Session DescriptionEncourage higher order thinking skills in your FSL students by using engaging, rich tasks that rely on "app smashing".

Let your learners’ digital native skillset take them far beyond where you might have gone otherwise for deeper, more impactful learning experiences. Guide gently, be willing to learn, and use teachable moments to build their digital literacy & citizenship.

ObjectiveParticipants will:

● be familiar with the term and definition of App Smashing● recognize how higher order thinking skills are reached

through incorporating this technique in student assignments

● share ideas about specific assignments that encourage app smashing

● become aware of some tools that might be used

What is APP Smashing ?

App SmashingUsing two or more tools (apps) on a device to accomplish one product, rather than staying within the confines of what any particular tool (app) can do on its own.

Origin of App SmashingTerm can be traced back to 2012 to a former History Teacher, now an #edtech instructor & leader.

Showing in depth comprehension of text by applying & making inferences about a character, setting or any other aspects. For example: Design a character’s bedroom, Make an online dating profile, Create a radio broadcast live from the scene of one part of the story. (French, Geography, Media…)
