What happened to School Improvement

How did we become a Focus School?

O Lowest 10% of Title I schools (33 schools)

Title I High Schools with Lower than 60% Graduation Rate

O Beginning 2013-14 school yearO Title I HS with Grad rate below 60%

for 2 consecutive yearsO This is in addition to the above

designation

Subgroups with Proficiency 75% Lower that GAP Group

O Beginning 2013-14 school year O To ensure no subgroup within the GAP group

is ignoredO Subgroup whose combined reading and

math proficiency is 75% lower than GAP Group combined reading and math proficiency for 2 consecutive yearsO Add each subgroup reading and math

Principal and Teacher Evaluations

O Submitted by DistrictsO School specificO Only certain allowable costsO Must be submitted by Nov. 15

O Not formula grants so if not submitted on time there may be no funds left

How is the Focus Status removed?

O A school may apply to exit this designation after one or two years O The school no longer meets the definition of a Focus School. O The school’s GAP Group meets its AMO targets in reading and

math.O Annual monitoring indicates that required interventions are

being faithfully implemented.O For Title I high schools with a graduation rate of less than 60%,

the school have a graduation rate at 70% or above for two consecutive years.

O For schools entering Focus School status through the safeguard, targeted interventions will continue until the difference between the designated ESEA subgroup’s and the GAP Group’s combined reading and math proficiency rate is reduced by half and maintained for two years, in order to show sustainable and continuous improvement.

O A school must demonstrate potential for sustained improvement and growth.
