School Hours & Class Schedule

• School Hours: 7:50-3:15 (Students can be dropped off no earlier than 7:30)

• Music, Art, Technology, Spanish, PE, Library

• Math, Language Arts, and Reading, are taught every day. Social Studies and Science are rotated throughout the year.

Reading Program• Texas Treasures (McGraw Hill)• Teaches phonics, grammar, spelling, writing• Great vocabulary building• Good for all reading levels• Students will bring books home and take a

comprehension test weekly.

Monday• Test on Friday

Creative Writing• Journals are not edited• Published work is edited• D’Nealian handwriting

Math• enVision Math 2.0• Hands on and inquiry based• Critical Thinking Skills• Integrates Science and Social Studies

into the curriculum• Technology resources

Core Knowledge• The Core Knowledge philosophy

provides a carefully sequenced set of skills and content with an emphasis on the knowledge that is most useful and productive for children living in American society today.

• What your First Grader Needs to Know by E.D. Hirsch

• Civilization, Mesopotamia, Ancient Egypt, History of world religions, early explorers, American Revolution, modern civilization: Mexico, hunters & nomads

Home Folders & Planners• Binder will include the student

planner, citizenship sheet, book bag, and the red folder.

• Check and sign the planner daily as we will be communicating events, behavior, and assignments.

• Red Folder will contain parent notes, graded papers, and school information.

Evaluation• 9 weeks• Report cards with number grades• Progress reports• Istation for reading monthly• Pre-assessments• Post Assessments

Lunch• 11:25-11:55

• Please send any utensils that are needed for lunch. • Practice opening items and containers.

• Birthday celebrations are limited to only Goodie Bags. No food can be passed out at school.

• Due to allergies we are a Nut Free Campus.

Dress Code• Mills Uniforms or Parker Uniforms• Shirts- must be monogrammed with ACA

logo• Shoes- mostly black, white, brown, navy• Socks/ tights/ leggings- solid white, black,

navy• Belts- plain or braided, black or brown• Friday Dress Code- Students may wear

spirit shirts and uniform bottoms at no cost.

• Lucky Buck Friday- Students may wear blue jean bottoms and a spirit shirt/ uniform shirt for $1. Pay weekly or yearly.

Absences• Very important to be in school in first grade.• If child is sick, make up work will be

provided.• If make up work is requested, parent should

call or email by 9:30am.

Homework and Health• After school program from 4-6• Certified teachers• Sign up through office• Contact Coach Heard for more information at

Dismissal• Begins at 3:15.• Stay in designated lane to ensure quick pick-up. • Walking up to get your child is NOT

permitted.• Keep signs visible in your windshield

until your child is loaded into your car.

• Any student not picked up by 3:45 will go to the front office.
