THE EXTENT OF THE PROBLEM• 30% of the global population

is infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis

• 8 million people suffer from Tuberculosis each year – 95% of the cases in developing countries

• Mainly in the 22 HB TB countries (including Philippines – rated number 9 globally)

• Approximately 2 million people die of Tuberculosis every year

• 5,000 people die daily from TB (1,000 per day in the Western Pacific Region, 75 per day in the Philippines)

• 12% of TB cases are co-infected with HIV
