Hi from the Rally Committee.
Time seems to be flying by and before we know it September will be here for our 60th Anniversary Rally.
The Clare Caravan Park will be the Rally Head Quarters. As of 14th January 2016, there are 12 cabins still
available and plenty of powered and unpowered sites. The park has undergone an ownership/management
change and initially the rates were to increase for us in 2016. As we block-booked the park before the rate
increase, the park will not increase the rate for us. I believe the park has sent out emails to those who have
already booked to advise the revised rates.
For other accommodation, there are many hotels, motels, B&B’s etc in and around Clare - please refer to the list on the Entry Form.
So far we have about 60 Expression of Interest/Entries. We are still expecting the number to be 100 plus, so
if you know someone who will be going but has not put in an Expression of Interest/Entry, please encourage
them to do so as it will make planning easier for us. There are entries from most mainland states and an
enquiry from a group in New Zealand.
The rally routes are mainly in flat or undulating country with very few hills, so ideal for
veteran bikes as well as later models. The rally routes avoid main roads where possible.
Saturday 17th September, rally packs will be available at the caravan park – place and time to be advised later. On Saturday afternoon there will be a short shake-down
ride in the immediate Clare area. A BBQ (included in the rally entry fee) will be at the
main
caravan park shelter. BYO drinks.
Sunday: we will be in Burra for lunch (own responsibility – plenty of venues to choose
from) and time to explore the historic township.
Monday: we visit Blyth, lunch in Bute and a stop in Snowtown.
Tuesday: is the longest ride to visit the old Gladstone Gaol, lunch in Jamestown.
Wednesday we will visit Martindale Hall for morning tea and the optional tour of the Hall. After that the rest of the day is free. There are many places to visit including
Mintaro on the way back to Clare. We are in the process of possibly arranging a visit to
another
venue on Wednesday afternoon for those so inclined. Martindale Hall: There has been some controversy regarding the future of the Hall, whether it would be sold to private
owners and used for exclusive accommodation. We have been assured it will still be
available for our visit. It is well worth the tour particularly if, in the future, it will be
closed to the general public.
Wednesday night: we hope to hold a movie night in the small town of Blyth not far out
of Clare.
Thursday: we ride south of Clare to Saddleworth for morning tea and Eudunda for lunch.
Thursday night: the farewell dinner at the Clare Golf Course.
Friday morning: departure/farewell time.
The Bay to Birdwood Rally is on Sunday 25th September – so ample time to travel back to Adelaide to be part of the event or to see the vehicles go past. For information
go to http://www.baytobirdwood.com.au/. The run is for all types of vehicles built
before 31st December 1956.
The VVMCC motorcycle’s only swap meet will be held the following Sunday 2nd
October in the Adelaide Hills’ town of Balhannah.

Entry Forms: we have received a small number of entry forms that are a little confusing.
To clarify, when completing the entry form, please note the following points:
The Entry Fee for the rider and bike of $110 includes the Welcome BBQ, morning teas, Gladstone
gaol entry and a Rally shoulder bag with the rally pack.
The Entry fee for the Adult Rider Supporter of $70 includes the Welcome BBQ, morning teas and
Gladstone gaol entry. This also applies to a second person who may be following in a car who wants to attend the BBQ, morning teas and gaol entry.
We will be issuing a lanyard to each rider and each supporter entrant, on the back of which will be a
list of meals etc that have been paid for.
Please ensure the entry form is completed clearly with your requirements as the lanyard will be your
“meal ticket”.
Please also deduct the $25 Expression of Interest fee if you have previously paid it.
For members of the VVMCC
We have a small number of people who have already indicated they will help with back-up or marshalling
but we would appreciate more people to help out if you can. Please advise someone on the committee if
you can help.
Committee members: Terry Rowe, Arnold De Groot, Tony Morisset, Shirley Rowe, Maggie Moore and Gary Jolly.

Australia day display—26th January 2016. The Salisbury council invited the VVMCCSA to display their motorcycles at the annual Australia Day
celebrations. Betty Gill (Council member) said that this year they gave away about 3000 egg and bacon
sandwiches compared to about 1500 last year. We were not in our usual shaded area but a short distant away with a gazebo supplied for shade. 7 members
attended and displayed their motorcycles—Paul Knapp 1957 Triumph, Jim Black 1959 Triumph, Roger
O’Loughlin 1952 Horex, Colin Behn 1920 Harley Davidson and 1955 AJS, Peter Yates 1928 Indian Chief outfit
with “Max” and Brian Forth with 1923 Elliott and 1957 Triumph. We had to keep a careful eye on the motorcycles because boisterous youngsters though that climbing on
motorcycles was free and a thrill, but were quickly told to leave
them alone. Some returned under ‘parental supervision’ only to
continue to fiddle with all bikes, pulled in clutch levers, twisted
throttles and generally annoying. But we had another great entertaining day. Harry Maltese.

Hahndorf breakfast and swap meet ride.
Sunday forecast was for a warm day in the low 30c making it reasonable for riding in the hills.
Slowly members arrived in the rear car park of Feathers Hotel in preparation for the ride to Hahndorf.
Members were given a quick briefing as to why the ride will
go via Ashton, Lenswood and Woodside and be aware of speed camera and bicycle riders along that route.
We had 2 magnificent Vincent's, 3 outfits, 7 Triumphs, a
Scott, Douglas, Norton, Ariel, Honda, Velocette, BMW and a
few modern bikes on the ride. We also had Mark Gascoigne
from the Antique Motorcycle Club of Australia as a guest ride with Arnold DeGroot.
The surprise of the day was Ross Hill on an original and unrestored 1925 Triumph outfit which slowly chugged up
Greenhill road, blowing a little smoke along the way, but
Ross and the Triumph made it to the Mill for breakfast a few
minutes after the last rider arrived.
Rob Mather volunteered to lead the ride and left with 6 corner marshals.
We waited a few minutes only to be abused by a neighbour
for making too much noise at 8.20am?
We left to enjoyed the meandering ride thru the hills, where
we encountered small groups of bicycle riders along the way
and they did not cause any problem for us.
We arrived about 9.15am and 30 members and 1 visitor
enjoyed breakfast.
By this time the temperature had risen a fair bit, whereby
some members decided to ride home and a few then ventured onto the Hahndorf Swap meet.
