CAFÈ COMETABest place to start the day off right with breakfast (or lunch, if you slept in). Or just pop in for a cup of coffee and an amazing piece of pie.
PLAÇA DE CATALUNYAThis lively square is the beating heart of Barcelona, the spot that geographically separates (or brings together) the districts of Ciutat Vella and the Eixample. Close to important avenues and city attractions, it’s an ideal location for meeting and gathering with friends.
POBLE ESPANYOLWander through an open-air museum that celebrates the best architectural highlights of Spain! The town was “constructed” by recreating 117 buildings to scale from various Spanish regions. Enjoy art, architecture, local handicrafts, live concerts or just a peaceful stroll.
FEDERAL CAFÉOpen all day long, this laid-back 3-story corner spot offers great breakfast and brunch, as well as a simple but excellent international menu prepared with local produce. If you can score a seat, the rooftop terrace is a must.
MONTJUIC CASTLEThis forbidding brick fortress at the topof Montjuïc hill is brimming with history, but perhaps the best reason to visit Montjuïc Castle is for the breathtaking views of the port, city and true blue Mediterranean.
SALA APOLO One of Barcelona’s most popular nightclubs and music venues, with a crazy good line-up (seriously, look it up). Any time of week you want to party, this is the place to go for live music and DJ sets.
LAS ARENASA former bull-ring turned shopping center (yes, really) with six floors of shopping fun and entertainment. You’ll find 115 stores, a fitness centre, a cinema with 12 screens, an event hall, several bars and restaurants. What more do you need?
FIRA BARCELONA MONTJUÏCOne of Europe’s most important trade fair venues and exhibition space, the avante-agarde Fira Barcelona has held thousands of events and conferences since 1932.It’s without a doubt an impressive Barcelona institution.
MAREMAGNUMThe Maremagnum is one of the city’s largest centers for shopping, dining and entertainment. As an added perk, to get there you have to cross a beautiful floating wooden bridge. Oh, and it is also open 365 days per year, even on Sundays. That’s a big deal.
BELLA NAPOLI Italian food made by real Italians in the kitchen! If you’re looking for a local and trustworthy Italian spot, this is your go-to place for tasty antipasti, pasta dishes and excellent pizzas, Moretti beer and Spanish/ Italian wine.
EL MOLINO Otherwise known as Barcelona’s Moulin Rouge. This iconic building has been around since 1898 and is one of the best-known burlesque theaters in Europe. Fun for a night out (but maybe not when your parents are in town).
MNAC PALAU NACIONALThis neo-baroque palace is absolutely stunning to look at. But of course, it’s what’s on the inside that matters most. The museum exhibits more than 260,000 works, making it the largestand most important collection of Catalan visual arts.
LA TASQUETA DE BLAI Pinchos in the heart of Poble Sec! Eat as many as you like and pay according to the amount of toothpicks you accumulated on your plate. If you’re on the tapas bar crawl, this is a perfect stop for a few beers and great food to line your stomach before you head to the next stop.
DIAOpened 365 days per year. Great for supermarket staples and dry goods, smaller than your average supermarket but a good option for stocking up during the week.
BAR CALDERS The draught beer flows freely and there’s a selection of tapas that will send shivers of pleasure down your spine, but the best thing to try here is the vermouth. Bonus: the lively outdoor terrace is one of the district’s best kept secrets.
