• Some animals of Guatemala include: the Maya mouse, Guatemalan brown bat, deer mouse, and the quetzal.

• Some plants include many orchids, palm, avocado and cacti. Some trees would be chicle, moringa, and rose apple trees.

Crops and Climate

• Some crops include : coffee, (their main crop) wheat, rice, corn, sugarcane, cotton, and bananas.

• The main climate is tropical. The tropical climate makes it warm and sunny so people want to live there.

Language and Population

• The main language is Spanish.

• The population of Guatemala is 14,026,947.

• Petroleum, nickel, rare woods, fish, and chicle.

• Some land forms would be 32 volcanoes, lowlands, and highlands. Volcanoes effect daily life an are important because half of the 32 still erupt. Lowlands and highlands are important because of their climate

• The capital is Mexico city.

Attractions

• Zoos and nature reserves: see animals and plants. ancient ruins: see old civilizations. kayak trips, and hiking are made for fun. These are a few of the attractions found in Guatemala.

• Some industries of Guatemala would be sugar, textiles, clothing, furniture, chemicals, petroleum, metals, rubber, and tourism.

• Some agriculture would be farming and mining essential oils.

• A few forms of transportation would be cars, bikes, foot, busses and shuttles.

• Some communication methods would be radio, television, mail, telephone, and computers.

• At the time not many people are coming into Guatemala, most of them are going out.

Important People and History

• An Important person to Guatemala would be Pedro de Alvarado who conquered the Maya in the year of 1524.

• In the year 18,000 B.C, the first human settlers arrived in Guatemala. Guatemala gained it’s freedom as part of the Mexican empire in the year 1821.

Major Cities and Economy

• Some major cities include Coban, Tikal, and El Mirador

• Unfair income distribution has put 29% off Guatemala’s population below the poverty line.

Migration

• After Guatemala’s long civil war many refugees came to the U.S. Many people in Guatemala move to Mexico.

• Mesitizo, European, K’iche, Kaqchikel, Mam, Q’eqchi, Other Mayan, indigenous non Mayan, Other. (2001 Census)

• Guatemala is divided by the Caribbean sea the Pacific ocean, Belize, Honduras, and El Savador.

• Locals selling mangos from wheelbarrows.

• Hand-made ice cream sold in mobile carts.

• Festivals/Carnivals; ie., Santa Semana Festival lasts 5 days in Guatemala City.
