of foil to perform the most spectacular feats. An ideal diaphragm should combine

high compliance around the perimeter with a pistonlike motion in the center.

The patented AKG Varimotion diaphragm does exactly that. It is thicker in the center

than around its perimeter, so it moves like a piston and is immune to partial oscil-
