• GEO Portal is ESA-FAO response to GEOSS requirement with the following scope: “… define a model web portal system for access to all Earth Observation data, based on existing portals and systems, designed to increase use, quality, and accessibility of existing information, tools, and networks ...”

• GEO Portal selected in 2010 as the unique point of entry to GEOSS, pilot launched in 2007, in operations since 2008

• Gateway to global EO data, information and services that are of interest to the GEOSS user community.

– Developed by ESA in collaboration with FAO– Part of the GEOSS Common Infrastructure

• Based on Open Source components, it can be freely installed and configured at GEO members’ premises

GEO Portal services

• Geospatial Portal Service providing the user interfaces for viewing, discovering data, information and services available in GEOSS.

• Portrayal Viewer Service allowing the display and handling of maps and context information from various sources, e.g. from different GEO Societal Benefit Areas through WMS services.

• Interfaces to Catalogue Services of the GEOSS Clearinghouse, allowing distributed catalogue search in an interoperable manner.

• Access Comprehensive directory of service providers e.g. related to GEO Members and Participating Organizations.

• Retrieval of EO education, training and capacity building resources.
