A peninsulaof land, a series of islands and adjacent waters inLake Winnipeg combine to form this unique park.
Visit beautiful Hecla Provincial Park and discoveran intriguing mosaic of spirits. The maritimeflavour of the island, combined with the heritagesof Icelandic, Anishinabe and Ukrainian cultures,may inspire you to visit the Hecla Island HeritageHome Museum or other historic sites. Along theshoreline’s winding scenic drive, stop by the turnof the century fishing village. Restored buildingsinclude a church, community hall, 1920s school,an Icelandic home and a village store, still inoperation. Black Island protects several ceremonialsites formerly used by Anishinabe people. Thesedestinations are set in a variety of landscapesranging from coniferous and mixed forest,limestone cliffs, silica sand beaches and marshes.
Interpretive programs provide a betterunderstanding and appreciation of the park, howthe land was created, the wildlife that lives on itand how it is managed. Share the excitement of
hearing wolves answer an interpreter's call orwatch as your children create nature crafts in theHecla Village School.
At Grassy Narrows Marsh, climb the wildlifeviewing tower or spy through the marshlandspotting scope to see wetland birds like the greatblue heron and yellow-headed blackbird. Fish foryour supper or enjoy activities at the playgrounds,tennis courts, beach, picnic areas, boat dock andmarina with boat rentals.
Championship golf awaits at one of Manitoba’smost famous 18 hole golf courses. From yourpanoramic view on the hiking and bicycle trails,catch a glimpse of moose, wolves or bald eagles.
The annual commercial fishing demonstrationand fish fry is popular with park visitors. Hecla’sEagle Fest is a weekend filled with an explorationof the Bald Eagle’s habits and haunts. For a uniqueovernight experience stay at the Solmundon GestaHús (Icelandic for guest house) a bed and breakfastoverlooking Lake Winnipeg.

Campground Tips• Be sure matches are extinguished.
Break them in half beforediscarding.
• Build no fires except in adesignated firepit or use a campstove. Before leaving make sureyour fire is completely out.
• Be careful with your cigarettes,cigars and pipe ashes. Crush themthoroughly before discarding.Never toss them from a vehicle.
• Please! Do not litter.
• Be sensitive to wildlife. Bears canbe dangerous and should not befed. Food must be stored awayfrom your campsite, preferablyin a locked vehicle, to avoidattracting hungry animals. Do notstore food in your tent.
• Warm clothing is needed forcool nights.
• The use of insect repellent will addto your comfort.
• Learn to recognize and avoidpoisonous plants such as poisonivy.
• In case of injury or illness contacta Campground Attendant or ParkPatrol Officer. They can assist youto reach medical help.
• Canoeists and hikers travelling inbackcountry areas should advisea friend of their intendeddestination and anticipated lengthof trip.
• Backcountry camping is onlyallowed at designated campsites.
