Feed the Need to grow the Kingdom

1 Peter 2:1-12

A brief history

What was happening around Peter when he wrote his first epistle?

A similar story today

Are people still in darkness today?

Over 1 billion people are hungry.

A child dies every 5 seconds from a hunger-related illness.

About 1.4 billion people earn less than $1.25 a day.

Sub-Saharan Africa is home to over 60% of the world’s HIV population.

4 children die every day as a result of child abuse.

15 million American adults are affected by major depression.

Suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death for ages 10 to 24 in the US.

By 2020, depression will be the 2nd most common health problem in the world.

We still live in a world that needs to know our “living hope.”

1 Peter 2:1-12

We are called to not only speak hope, but also to live out our hope.

Can I be holy as God is holy?

Why does God want us to be holy?

How do I grow in holiness?

We must crave the promises of God.

We must become the promises of God.

We must proclaim the promises of God.

We must hope in the promises of God.

What should I do with this holiness?

Does it matter if I don’t want to be holy?

Our response

1) Seek to live in the four-fold challenge of Peter.

2) If the word doesn’t excite you, why not?

3) Put your holiness on display for the glory of God and the hope of

the nations.

Why is being a part of God’s people worth it?
