Happy Chinese and Vietnamese (Tết) New Year
Many Australian families will be
celebrating the Lunar New Year from
February 19 this year.
In the Chinese Zodiac Calendar, 2015 is the
Year of the Goat or Sheep. The Goat is the
sign for people born in the years 1955, 1967,
1979, 1991, 2003, 2015 and 2027.
People born under the sign of the goat are
said to be kind, artistic, compassionate,
loving, gentle and shy.
Lunar New Year Celebrations can include:
Lion dances
Family gatherings and special food like
Sticky Rice Cake and Dumplings
Music, dancing and colourful costumes
Receiving red envelopes with money from elders
Vibrant displays of red lanterns and loud crackers to scare
away the mythical beast called Nian
Tết Nguyên Đán or Vietnamese New Year is the most
important celebration in Vietnamese culture. In south-
west Sydney the New Year is being celebrated in
Cabramatta on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd
February, with a festival in Freedom Plaza.

Amazing Facts about Goats Goats are social (friendly) animals that are
closely related to sheep.
They can live for up to 15 years. They
communicate with each other by bleating.
Baby goats are called ‘kids’ and female goats
are called ‘Nannies’.
Kids recognise their mother’s special bleating from birth. Mothers
will often call to their kids to ensure they stay close-by.
Goats are smart, curious animals, although they’ll nibble on just
about anything including clothes on the washing line. They love to
explore and if kept as a pet they often get up to mischief.
Goats have excellent coordination. That is why they can live on
steep mountains and can even climb
trees.
Goats can see well in the dark.
Goats have their very own, very funny
video game called Goat Simulator.
Goats provide people with milk, wool or mohair, and meat.
A Goatee refers to a style of beard on a man’s
chin, so named because of the similarity to a goat's
face. This is Johnny Depp with goatee. Do you think
he looks like a goat?
How many eggs
were cracked
into this bowl?

Dion’s Pilgrimage
Last September, Dion Ventura (of Vitality House)
took a pilgrimage with his Mum and Dad to Italy
and the Holy Lands - Israel, Palestine and Lebanon.
A pilgrimage is a special type of trip that involves
visiting places that are sacred and special to the
traveller.
For Dion’s family their pilgrimage included a
General Audience with Pope Francis (file photo
top). The photo (right) is of Dion and his Mum and
Dad after the general audience with the Pope in St
Peters Square in Vatican City, Rome.
One of the highlights of the Ventura’s pilgrimage
was their visit to the Franciscan Church of Cana in
Jerusalem. Dion’s Mum and Dad renewed their
marriage vows to celebrate their 30th Wedding
Anniversary. The photo (below) is taken inside the
church following the renewal of their vows.
The town of Cana is a special place. In the Bible it is
celebrated as the place of Jesus’ first miracle
(Bible: John 2). During a wedding feast attended by
Jesus and his Mother, the wine ran out. At the
urging of his Mother, Jesus turned six large jars of
water into wine for all the guests to share.
Dion said he enjoyed the trip. He
especially enjoyed eating pasta in Italy.
The plane trips though were very long.
Thank you, Dion and Mr and Mrs Ventura, for sending through these fabulous photos and sharing
memories of your very special trip.
Lauren’s Summer Holiday
Hi my name is Lauren (from Chrysalis). In the holiday Mum and
Dad took me to Queensland. I met new friends there, named
Elena and John and there kidi. I went to the pool to sunbake and
have a cocktail. My Mum bought me new clothes there and we
went out for dinner. Mum and Dad buy me breakfast in bed. I
played on my iPad, and watched Foxtel at the hotel. I got a new
haircut and got back on 22 January.
… All of July I’m taking off to England. My Cousin has a baby.
