Kick tolerance EMW (zero influx model) is maximum safely controllable bottomhole formation fluid pressure withpresent mud weight. If the well is closed upon encountering bottomhole formation fluid pressures higher thanKick Tolerance EMW, the weakest point at 0m TVD will fracture, initiating uncontrolled underground blowout.

Hole & pipe profiles1 Enter hole diameters and hole sections lengths in <HOLE> table. You can choose whatever name you want for individual hole sections. The last section is considered as open hole.2 Enter pipe diameters and pipe sections lengths in <PIPE> table. You can choose whatever name you want for individual pipe sections. The first section is considered as drill pipes.
Include "BHA" or "bha" word/string somewhere within pipe name string to use "Smart BHA tracking" that will tell to program where is the top of the BHA for further calc/display.In case that there is no BHA word/string within pipes names program will assume that the first pipe is drill pipe and the rest is BHA.
3 <Auto Depth> check box activates routine which analyze pipe and hole lengths and adjust last hole sect.(open hole) and first pipe sect.(drill pipes) to match <current hole depth>.<Auto Depth> routine (if activated) will start if cursor is moved outside of <HOLE> table.
4 Switch off <Auto Depth> and change pipe length to activate "Trip Mode". Turn on <Auto Depth> to go into "Drilling Mode" (same pipe and hole length).5 Switch off <Surveys based TVD calculation> if you want to specify current TVD manually. Hole path will then be linear between surface and specified manual current TVD.6 <Stand Length> field is used for stand/pipe displacement calculation.7 See Excel status_bar for further instructions or messages.
Surveys1 Enter survey MD, inclination and azimuth results in surveys table. Start from the first survey (not from surface which is already taken into account).2 Well 3D chart/profile can have realistic 1:1 horizontal ratio, exaggerated horizontal ratio (to fully fill the chart for best veiw), and fully manual horizontal ratio, controlled from drop_list below chart.3 BHA and bit can additionally be displayed on chart/profile (convenient for tripping or stuck pipe). Use word BHA within pipe names to specify top of the BHA.3 Maximum 200 surveys are available.4 Delete all surveys to make vertical well.5 Surveys can be calculated using "Minimum curvature method" or "Trigonometric average method".
Pump data1 Chose <Triplex> or <Duplex> pump type, enter pumps cylinder dimensions and pump efficiency.2 Use <Volume correction> to add additional volume and extent annular circulation (B/U time).
Mud data1 Use fann viscometer results to describe mud viscosity. Use different fann speeds for fast or slow pump rates to describe viscosity more accurately.2 Three hydraulics models are available: Bingham hyd, Power Law hyd and Modified Power Law hydraulics.3 Bingham and Power Law hydraulics require 2 fann viscometer results, and Modified Power Law requires 2+1 fann viscometer results.4 ECD/pressures graph can be used vs. Measured Depth or TVD.
Bit data1 Use either <bit nozzles> or <TFA> input.
Report1 Report sheet is open (not protected) and you might rearrange it to fit your needs (using available fields).2 <Pressures losses summary> table contains 2 input fields: MWD/MM (pressure loss) and Surface (pressure loss) which should be filled manually.3 ECD/pressures graph can be used vs Measured Depth or TVD which is controlled from <Mud data> sheet.
Kick Tol. (kick tolerance zero influx model)1 If you chose <automatic shoe TVD (weakest point at shoe)> program will find shoe TVD and set shoe as weakest point in the hole with EMW Gfrac value from input table.
Volumetric Kick Tol (worst case scenario volumetric kick tolerance model)1 Basically 3 choices are available (each with 5 completely independent value/result):
completely manual input of expected (FBG) formation pressures/balance gradients (tip: keep the values between current mud weight and "zero influx model kick tolerance EMW"),"auto FBG full span" actually calculates complete range of expected formation pressure gradients from current mud weight to "zero influx model kick tolerance" (no volume available),"auto FBG chart best fit" displays the very worst case with formation balance gradients close to zero influx model kick tolerance to display full range of influx densities.
2 Results table displays Volumetric kick tolerance for gas influx (2ppg downhole density).3 Volumetric Kick Tol sheet doesn’t work if trip mode is activated.
Hole cleaning1 Use <use corrected average open hole diameter> option if you want to get more realistic results according with additional borehole volume (pump data sheet).
Swab&Surge1 Three hydraulics models are available: Bingham hyd, Power Law hyd and Modified Power Law hydraulics.2 Use input table to set chart/calculation boundaries3 Surge and Swab pressures are automatically calculated for 5 depths (from current hole depth to surface) to show differences whilst tripping.
Kick&Kill1 Fill the table with available SCR's and select desired SCR with drop lists which will be displayed in bold letters (only one SCR is used during calculation)2 Use SIDPP and SICP to calculate kill mud weight (mud weight to balance new pressures). This calculation works even whilst tripping.3 Influx volume is optional parameter and can be used to estimate influx density4 Surface kill line friction is optional parameter and is simply used as addition (or safety margin) during Kill procedure
Open Report1 Use active charts to make your own reports.
2 Dont delete charts that you don’t need. Just put them aside or outside printable area since you might need them in future.3 Connect to other sheets automatically with your active tables.
