"Hazing is prohibited and will not be tolerated. No Marine or Service member attached to a Marine command, including Marine Detachments, may engage in hazing or consent to acts

of hazing being committed upon them.”

Hazing & Discrimination Conduct by one military member to another, regardless of Service

or rank, that causes suffering or exposure to an activity which is cruel, abusive, humiliating, oppressive, demeaning, or harmful. Soliciting or coercing another to perpetrate any such activity is also considered hazing.

Includes but not limited to:

• Any form of initiation or congratulatory act that involves physically striking another to inflict pain.• Verbally berating another.• Encouraging another to excessively consume alcohol.• Encouraging another to engage in illegal, harmful, demeaning or dangerous acts. Soliciting or coercing another to engage in hazing. • Consent by the subject is not a defense.

Does not include:

• Command-authorized or operational activities• Requisite training to prepare for such missions and operations• Administrative corrective measures• Extra Military Instruction• Athletic events• Command authorized physical training• Recruit depot incentive training• Similar activities authorized by the chain of command

Hazing & Discrimination

No Marine, Service member, commander or individual in supervisory position may engage, condone or ignore hazing practices.

Responsibility of every Marine to ensure hazing does not occur in any form at any level.

Hazing is a leadership and warfighting issue?Mutual respect and dignity for all Service members.Violations are punitive in nature.
