Royal Winter Fair
In November, the Grade 7 and 8
classes of Fisherville went on a
field trip to the Royal Agricultural
Winter Fair. It was an educational,
fun, and exciting trip.
On the trip, there were a variety of
things to do, such as watch the
Super Dog show, the horse show,
and walk through the shopping
area, where we found many differ-
ent stalls. Vendors sold a variety
of things such as, ice cream, cloth-
ing, jewelry, toys and ornaments.
Students also had the opportunity
to ride a mechanical bull. Most
students were unseated very
quickly. I lasted 10 seconds.
Overall, it was a great experience,
and many of the students enjoyed
it. I certainly did!

Students elected a Student Council
Executive which is comprised of
student representatives from every
homeroom class. During an assem-
bly the representatives chosen will
be given the opportunity to speak
to the student body and explain
why they should be selected to
become the President or Vice Pres-
ident of the Student Council.
Student Council leaders have the
opportunity to plan and organize
fun activities at Fisherville. This
will ensure students are given a
voice in decision making as staff
work in partnership with them to
make Fisherville an inclusive envi-
ronment.

Precious Memories - Class 7C
Students created meaningful
art pieces that illustrated var-
ious scenes related to this
period of time. Through po-
etry, song and dance they
conveyed the message of this
solemn occasion very effec-
tively. The band also played
some moving pieces.

On October 19 our class went
to the Cheltenham Retirement
Home. We went there to
make friends with the seniors
and start clubs to get them
more involved within the re-
tirement home.
When we first arrived a staff
member sat us down and went
over all the rules. We each
partnered up with a senior.
We introduced ourselves and
began a conversation based
on the ice breaker questions
we were given by the staff.
The questions were simple,
but enough to get us acquaint-
ed. We all went around in a
circle to share our buddies’
response, slowly but surely
getting to know each other.
All of this happened in
On Friday November 11, 2016
an assembly was held to com-
memorate Remembrance Day.
We would like to thank Ms.
Agouros and Mr. Dobkin for
organizing this event. Students
did an amazing job of recogniz-
ing the contributions of our vet-
erans; those who have given
their life so that we can live in
a democratic society.
Character Counts
Kids, Cops, & Computers
This year our school partici-
pated in the Kids, Cops &
Computers program spon-
sored by Merry Go Round
Children’s Foundation.
Through this program we
have been privileged to have
20 of our grade 7 students
receive brand new laptop
computers.
During this launch students
also registered in the pro-
gram and received infor-
mation about its specific
expectations.
At the program launch, stu-
dents chosen to be recipients
of the computers met with
staff from the foundation as
well as Officer Shari Spivak
and Ms. Agouros will
run the six “Lead and
Learn” sessions students
are required to attend. Dur-
ing these sessions topics
such as, the role of the po-
lice officer, cyber bullying
and internet safety will be
covered.
Our heart felt thanks goes
out to both the Merry Go
Round Foundation and the
Toronto Police Services,
without whose participa-
tion this program would
not be offered.
our first visit.
We will be going there every
month. In the upcoming visits,
we will be joining clubs to in-
teract more with the seniors on
a personal level. We will be
playing board games, doing
crafts, knitting, speaking Rus-
sian & Hebrew with the seniors
and just basically having fun.
7C is excited to go back to the
retirement home and to visit our
buddies!

With a new school year
ahead, we continue to foster
the development of positive
character traits in all stu-
dents. This is a shared re-
sponsibility between home
and school. There is a need
for family, community and
schools to engage coopera-
tively to encourage students'
learning and maturing as
social beings.
Throughout the year, we
will continue to focus on
respect, responsibility, em-
pathy, kindness and caring,
teamwork, fairness, hones-
ty, co-operation, integrity
and perseverance.
We encourage parents to
reinforce these attributes at
home. Every month Fisher-
ville teachers recognize one
student in their class who
best exemplifies one of these
attributes. Photos of students
who are selected to receive
this award are displayed in
the showcase opposite the
office.
