02 GERMAN TECHNOLOGY: BASIS FOR SUCCESS
SuccessGerman technology: basis for success
The German companies introducing themselves in this brochure supply the most comprehensive and
largest range of the manifold engineering technologies for the cement, lime, chalk and gypsum industry.
Whether single machines or complete plant, standard apparatus or specialist machines, the German
technology suppliers see themselves as system providers developing and providing application-oriented
solutions with and for the customers world-wide. They nurse their projects from the planning stage
to the final turnkey hand-over. This applies for new plants and sub-plants being installed and set into
operation, but also for existing production units to be optimised or for professional dismantling of
plants being no longer in use.
German technology meets customer demands
The international cement, lime and gypsum industry makes high demands: reliability,
efficiency, and maximum availability of machines and plants with the least possible
operation costs. The German technology suppliers do everything to meet these requi-
rements. The traditionally grown understanding of machines and methods of the
sector has been continually extended by the constant urge to innovate and improve.
Today, new technologies for process procedures for the manufacture of cement, lime
and gypsum for example save energy, keep the air clean, conserve resources, help
with land re-vegetation when work is finished and can recycle residues.
German technology secures customer’s competitiveness
The companies’ comprehensive technology know-how has contributed to increasing performance, pro-
ductivity and quality in all areas of cement, lime and gypsum production. This goes equally for the pro-
cess of materials feeding, the production process as such and materials output, handling and packing.
Higher capacity and availability of individual machines and installations ensure that the cement, lime
and gypsum industry remains competitive. With its modern production plants and innovative machines,
the German companies have become innovative leaders in many areas. Customer-oriented solutions,
high standards of quality and qualified personnel, form the basis of this development. Close co-opera-
tions with universities and users and a great deal of experience in international project processing have
also contributed to this standard.
German technology suppliers care for customer’s needs
The trend in the sector is to move strongly away from being a mere manufacturer
to that of a problem solver and service provider. German manufacturers are especi-
ally active abroad. Their export quota in the cement and gypsum plant business
amounts to 90 percent. In major markets world-wide, German companies have
their own branch or representative offices or even production plants. These interna-
tional networks assure customer contact and local content, not only in the course
of negotiations, but also when problems occur, after sales service is needed or it
comes to sourcing of supplies, material or local personnel.

BHS mixers are the
ideal solution for
all kind of mineral
mixes – wet and
dry. There are
many thousands
installations of
BHS-Mixers world-
wide. Among others this is the result of their
reliable design and excellent mixing effect. A
high degree of homogeneity can be achieved
within less than 30 seconds. BHS can offer
appropriate mixers as well for batch as for conti-
nuous processes. Depending on the application
a broad range of machines sizes covers hourly
throughput rates up to 1200 t/h. All BHS Mixers
create a very intensive three-dimensional
motion within the machine, which results into
very short mixing times. Additional benefits are
low wear, energy savings, no particle destruc-
tions, easy maintenance and worldwide service.

For dry mineral mixes like cement blendings or
dry mortar BHS can offer a special range of
batch mixers, which are equipped with a wide
discharge gate to a allow a residue-free empty-
ing. In addition the compact design of the BHS
mixer helps to integrate the machine into any
plant layout.
Crushing Technology
BHS is the specialist for impact crushing, both
with horizontal shaft and with vertical shaft. A
broad range of machine sizes is available. The
crushing tools are optimized for excellent crush-
ing effect and long lifetime. A rugged construc-
tion is a common feature of all BHS machines
and they are all designed for easy maintenance.
Due to their large slewable cover access to the
rotor is no problem.
The BHS Impact Crushers / Mills with horizontal
shaft range from throughput rates of 40 t/h to
900 t/h. The smallest machine has a feed open-
ing of 650x600 and the biggest one of 1800x
2500 mm. Typical applications are primary or
secondary size reduction of limestone, dolomite
or gypsum.
The BHS Rotor Impact Mill is a vertical shaft
impactor, which can be offered in three different
sizes. The crushing effect takes place between
the horseshoe shaped impellers and the anvil
ring. An important application of the Rotor
Impact Mill is the production of high-quality
sand from limestone or dolomite as they are
for instance needed in the dry mortar industry.
The BHS Rotor Centrifugal Crusher is also a verti-
cal shaft impactor, which can be used for all kind
of rock in order to achieve a size reduction or an
upgrading of aggregates. When entering into
the rotor the feed material is highly accelerated.
After that the material impacts the stationary
wall, which can be designed as rock shelf or anvil
ring. Application are sand production, selective
crushing of conglomerate materials, cubical
shaping of aggregates, grinding of quartz etc.
At the factory in Sonthofen BHS is operating a test
centre for crushing and for mixing. Our customers
are invited to perform tests with their own mate-
rial under full scale conditions. These tests give
certainty before taking any investment decision.

Efficient energy utilisation: heavy-duty kilns
Kilns lie at the heart of a cement works. The plant
required for cement clinker production consists of
a rotary kiln, coupled with a raw meal preheater,
calcinatory and a clinker cooler. This is where the
processes take place which convert cement raw
meal into cement clinker. Our rotary kilns therefore
have to deliver impressive performance: CEMAG
manufactures ultra-modern and efficient cement
clinker production plants with a capacity of up to
6,000 tonnes cement clinker per day.
The CEMAG kilns are characterised by high levels
of energy efficiency in terms of heat and electrical
power. The kilns produce cement clinker at a tem-
perature of around 1,400°C. It is transported white
hot from the rotary kiln into the clinker cooler. The

clinker is cooled down to less than 100°C in the coo-
ler, so that it can be transported further for storage
and further processing. The clinker is cooled with
air which heats up during the cooling process and is
partially re-used as combustion air. This recovers
the input heat energy and saves valuable energy.
Flexible reduction: perfect grinding technology
The efficiency of CEMAG's grinding technology is
achieved on the basis of highly developed mecha-
nics, precision manufacturing, and high levels of
precision during assembly. The process stages in our
grinding plant are co-ordinated down to the last
detail to guarantee you very high levels of availabil-
ity, optimum energy consumption and maximum
service lives for all plant components – to help you
conserve resources. Grinding technology innova-
tions such as our own development of the new
grinding concept for the energy-saving grinding
of bulk materials, open the way for tomorrow’s
resource-saving technologies. In our Technikum
research centre, one of the priorities is the further
development of our grinding technology. Pilot
plant at semi-industrial scale with capacities of
up to five tonnes per hour include a turbo mill
for grinding soft to medium-hard materials, as well
as for surface coating and treating with powders
and meals.
Reliable precision: tomorrow’s classifying technology
In the milling cycle, classifiers are the crucial element
defining product quality and the energy-savings
potential of milling plants. CEMAG classifiers are
primarily characterised by their continuous further
development in response to changing classifying
conditions. The highly developed dispersion system
for agglomerating and accreting materials is tech-
nically unique. Thanks to this technology, CEMAG
classifiers get top marks for de-dusting crushed sand
as well as the cooling and drying processes. Special
components guarantee an absolutely “splash coarse
grain-free” product. Highly variable infinite cut
point adjustment is achieved via cage rotor speed,
recirculated air volume and air intake angle.
10 DBT MINERAL PROCESSING GMBH
DBT Mineral Processing
manufactures products
that work on the principle
of linear, obstruction-free,
material flow.
Crushers or Chain
Conveyors – the material
always follows a straight
line, without “corners or
edges”, material flow, both
forward and backwards:
crushing and feeding in a
horizontal flow!
The knowledge gained through decades of
practice-proven use in a wide range of different
applications, coupled with the continuous
refinement of their equipment, has made DBT
the leader and specialist in the Technology of
Horizontal Crushing.
DBT's operation is state-of-the art and on the
cutting edge of today's crushing technology.
Simply described, our horizontal crushers are pri-
mary crushers which are used to crush very coar-
se feed material in preparation for transport to
the secondary crushing process.
The compact and lightweight design combined
with simultaneous high throughput and its
obstruction negating, reversible flow concept,
clearly illustrates the positive differences bet-
ween DBT's Horizontal Crushing Technology ver-
sus the older method used by vertical crushers.
The overall design of horizontal crushers also
allows for quick and inexpensive set-up as it
does not require the installation of expensive
concrete foundations.
All of these factors combined give these units a
distinct advantage in mining and tunneling
applications especially where the crusher must
constantly follow the advancing mining face
and the need for a cost-effective conveyance of
materials must be optimized.
Of course, the horizontal crushers can be also
installed as a stationary primary with no need
for expansive infrastructure constructions. And
when things change in the future, the crusher
still is easy to relocate.

Under such conditions, horizontal crushers allow
for the handling of materials by continuous belt
transport versus the older method of discontinu-
ous transport. The benefit of such a process is
further enhanced due to the fact that horizontal
crushers are flat and can be charged from the
floor. In fact, in some applications, no charge
hopper is needed and a complicated ramp for
crusher charging can be completely eliminated.
The horizontal crusher's obstruction-free materi-
al flow permits the processing of extremely
large feed sizes without the risk of clogging
occurring versus a system which could turn out
to be very labor-intensive and costly. This same
unique feature also works with the processing
of tacky and binding materials.
The integral PLC system monitors and controls
the crusher and conveyor drives and thus
permits unmanned operation of the horizontal
crusher.
Crusher choking is ruled out because, if threate-
ned to become overloaded, reversing the conveyor
will clear the crusher area. This eliminates the
need for time and labor-intensive manual clear-
ing. This unique processing technology has found
a broad range of applications in many fields.
DBT's horizontal crushers for limestone and
gypsum are available in two forms: impact roll
and roll crusher, both often called feeder breaker.
Whereas the heavier impact roll crusher can
crush hard rock, the pick-type roll crusher is
mainly used in softer rock.
• Large feed size - Lower material prep cost
• High production rates
• Installation is inexpensive and quick (no expensive foundations)
• Mobility - Crush next to the quarry wall and move as wall moves
• Lower operating costs:
•• Feed at grade - Minimal ramps - Minimize haulage costs - No rock boxes
• No operator required – PLC control and overload protection
• Handle wet, sticky material without plugging

The limestone/clay mixture has a relatively
high clay content of up to 50%. Therefore, for
material discharge, the crusher is equipped
with a grizzly basket characterized by specific
grizzly bar shape and arrangement. The ma-

18 HAZEMAG & EPR GMBH
HAZEMAG impact crushers enjoying such inno-
vative features as hydraulic impact apron mount-
ings and hydraulic rotor blow bar clamping
systems offer a high degree of reliability and maxi-
mum performance as well as being extremely
user-friendly. HAZEMAG has supplied the cement
industry with some of the world’s largest impac-
tors, with capacities of up to 2,400 tons/hr. Only
HAZEMAG can supply the double-rotor Compound
Crusher which effects primary and secondary crus-
hing in one housing, in other words, it can reduce
run-of-quarry limestone to ball mill feed size in a
single pass. With its modern designs and highest
technology HAZEMAG has set new standards in
crusher construction.
HAZEMAG & EPR GmbH is located in Duelmen /
Germany with about 200 employees working
there. New HAZEMAG companies have been found
in the UK, France and China. Licensees in Australia,
Brazil, Canada, India, Mexico, South Africa, and
USA are responsible for the success of HAZEMAG
and symbolize the world-wide importance of
HAZEMAG crushing and drying technology.
HAZEMAG Crushing plant in Oman
For a cement factory, a large, semi-mobile crus-
hing plant was supplied for the processing of
limestone and marl. The plant was designed to
handle 800 tons/hr quarried feed material contai-
ning lumps of up to 1,200 mm edge length. The
plant is designed around a double-rotor HAZEMAG
Compound Crusher Type AP-CM 2022. Please refer
to the attached illustration.

The tip speeds of the two rotors can be adjusted
individually to meet the required specifications of
the end product, whereby the compound crusher
achieves a very high crushing ratio to meet the
requirements of the feed material for a down-
stream ball mill.
Feeding is effected by a 2.1-metre wide apron con-
veyor with variable hydraulic drive, which ensures
optimum synchronisation of the conveyor speed
with the operational status of the crusher. The
apron conveyor extracts the material from a hop-
per which is charged by wheel loader. The crushed
material is transported from the crusher by a
discharge belt, after which it is transferred by
pivot belt conveyor onto a belt system leading to
the mixing bed. The scope of supply also includes
a dust collecting plant, the complete electrics
from the 6.6 kV supply to the control system, the
Engineering, assembly, erection and commissio-
ning. Steel structures, etc. were fabricated locally
according to HAZEMAG drawings.
HAZEMAG Crushing plant in Iran
This plant for the Abyek Cement Company is just
one example of a considerable number of primary
crushing plants already supplied to the Islamic
Republic of Iran. The cement works in question is
being extended to produce 8,500 tons of clinker
per day. The crushing plant will process two com-
ponents – marl (60%) and limestone (40%). The
plant has been designed to handle a total through-
put of 2,400 tons/hr. The desired product as feed
for the downstream vertical shaft mill is around
90% minus 75 mm or 99.5 % minus 100 mm. The
marl is characterised by a high Si02 content and a
sometimes high H20 content of up to 10%.
Both components are fed by dump truck into
separate hoppers of 400 m3 and 250 m3 capacity
respectively for the marl and limestone. The raw
material is extracted from the hoppers by apron
feeders fitted with caterpillar chains. After the
limestone has been fed onto the marl apron
conveyor, scalping of the fines minus 80 mm is
effected by HAZEMAG roller grate (wobbler). In
this way, sticky material fines by-pass the impact
crusher, increasing the operating safety and at the
same time reducing the necessary design size of
the crusher and the wear rate thereof. The compo-
sition of the marl/limestone mixture is measured
online downstream of the impact crusher. On the
basis of the measuring results, the speed of the
two electric motor-driven apron conveyors is con-
trolled so that the mixture is always in accordance
with the requirements. The crushing of the two
components together in the impact crusher
results in an intensive mixing process which
relieves the downstream mixing bed.
The main plant component is the hydraulically-
controlled impact crusher Type AP-PH 2525, which
has a rotor width of 2,500 mm and a diameter of
2,500 mm and is the second-largest impact crus-
her available. It has an installed power rating of
2,200 kW. Integrated into the hydraulic cylinders
of the crusher is a gap measuring system which
allows the gap settings to be adjusted continually
via the plant control. Servicing and adjustment is
effected by push- button, so that the operation
does not need to be interrupted, guaranteeing a
correspondingly high degree of availability.

component or spare part is needed or a turn-key
solution is planned, designed, installed and com-
missioned or whether an existing factory has to
be upgraded in order to cut costs and improve
production efficiency.
Almost 100 per cent of our business is customised.
In other words, the focus is not on the machines
and components themselves but rather on finding
solutions to the individual problems of our custo-
mers in the mineral processing industry taking into
consideration the grinding plant conditions and
requirements of its single units as well as their
effects on the other aggregates. Even so, the conti-
nuous search for perfect concepts has led to a

qualified Christian Pfeiffer industrial installation
and erection service is available all over the world
for assembly, supervision, and start-up of complete
installations or single mill components.
At Christian Pfeiffer, the company internal develop-
ment goal is total customer satisfaction. This is
achieved with comprehensive services in consul-
ting, research and development, manufacturing,
installation, and after-sales relations.
All early as in 1930, the company patented its first
mill diaphragms, which have remained its most
successful product to this date. Today the 4th gene-
ration of adjustable grinding mill diaphragms is
made available to the market under the CPB trade-
mark.
Unlike the products of other manufacturers, CPB
diaphragms come with rolled steel plates, which
due to their superior wear properties are increa-
singly gaining acceptance as a viable alternative to
cast plates. Featuring technical highlights such as
adjustable flow control system and increased venti-
lation area as well as design that facilitates installa-
tion and maintenance of the wear parts, the 4th
generation of CPB diaphragms enhances both the
quality and efficiency of grinding processes.
All these competitive advantages have made
Christian Pfeiffer the leading supplier of mill dia-
phragms worldwide. The CPB trademark generally
enjoys an excellent acceptance in the international
marketplace, standing for ‘Made in Germany’
quality. Today, Christian Pfeiffer generally acknow-
ledged as producer of the most progressive and
innovative mill diaphragms. This market position is
essentially based on experience gained from the
supply of more than 5,000 diaphragms world-wide.
The separation technology has considerably been
influenced by Christian Pfeiffer Maschinenfabrik.
In the early 1950s the company developed and
designed the Heyd Separator, an air separator which,
due to its high selectivity, essentially contributed
to quality assurance of powdery products.
As the result of more than half a century of exper-
tise, the QDK series - a cage separator of third
generation – was introduced to the market in 1987.
The QDK separator enables mineral raw material
grinding plants to improve the quality of their pro-
ducts and optimise their operations. Due to the
diverse types for throughput, the QDK is designed
for all requirements and flexible when dealing with
material as cement, fly ash, raw meal, gypsum,
quartz sand, or coal. Drying and cooling is done
simultaneously to the separation process. Further-
more, the compact design results in maximum
plant efficiency at minimum space requirements.
More than 500 separators have been sold until
today.
Since 1999, Christian Pfeiffer has implemented a
quality management system in conformity with
DIN EN ISO 9001 for engineering, design/develop-
ment, production and assembly of systems and
components for separator and grinding plants
for minerals. Regular audits are performed to
guarantee the high quality standard which is the
utmost principle of Christian Pfeiffer.

GEBR. PFEIFFER AG have since established them-
selves as expert suppliers of cement grinding
equipment.
Moreover, Pfeiffer mills are also to be found in
power plants, an exclusive licence having been
granted to Hitachi Babcock, entitling them to
manufacture MPS coal mills for coal-fired power
stations.

34 THYSSENKRUPP FÖRDERTECHNIK GMBH
Established in 1921,
ThyssenKrupp Fördertechnik
Ennigerloh is since those
days serving the cement
industry in Germany, in
Europe and all over the
world.
Running the most widest
program of different kind
of crushers, feeders and
screens, TKF is able to offer
any kind of customer-sized
highly economical solutions.
Different quarry concepts are requiringdifferent crushingsystems.
Back in 1956, ThyssenKrupp
has introduced the worlds first
mobile crushing plant, a crawler-
mounted hammer crusher with
a capacity of approx. 250 t/h. Since then capaci-
ties of 5,000 t/h for fully mobile installations on
crawlers, walking pads or tyres and 14,000 t/h for
semi-mobile and stationary crushing plants have
been introduced to the market.
Different materials are requiring different crushers.
Typical applications for the cement industry –
either stationary, mobile or semi-mobile – are
ranging between 500 and up to 2500 t/h of
crushed limestone. The product size required
from the grinding system, is for tube mills
smaller 25 mm and for vertical roller mills
smaller 80 mm. One-stage crushing by hammer
or impact crusher is very common.
ThyssenKrupp is offering for this purpose the
range of MAMMUT® Single-Shaft Hammer
Crushers and TITAN® Double-Shaft Hammer
Crushers. Highly advanced impact crusher
technology is represented by the ThyssenKrupp
IMPACT CR-series. Hydraulically fixed blow bars,
an extremely heavy kind of casted discs and
hydraulically pretensioned and suspended
impact and grinding walls are main features
of this CR-Impact Crusher.
For high-silica type limestone or sticky clay type
limestone, two-stage crushing by ThyssenKrupp
Jaw or Gyratory Crusher and ThyssenKrupp
Roll Crusher or RollSizer might be a suitable
alternative.
As far as for crushers and crusher concepts,
feeding and screening equipment for all capaci-
ties and all different materials are available.

Stackers and reclaimers, pre-blending and homogenizing systems
As suppliers of equipment to the cement
industry since 1905, ThyssenKrupp Rohrbach
(TKF) has equipped more cement plants with
pre-blending / homogenizing systems for lime-
stone, additives and coal than any of its com-
petitors worldwide. Having first developed
the unique circular homogenizing system
early in the 1960s, the TKF design since then
has become the accepted standard of design
excellence whenever space limitation does
not allow for longitudinal blending plant
arrangement.
With more than 100 years of experience in
the design and supply of solid bulk material
handling equipment, TKF is a ‘state-of-the-art’
supplier. The supply programme includes
stackers, all types of reclaimers, combined

WESER ENGINEERING is permanently expanding
its range of products and engineering capacities
and under these aspects established a new
German branch office in Saarlouis in 2001.
This office is staffed with competent and skilled
engineers who, among other disciplines of our
company, are particularly qualified in Raw
Materials Blending Bed Systems for the cement
industry and Scraper Reclaimers.
Longitudinal or circular design, with low
or high blending efficiency are a speciality of
WESER ENGINEERING.
Blending can be achieved by the utilization
of the cone shell, chevron, chevcon, strata or
windrow methods of stacking in association
with the appropriate front face, side or pilgrim
method or reclaiming. The necessary know-how
and experience to determine the most suitable
for a particular application is available within
the WESER ENGINEERING programme.
From planning to realication, typical examples
are as shown:
