domestic abuse.
Helping EVERY member
of a family to heal from
the domestic abuse they
suffer, witness or
perpetrate through DAP
therapy services.
Connecting victims to
DAP advocates who can
help them in the time of
crisis — in their own
language.
Set a date, time and venue for your get-
together.
Invite guests electronically or with printed
invitations.
Buy food and beverage for the party.
Plan the agenda for the get-together.
Welcome guests and socialize.
Gather guests together to listen to the brief
DAP program.
Tell your guests why you are hosting the
party—share why you care.
Introduce DAP representative.
After DAP speaks, invite your friends to make a
donation to help end domestic abuse.
Return to socializing.
The next day thank your guests, then send the
donations and Event Report to DAP.
