Context and activities

Pupils use the nursery rhyme Hickory, Dickory, Dock as the basis for the lesson. The rhyme is read from a book of nursery rhymes and then a version of the rhyme on youtube is shown to the class.

Children work in pairs to practice building sentences using knowledge of capital letters, full stops and phonetics to help them get the words in the correct order.

Pupils then put the sentences in the correct order to make the rhyme. Pupils have the opportunity to say and to sing the nursery rhyme. Children make finger mice for a Hickory, Dickory, Dock display and take

part in painting the clock. Pupils have the opportunity to continue the rhyme making their own verses

following the pattern and structure of the original. Pupils have the opportunity to move in response to the music. Pupils use computer program to draw pictures to illustrate rhyme.
