In today’s gospel, the Kingdom and Kingship of Jesus are
set in the countercultural context of the cross. As startling as
this is, it may be a good shot of realism for those of us who
struggle through life. The King we celebrate today bears
little semblance to our royal stereotypes. He knew almost no
glory in his life, and his Kingdom was hard earned through
suffering and death. This is the kind of king we can approach
with con(idence, for he knows our pain and our need for
forgiveness.
We pray with Christ, the suffering King, for the suffering
people of the world.
For the church: that it may be a viable witness to Christ as
the suffering King we pray,
For those who suffer to bring about God’s reign on earth: for
martyrs, prophets and advocates for peace and justice…we
pray,
For those across the world who do not yet know peace or
justice, especially refugees…we pray,
For a smooth political transition that ensures national unity
and the ability to work together for the common good…we
pray,
During this Thanksgiving Week, we ask for grateful hearts to
share our abundance with those in need…we pray,
For those who provide the food we enjoy during this holiday,
especially for farmers and those who work in the food
industry…we pray,
For the poor and hungry among us; for the sick and dying;
and for those who have died we pray,
PRAYER: God of the powerless: You gave us your son to
usher in a new reign of peace and justice. Jesus has shown us
that this Kingdom is inhabited by those whose only power is
love. We pray for the courage to live in and strengthen this
Kingdom, meant for all. In his holy and powerful name, we
pray. Amen.

HOLY FAMILY PARISH JESUS CHRIST KING OF THE UNIVERSE

HOLY FAMILY PARISH JESUS CHRIST KING OF THE UNIVERSE
On the 1st Sunday of Advent you will find the Holy Family Giving Tree. On the tree there will be tags; on the back of each tag is the item needed. Some of these items will be toys or clothes and may be wrapped and placed under the tree by the 3rd Sunday of Advent, December 14th & 15th. Be sure to use ONE piece of tape over the yarn so we do not have to re-wrap again. There are also some tags asking for donations toward fuel, electricity and food. These donations may be placed in an envelope, with the tag taped on top, and placed in the basket during the weekly offertory collection.
These offerings will be given at the Christmas Season and throughout the winter months to those parishioners who are in need and seek the help and assistance of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. If you wish to purchase a Gift Certificate for Food at a local mar-ket you may do so, or you are welcome to share a cash donation if you prefer. Any gift given will be most appreciated.
Please have gifts in on time, because our wonderful workers need time for their families too. Tags have to be removed and the child’s name put on in time for the holiday. It is our hope and our belief that your Christmas will be made brighter through giving to others so that they will know and experi-ence the joy and the love of that first Christmas Day, long, long ago.
