Grooving Forward!2010 has been a great year! I started a magazine in March, developed a second magazine, both accompanied by corresponding websites, hosted events, contributed to charity, met wonderful people and developed a team to make it all happen! 2011 is going to be an enor-mous year for FM Spotlight and myself. Still expanding, we are adding more team members, launching a smart phone application, and producing an interactive newsletter. With the magazine’s new look will come more community interaction and support on each issue.
As for those curious about the picture, I guess I have to do what it takes to promote FMS! Even if it means dressing as a disco dancer at the FM Stride night NDSU Basketball game halftime show. Happy New Year! Enjoy the mag and I cant wait to show you what we have in store!

The Commander Breezy Point, MN
What music do you cover? “Basically…Hanson to Manson!” Anything from rock, blues, grunge, country, reggae, and back to rock!
What makes people remember your band the most? Whether its picking out the set list or singing along with us on stage, it’s all about the crowd. And of course, the “Social Drink Along!”
Where did your name come from? “Us realizing we are too ugly to ever be on TV.”
What sets Face for Radio aside from the other bands? “No type of music is
out of range. We try and focus on songs people know but aren’t played out. Whether it’s a note for note solo, spot on drum beats, or strong vocals and harmonies, we try and find a good balance of putting our own spin on songs while maintaining the songs originality.”
Face ForRadio
The band Face for Radio is heating up and making some noise in Fargo-Moorhead. FM Spotlight sat down with one of
the most versatile and talented bands in the area for some Q and A. Learn more about FFR and interact with the band at www.fmspotlight.com.

AQWhat is …downtown, baby!?
“…downtown, baby! is the answer to all questions. It’s the premiere
Downtown Image Campaign; a main slogan for Downtown that encompasses
everything Downtown has to offer. You will see commercials airing on WDAY/
WDAZ, window clings on cars and store-fronts, people wearing buttons with the
slogan and more media sources The marketing campaign....
Downtown Fargo is FM Spot-light’s pick of the year as the “Most Valuable Place”. With so many ground breaking events, chang-es, and developments downtown is the place to be. We at FM Spotlight are engaged to help inform Fargo-Moor-head about how much downtown Fargo has to offer. We are going to demish the misperceptions and help you find entertainment, news, and the inside scoop. Drago sat down with Jed Pahan from the Downtown Commu-nity Partnership to get the scoop about what is hot and happening downtown this year.

Cover Story
AQHow far has Downtown come in the last ten years?“Downtown has seen an incredible resurgence in the past decade. The establishment of the Renaissance Zone in 1999 was pivotal in creating new development and set the foun-dation to rebuilding our Downtown. From there, we’ve seen a new infrastructure and streetscape on Broadway. The Main Avenue bridge
built in 2004 has become a trans-portation landmark for Downtown in connecting Fargo and Moorhead. North Dakota State University’s (NDSU) decision to move Downtown after Doug Burgum’s generos-ity was a very important move to the impact of our Downtown “turnaround.” The International Downtown Association award win-ning Quiet Zone was finalized and started in 2008 and set the bar to our progress of Downtown. This is why you don’t hear train whistles Downtown. We’ve also seen a new vibe Downtown with recent openings of restaurants, retail stores, addition of NDSU buildings and a new state of the art library. While the past decade has seen an incredible amount of progress and national awards, there is much to be excited about during the upcom-ing decade.”What excited you most about Downtown in 2011? Fargo Force vs Dubuque January 8
High School Basketball: KX4 Scheels Shootout January 15
Max Fights: Proving Grounds on January 22
What are you thoughts about the Bison’s Loss to Eastern Washington?
Just like the Bison did in most of their wins this season, they relied heavily on the defense to give them field position and even
points. We heard a lot about some calls that didn’t go the Bison’s way, but to be honest, if the Bison had a stronger passing offense, they could
have won big. Their playoff performance should give them lots
of hope for next season. What sporting event in Fargo do you
think people should see and might not know about? If you have not been out to the Roller
Derby, you need to get to one. I did not know what to expect and I didn’t actually know the rules until halfway through the match, but I loved the fast-paced, hard hitting action. The FM Derby Girls do things on skates that I couldn’t do on my own two feet.
In your opinion, what will be the biggest sporting event in Fargo in
January?Well, MMA is more popular now than ever and I don’t see that changing any time soon, that’s why I would say Max Fights: Proving Grounds January 22, at the Hub, will be the biggest event in Fargo this month. What does Fargo-Moorhead need
more of in the sporting world?Personally, I love to bike, and there are not nearly enough bicycle races in Fargo. Along with
serious races, a lot of cities have fun races where riders wear costumes or do scavenger hunts.
