HORECA 2015 A REsOundingsuCCEssThe 22nd edition of HORECA Lebanon, under patronage of his excellency the Lebanese Minister of Tourism, Mr. Michel Pharaon, proved its worth for both the national and regional hospitality industry. During the four-day event, held at BIEL, Beirut from April 20-23, visitors and exhibitors flocked to one of the biggest shows in the region, from around the world, including guest of honor three Michelin star chef Frédéric Anton. As well as events and competitions, the trade professionals and key hospitality players were able to discover the latest solutions and products to enhance the guest experience, thus helping the industry to be better prepared for the future.

THREE sHOwsin OnE vEnuEThree different exhibitions took place under one roof at HORECA this year: The International Food, Beverage & Hospitality Exhibition, The International Food Exhibition, and the Beirut Wine and Spirits Exhibition.
350 exhibitors, 25 international experts, 500 participants in 20 competitions and daily workshops, all took part in making HORECA the ideal place to discover products and solutions that would enhance guests’ culinary experiences.
More than 15,000 visitors from trade professionals and key hospitality players found the information and tools needed to prepare for the future of the industry.
HORECA is the place where young talents are rewarded for their creativity talent and skills. It is also a platform where the Lebanese industry, gastronomy and key hospitality players are showcased.

The competition that gives way to the budding culinary talents of the region, is now celebrating its 16th anniversary. This year, Hospitality Salon Culinaire features many competitions and challenges such as the army chef competition, cooking competitions, the pastry challenge, the best sandwich challenge and the best burger challenge.The Junior Chef Competition featured Lebanon’s talented hospitality students, from various hotel management schools and other universities in a cook off, trying to please top chef judges.

In its 10th edition this year, the National Extra Virgin Olive Oil Contest at HORECA returned to please cravings of the green gold.
Local and international olive tasting experts and olive oil assessment specialists armed with apples, bread and water supervised the contest and selected the winners.
No one likes a messy room. Tidiness is something that a guest at a hotel takes for granted, but it is one of the keystones of excellent service. For the first time this year, professional housekeepers and hotel management students made the perfect bed in the ultimate Bed Making Competition.

Knowing and anticipating a client’s wishes by going the extra mile, surprising them with thoughtful and creative service, is a feat that only a few can master.
Service is the key to the hospitality industry and HORECA considers it its responsibility to highlight that aspect of the business. Over 20 waiters showcased their talent and knowledge of service techniques at The Art of Service Competition.
For its second year running at HORECA, Lebanon’s most skilled baristas prepared their best coffee cups in an hours-long competition that ended with one, snatching the title: Lebanon’s Best Barista!

Bartenders are the chefs behind every cocktail. Over thirty bartenders compete for the title of Best Lebanese Bartender, rewarding many of the young and experienced talents that took part in this year’s challenge.
Lebanon and wine making is an age-old story. Wine at HORECA is, as well, another long standing feature.
Hosted by a panel of three international wine experts, this year’s wine and beverage lab was a toast to the Lebanese wine industry.

NESTLé profESSioNaL chEf circLE bruNchNestlé welcomed 150 chefs, Salon Culinaire judges and HORECA participants for a charming meet and greet at Eau de Vie restaurant in the Phoenicia Hotel Beirut. Guests enjoyed an appetizing buffet inspired by traditional Lebanese cuisine and prepared with Nestlé Professional products.
aNNuaL hoSpiTaLiTy forumA series of conferences were held during the four days of HORECA1. Under the auspices of H.E. Minister of Tourism, Mr. Michel Pharaon, the MedDiet Project – Mediterranean Diet and enhancement of traditional foodstuff – financed by the European Union through the ENPI CBC MED Program organized an International Capitalisation event in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Beirut and Mount Lebanon, the Association of the Mediterranean Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Hospitality Services. The event provided valuable insight about the Mediterranean Diet and the New MedDiet Quality Label for Restaurant. 2. The Syndicate of Lebanese Food industries organized the National Food Industry Day in the presence of H.E.Minister of Industry, H.E. Dr. Hussein Al-Hajj Hassan, H.E. Minister of Health Wael Abou Faour, H.E. Minister of Agriculture Mr. Akram Chehayeb, Dr. Ali Berro as a representative of the Ministry of Economy H.E. Dr. Alain Hakim, Dr. Fady Gemayel, President of the Association of the Lebanese industries, Mr. Georges Nasrawi Honorary President of the Syndicate of the Lebanese Food Industries, Mr. Mounir Bsat President of the Syndicate of the Lebanese Food Industries.

Guillaume Gomez, Meilleur Ouvrier de France and Ambassador of the French Gastronomy animated the first conference under the theme “Gastrono-Diplomatie” at Campus Esa, Ecole Superieure des Aaffaires in Beirut. As the Elysée Chef, Gomez was the best choice to speak about the existing connections between gastronomy and diplomacy.

aTELiEr GourmaND chairmaNiaMEREF presented the Atelier Gourmand with a fusion of Lebanese and French products prepared by a selection of the best French chefs working in Lebanon. The stand attracted fun and food lovers from around the world.
For the 3rd year Chairmania gathered 12 top furniture designers in Lebanon to create new concept chairs around the theme “Bar Chair”; Chairmania was a chance for those in the hospitality industry to get a taste of the latest designs available.
DESiGN fLoraL SymphoNiESParty 3al Tawlet, the brainchild of Kamal Mouzawak, founder of Souk el Tayeb, and highly acclaimed graphic designer Rana Salam, was unveiled. The installation aims to showcase one of Souk el Tayeb’s best known projects, Tawlet, the farmer’s kitchen and social business, in a fresh light.
“Fairytale wedding” arrangements are a statement of creativity at its best. Floral designs made by prestigious florists in Lebanon were on display for wedding receptions or hotel/ restaurant decoration.
