GUIDE AM) DATE OF IKSPKCTIOU
Mr. C. A. Coutu acted as guide and the inspection for "Discovery" was carried out on July 4, 1956, by the author accompanied by f'r. H. Richard?, Claims Insnector.
KODE PI'1 ACCESS
At the j resent d*t. tf| the only feasible Kiethotl of reaching the claims from 3ault Ste. X.ari',2, is by car to I-lontreal Hiver and then by fjwer launch aJnng the Lake Superior coast to Coldwater River. An additional complication is that during periods of westerly and" north-westerly winds, the exposed shore, and complete lack of harbour facilities, make t.he landing of impossible, '.'hen hi^hv/ay ".o. 11 i ? ron;:

7in thefc^ntral section of claim SSM 424*9.
Two posts were located at a point approxi mately 10 chains K.VI. of a small lake. Tag Ho. l was affixed to one post, and Tag No. 4 to another post, both for claim SSM 42489* The No. l tag is considered to be in the proper loca tion according to data submitted. By compass and pacing these posts are approximately 14 chains north-east of the "Discovery showing". The author, and Claims Inspector Richards, were unable to find fresnly blazed lines for more than a hundred feet or so to the east, west, or south of the above posts.
GENERAL GEOLOGY
The country rock in the immediate vicinity of the "Discovery" is granite gneiss. Basic and diabase dikes were observed on some of the ridges near the trail from the lake, however as the area is largely covered by heavy drift their direction and size was not determined.
THE "DISCOVERY"
A mineralized area in the granite gneiss, 22 feet by 2C feet, contains a considerable amount, of quartz and chalcopyrite. There does not appear to be any evidence of a general strike or dip to this showing. A small gorge, probshly occupied by ai erori^ ^l-tiifc uike, or representing ^ Tctuiu, running approximately N.60OE. is about 20 feet wide and the north side forms a decided scarp about 25 feet high. In the floor of the draw, loose pieces of quartz v/ere observed ever a length of several chains but they all appeared to be barren, The rock of the scarp to the north is a rather massive pinkish granite and may represent a phase of tho granite gneiss or a separate body.

A character sample of the fairly well mineralized quartz was sent for assay and returned a value of 5.42J6 copper.
SUMMARY AND OPINION
The 22 feet by 20 feet "discovery11 does contain chalcopyrite in a quartz gangue. The copper content would be sufficient for ore if the deposit were large enough but present evidence for size is largely negative. In view of long period during which this showing has been known and no extension found to date, it should probably be considered to not qualify as "Valuable Mineral in Place" within the meaning of section l (w) of the Ontario Mining Act.
SPECIAL COMMENT
Other discoveries for claims of the Coutu Bennett group, apparently do not exist in fact. and therefore inspections of them could not be made.
Respectfully submitted,
S. E. YJolfe

These dais* ara situated about 10 ailes north of Agava Harbour and
about three adles inland. The new |17 Highvay will paaa about three nilas
away. The trail is veil travelled for the first half or better. A road ahould
not be difficult.
The shoving strikes east-vest approximately and lias just south of
what seems to be a strong fault in granite with a cliff on the north 75 faet
high and on the south a vertical wall running up from flat ground to about 20 feet
high in about 100 feet.
The showing containing '-he cnoleopyrite is about four feet vida though
the boundaries are not definite* A trench to rook only ten feet or so east of the
shoving across the strike shows very little mineral. To determine whether or not
the shoot continues it would bo necessary to break the surface ami get into the
rock.
This does not look promising.
A grab ran 1,98/6 Gu and two chip 8*r:^leB 10 feet apart ran 0.4951 over
52" and 0.8856 over 30", with negligible gold.

Dear Dr, Hurst:
Re; C, A. Coutu - '.7. G. H. Bennett claims
In view of all the- circumstances, it is suggested by the autho^ that the "Discovery" for the above claims be considered to not qualify as "Valuable Mineral in Place" \*ithin the meaning of section l (w) of the Ontario Mining Act.
If evidence suggesting extensions of the above showing could be produced, then the author believes the above classification should be reversed in the light of this new evidence.

I was not in a position to answer all of your questions before.
You already know the location as I ga-'e you this information in my letter to you of November 7th.
ACCJSS at the present time is just about impos sible because it is necessary to travel part of the way by water. Howe\ -- in the Spring it is a fairly simple matter to drive to the e.id of the road and take a boat. It is about three miles from the shore.
Our client has done some work on the claims but we do not have the particulars of it.
Our client states that there are thrte separate showings, one about 50 feet long and 10 feet wide, one about 50 feet long and one foot wide and one about 50 feet long and 25 feet wide.
Our client has in mind a canh payment ,a further payment of 45^00.00 in six months r ^floafdtfltvonal pay ment of $5000.0C at the end of a arfoafi* a* 1 pation in any Company to be form

Dear Mr. Stroud: Re: Bennett j- Sault
I talked with Mr. Gray over the phone about this matter and if we want to look fat this prospect we should have a definite understanding in writing as to how long we are going to have to look at it. Mr. Gray suggested a specific date and mentioned June 15. I told him I thought we should write Mr. Bennett asking for an option on the terms mentioned giving us time to have a look at the showings and run a few assays, after which we should make the proposed.payment and enter into the proposed option W vc-t -Cl^ \ (
I w ould not offer to pay any specified amount but would suggest only a nominal sum for this preliminary option and s*e what Mr. Bennett replies.
