RegisteringintheCambridgeLMSTheCambridgeLMShastwolevelsofaccessforteachers:Teacher,andTeacherAdministrator.Thedifferencesareasfollows:

• Teacher.ATeacherintheLMSmustbeaddedtoaclassbyaninstitutionalClientAdministrator.AsaTeacheryoucanseetheperformanceofthestudentsinyourclasses,butyoucannotseeanyotherclassesandyoucannotcreatenewclasses.Also,youarenotabletoadministerthestudentsinyourclasses,e.g.youcan’tenrolorunenrollstudents–onlyyourClientAdministratorcandothis.

• TeacherAdmin.AsaTeacherAdminyoucancreateyourownclassesandmanagestudentsinyourclasses,e.g.enrolandunenrollstudents.However,youcan’tadministertheclassesofanyotherteachers.

DependingonwhetheryouwouldliketoregisterasaTeacheroraTeacherAdminpleasefollowtherelevantinstructionsbelow.

RegisteringintheCambridgeLMSasaTeacherIfyoudon’thaveausernameandpasswordfortheCambridgeLMSpleaseregister.ToregisterintheCambridgeLMSpleasegotothewebsiteaddressinyourbook(forexamplewww.cambridgelms.org/main)

1. SelecttheRegistertab:

2. Inthefirstfieldselect“IamaTeacher”.Completethefieldsintheboxthatappears:Chooseausernamethatyouwouldliketouse.IfsomebodyelseisalreadyusingthatusernametheLMSwillsuggestadifferentone,oryoucanchooseanotheroneinthenextstep.

Onceyouhaveenteredyourdetails,pullthekeyiconontothelockiconandselectRegister.YouwillnowbeintheLMS:

Younowneedtojoinyourschool.AskyourClientAdministratorforyourSchoolCode,thenselectJoinaSchool:

EntertheschoolcodeandselectJoinaSchool:

YouwillthenjoinyourschoolandyourClientAdministratorcanaddyoutoclasses.

RegisteringintheCambridgeLMSasaTeacherAdminIfyourinstitutionhasaClientAdministratorpleasefollowtheinstructionsinthelastsection;yourClientAdministratorcanthengiveyouTeacherAdminstatus.IfyourinstitutiondoesnothaveaClientAdministratorpleasefollowthesesteps.

5. Nextchoosealeveloftheproductyouareusing.Ifyouusemorethanoneleveland/ordifferentvarietiesofonelevelchooseonelevelfirstandyouwillbeabletoaddmorevariationsinthenextsteps.

Onceyouhavechosenalevelyoumayhavemoreoptionsavailabledependingontheproduct:

Selectasmanyoptions/variationsasyouneedandselectAdd.Youwillthenseethefollowingwindow:

Thefirstwindowdisplaysadditionaloptionsavailablewhichyoucanaddifyouneedto;thesecondwindowdisplaysoptionsyouhavealreadychosen.Youcanremoveanyoftheseifyoudecideyoudon’tneedthemafterall.Toaddfurtherlevels,nowchangethe“ProductLevel”fieldandrepeattheprocessaboveofadding/removingindividualoptions.Onceyouhaveaddedalltheproductsyouneeddragthekeyiconoverthelock,andselectRegister.Youwillnowseethefollowingalert:

Checkyoure-mailsandselectthelinkinthee-mailyouhavereceivedfromtheCambridgeLMS.OnceyouhaveselectedthelinkyouwillhaveTeacherAdminaccesstotheLMSandyouwillseethefollowingwhenloggedintotheLMS:

CreatingClassGroups(TeacherAdminonly)BeforeyoucreateclassesyouneedtocreateatleastoneClassGroup.ClassGroupsarelikefoldersonyourcomputerandallowyoutoorganiseyourclasses.YoumaywanttogiveyourGroupsnamessuchas“Semester1”,“Semester2”etc,ortheyear,orlevel–thisisuptoyou.TocreateaClassGroupselecttheMyAdmintabinthetopnavigationbar.ThenselectManageClassGroupsandthenCreateGroup:

GivetheGroupaname,chooseaGroupLanguageifdesired,andselectSave.

CreatingaClass(TeacherAdminonly)AsaTeacherAdminyouhavetheabilitytosetupclasses.Pleasefollowtheseinstructionstosetupaclassandenrolstudents.

FirstyouneedtocreateatleastoneClassGroup–seethesectionCreatingClassGroupsandfollowtheinstructionsthere.Therearetwowaysofcreatingclasses–eitherfromtheMyTeachingortheMyAdminsection:

1) OnyourMyTeachingpageselectCreateClassnexttotherelevantproductandlevel.In

thisexamplewewillsetupaclassforCambridgeEnglishEmpowerB1+intermediatewithoutOnlineWorkbook:

2) ThiswilltakeyoutotheMyAdminsection.Here,choosetherelevantproductandlevel

fromtheMasterCoursedrop-downmenu:

YoucanenteraClassCodeorleavetheClassCodefieldempty,inwhichcasetheCambridgeLMSwillcreatethisforyouautomatically.Givetheclassaname.SelecttheClassGroup,andsetthestartandenddatesfortheclass.ChooseClassBasedScoringifyouthinkyourstudentsareverylikelytoberepeatingcourses.Selectingthisoptionmeansthatifastudentmovesfromoneclasstoanotherone(withthesameproduct)theywillenterthenewclasswithanemptygradebook.IfyoudonotchooseClassBasedScoring,astudent’sgradeswillappearinthegradebookofthenewclass.Ifyoulike,youcanregisterandaddstudentsimmediately.Ifyoudon’twanttodothisnow,youcaneasilydoitlater.Inthisexamplewewilladdstudentslater.OnceyouhavecompletedthefieldsselectSubmit:

3) ApopupwindowwillnowappeartellingyoutheClassCode:

Copythisclasscodeandpasteitintoane-mailtoyourstudents.Theycanthenjointheclassthemselves(seeStudent’sGettingStartedGuide);thismeansyoudon’thavetoenrolthestudentsyourself,savingyoutime.SelectOKandyouwillbebacktoyourMyAdminpage.

AddingStudentstoaClass(TeacherAdminonly)

AddingsinglestudentsStudentscanjoinaclassthemselvesusingtheClassCodefromthepreviousstep.Youcanalsoaddstudentstoaclassyourselfthoughbyfollowingtheseinstructions.1) Toaddausertoaclass,gototheMyAdmintabandselectManageUsers:

2) SelectAddSingleUser.ChoosewhethertheuserisaStudentoraTeacher.Fillintherequiredinformation.YoumustincludetheClassCode.YoumayalsoenteranActivationCodefortheproductyouareusing.Thiswaythestudentwillseeitassoonastheylogin.IfyoupreferforthestudenttoentertheActivationCodefromtheirbookthenleavethisblank.TheCambridgeLMScansendanemailtotheusertotellthemthattheyarepartoftheclass.Youmustchoosewhethertosendtheemailnow,laterornever.

SelectSubmitwhenyouarefinished.

AddingmultiplestudentsAtthebeginningofasemester,youmighthavealotofuserstobringinatthesametime.TheeasiestwaytodothisistoselectAddMultipleUsers.Hereyoucanaddalotofusersandputthemstraightintoclasses.YoushouldcreatetheclassesfirstandtakeanoteoftheClassCodes.IfyouhavealistofActivationCodesyoucanalsoenterthemduringthisprocesssothatthestudentsdon’thavetodothisthemselves.1) GotoMyAdmin>ManagerUsers>AddMultipleUsers:

2) DownloadtheSampleTemplatefromthispage:

Thiswillopena.csvfilewithcolumnsforthefollowingfields:Role(studentorteacher)FirstnameLastnameUsernameEmailaddressIsyourage13orunder(yes/no)DateofbirthClasscodeActivationCodeOneachrowstartingfromrow2enteryourstudents’details.Youdonotneedtoenteranactivationcode.Whenyouhaveenteredallthestudentinformation,saveyourCSVfileonyourcomputerasaWindowsCompatibleCSVfile,thenselectChooseFiletofindit.SelectyourfileandchooseOpen.TheCambridgeLMScansendanemailtotheusertotellthemthattheyarepartoftheclass.Youmustchoosewhethertosendtheemailnow,laterornever.Whenyouhavefinished,selectCheckandUpload:

Ifyoureceiveanerrormessage,selectthemessagetore-openyourspreadsheet.Thereyou’llfindthespecificreasonwhyyourspreadsheetwasnotacceptedbytheCambridgeLMS.Makethenecessarycorrectionsandsavethefilethenuploaditagain.

AddingNewProducts(TeacherAdminonly)WhenyoufirstregisterintheLMSyouneedtoaddatleastoneproduct.However,youmaywanttoaddmoreinordertocreateclassesaroundnewproducts.ToaddanewproductselecttheMyAdmintab,thenManageProductsandAddProducts:

FromtheProductTitlelistselectaproduct.IfnecessarymakefurtherchoicessuchasLevelandProduct.Addanylevelsyouneed,andfinallyselectAddProducts:

Theproductsyouhaveaddedwillnowbeavailabletoyouandyoucancreateclassesforthem.

Viewingthecontentinyourclass

1. GototheMyTeachingpage.FindtheclassyouwanttoaccessandselectContent:

Thiswilltakeyoutothespecificclassandtothecontents.

2. YouwillnowseetheContentpage.Dependingontheclassorproductyouhavechosenyoumayseedifferenttypesofcontent.InthisexampletheproducthasAssessment,OnlineWorkbooksandExtensionactivities.Toexplorethecontentsselectoneachheadingatatime,thenselectthe“Showall”linkonthepage.Thiswilllistalltheunits,activitiesorothercomponentsforyoutoview.

UsingtheLMSTools1. TouseanyoftheLMSTools,logintotheLMSandgototheMyTeachingpage.Find

yourclassandselectClassHomenexttoitsname:

2. OntheClassHomepageyouwillseetheClassToolstab.Selectittoshowthetoolsavailableinthatclass.

Selectthetoolyouwouldliketouse,forexampletheForum.

UsingtheGradebookTheGradebookgivesyouinformationaboutyourstudents’performance–whichactivitieseachstudenthasdone,whatgradestheyhaveearnedandmore.1) ToviewtheGradebookgototheclasshomepageandselecttheGradebooktab:

2) Scrolldownthatpagetoseeawhole-classoverviewofyourstudents,initiallyinScore

view:

Sointhisexample,1studenthasreceivedanaveragescoreof20–39%ontheworktheyhavedone,3studentseachhavereceivedanaveragescoreof40–59%and60–79%,and2studentshavereceivedscoresof80–100%ontheworktheyhavedone.Furtherdownthepage,underStudents’Details,youcanseehowmuchofthematerialsastudenthasdone(e.g.StudentThreehasdone5%ofthecourse)andtheaveragescoreonthoseactivities(54%).3) IfyouselectProgresstheviewchangestogiveyouinformationaboutstudents’

progressratherthantheirscores:

Sointhiscase,16studentshavecompletedbetween0and19%ofthematerials,indicatingthatthisisthebeginningofterm.4) Inbothcases–Scoreview,andProgressview–youcanselectaparticularstudentto

findoutmoreinformationabouttheirstudies.SelectingStudentThreegivesthisview:

NexttoeachUnityouwillseeScoreandProgressinformation.Selecttheunitheadertorevealinformationaboutindividualactivitiesworkedon:

HereyoucanseeScoreandProgressforeachactivity,andalsothenumberofattempts(thenumber1againstayellowcircle).Selecttheicontotherightofeachactivitytogiveyoutheopportunitytocomparestudents’gradesonthatparticularactivity,changeagradethattheLMShasgivenastudent,orleaveastudentacommentonaparticularactivity:
