Footprints in the Sand

One night I dreamed I was walking alongthe beach with my Lord. Many scenesfrom my life flashed across the sky.

In each scene I noticed footprints in thesand. Sometimes there were two sets offootprints, other times there was oneonly.

This bothered me because I noticed thatduring the low periods of my life, when Iwas suffering from anguish, sorrow ordefeat, I could see only one set offootprints, so I said to my Lord,

"You promised me Lord, that if I followedYou, You would walk with me always. ButI have noticed that during the most tryingperiods of my life there has only beenone set of footprints in the sand. Why,when I needed You most, have You notbeen there for me?"

The Lord replied, "My precious child, I'dnever leave you. I have carved you onthe hollow of My hand. The years whenyou have seen only one set of footprints,my child, is when I carried you."
