Genetic testing for breast cancer extended in Scotland

■ From 1 June this year, genetic testing for breastcancer will be extended in Scotland, meaning that therisk estimation level for testing will reduce from thecurrent 20% (i.e. women with a one-in-five chance ofhaving the faulty gene) to 10% (those with a one-in-10chance). "The Scottish Genetics LaboratoryConsortium steering group has already decided toextend the testing in line with the new NICErecommendation", said Scottish Health Secretary, AlexNeil.
