PROJECT PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENTBringing Clarity to the Product and Project Portfolio with the CIM DATABASE Portfolio Navigator

Management of the product and project portfolios is a sign of the

innovation and development strategy within the company. Trans-

parency, clarity and a direct link to the operational development

functions are indispensable. The new Portfolio Navigator is an

intuitive tool for defining portfolios and using them in day-to-day

product development. The link to the maturity levels in the product

lifecycle permits a comprehensive, strategically focused assess-

ment of the portfolio.

» Arranged by business areas, product lines, etc.

» The structure and nomenclature define the framework for all

operational procedures

» Intuitive navigation to specific, current products and projects

» Basis for the ongoing planning and evaluation of the portfolio

“CIM DATABASE’s project management capabilities lie at the heart of our PLM strategy. This ensures the reliability of our processes and guarantees the highest possible level of transparency in our individual projects and throughout the entire portfolio.”Dr. Andreas Burkhardt

PDM Project Manager

KÜSTER Holding

SUPPLY CHAIN COLLABORATION

11

“We develop our plants in larger project teams consisting of design engineers together with employees from outside agencies. The underlying prin-ciple of Workspace Manager is very well suited to collaboration because everyone can work independently and their results can then be merged easily and efficiently.“Volker Haselhorst

Process & IT Manager

MBB Fertigungstechnik

COMPLIANCE MANAGEMENT

13

“Thanks to the materials management facility in CIM DATABASE, we finally have the transparency we need regarding conformity with relevant regulations and our own requirements. In addition, we can quickly and efficiently check and assess our suppliers.”Kathrin Friedrich

PROJECT MANAGEMENTFunctions for Systematic Product Processes

With Project Office, CONTACT is able to offer outstanding 360°

management for the highly collaborative, reliable conduct of pro-

jects on the basis of procedures and methodologies such as APQP,

the V model or SPICE. When it comes to planning functions, Project

Office sets new standards: It permits the simultaneous top-down

and bottom-up planning and monitoring of projects – departures

from planned values are clearly presented and can be resolved on a

case-by-case basis.

» Innovative, synchronized central top-down and distributed

bottom-up planning

» Creation of project libraries and re-use of modules in projects

15

“High status and cost transparency are some of the key advantages of the CONTACT project management solution. We can also very easily implement custom modifications and enhancements thanks to its

excellent configurability.“Peter Sorgatz

Head of Technical Informatics

BASF Polyurethanes

CLAIMS MANAGEMENT

19

“CIM DATABASE enables us to plan and implement technical changes reliably as well as handle all legal consequences. This is essential since missing the deadline for making a claim for damages against a service provider alone could cost us a six or seven-figure sum.”Michael Claus

Chief Information Officer

CONTROLLING & KPISystematic Measurement and Control of Improvements with CIM DATABASE Metrics Framework

To stay ahead of the competition, companies constantly improve

their products and processes. The best way to do this is to use key

performance indicators, balanced scorecards and other statistical

measures. PLM systems and the up-to-date original data they con-

tain are ideal for the indicator-based control and improvement of

development processes. CIM DATABASE 10 provides a comprehen-

sive framework to achieve this.

» Design to x by means of target objectives for product characteris-

tics such as weight, consumption, material composition, etc.

» Project controlling using indicators such as time and cost-efficiency

» Improved PLM performance thanks to process indicators

» Logically centralized definition and maintenance of all relevant

indicators

„For 15 years, I’ve been looking for a software solution that allows project managers to find out how far a project has advanced and where it is currently bogged down at a simple touch of a button. To do this, you must be able to interconnect the data in any way you wish and depict the critical paths. That is exactly what Project Office lets us do.“Lars Dietrich

Head of Technology

Transtec Gotthard (TTG)

22

TIME TO VALUE

23

“Product lifecycle management with CIM DATABASE has made a vital contribution to the 30 to 40 percent reduction in throughput times we have achieved for complex test and assembly systems for the automotive industry.”Harald Kurz

Head of IT

teamtechnik Maschinen- und Anlagen

24

PLM ROI

25

“By combining the experience and development expertise from our Business departments, central IT and CONTACT Software, our versatile software development skills allow us to make the adaptations that are needed quickly and efficiently.”Stefan Denk

Deputy Head of Engineering

ANDRITZ

PROCESS METRICSKPIs for the PLM Process and Balanced Scorecards

Key performance indicators in accordance with VDMA

66412, for instance, are used in manufacturing to evaluate produc-

tion workflows. CIM DATABASE now also uses process-oriented KPIs

to considerably simplify the evaluation of engineering processes,

the benchmarking of PLM installations and the identification of

individuals involved no longer have to depend only on their purely

subjective assessments but can instead rely on facts.

» Support from the Metrics Framework

» Automatic, continuous data mining

» Integrated corrective measures management if targets are not met

» Time series analysis at a freely definable frequency

» Graphical representation in the dashboard

27

“The CIM DATABASE Product Costing gives manufacturers a tool for optimising their cost and revenue management. It significantly improves pricing, provides transparency for cost reduction options and provides a starting point for the decision on whether or not to outsource production.“Dr. Jan Kickstein

Head of Application Development

QUALITY MANAGEMENT

29

“Because we record all the quality issues in a central database, we can analyze them and use the CDB reporting functions to generate reports. In this way, we are able to make our decisions much more quickly.” Christian Pilottek

Head of Technical Systems and Organization
