EDITOR’S LETTER
FASHION SHOOTStrong individual personality is a trend that beats all styles and fashion influences. Our fashion editorial is inspired by a legendary person, an example of courage and determination, the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, Amelia Earhart. After this experience I actually took my first flight on biplane taking a chance to admire Como Lake from a different perspective. No need in hard challenges, just don’t forget to always do something for the first time.
Mondays do frighten with the responsibility of beginnings, but they are just a white canvas, scary yet inspiring at the same
time. The first days of autumn make many of us feel this same way, it’s the start of the school and work year for most, and for the fashion industry this new season is full of the preparation and presentation of the fashion weeks when the trends for the upcoming year get created. In September we need the virtues of power and confidence, and these are the qualities that are owned by the newest lineup of the leading executive designers who talked with us in the latest Fashion&Beauty issue. Read our exclusive interview with Alessandro Dell’Acqua, the designer who faced difficulties by becoming stronger, and today his collections are among the most influential in fashion; the world renowned architect Piero Lissoni who offers advice on how to discover the authentic Milan; and beauty expert Diego Dalla Palma speaks with us about how to discover in yourself the Italian charm.
And last but not least, it has been one year since the first edition of our magazine arrived in Italy. Our readership now probably knows more about the most amazing places in Italy better than the locals, and we’re not slowing down. We’re opening the season filled with new projects and fresh surprises. As these new beginnings inspire us, here’s something to think about. Why don’t we live this entire upcoming year as if everyday was a clean sheet of paper?

SEARCHING FOR THE SUN
August in Italy is a month of vacations, scorching sun, and an iris colored sea. It is a time to relax and clear your mind of work. It is also a unique
opportunity to see the deserted streets of Milan without its day-to-day tourists flocking to the city, the busy restaurants and always-in-a-hurry clerks. For those who didn’t choose to visit the sea or the
mountains there’s still something to do in Italy. Our City Guide has a couple of ideas to share. If your entertainment program doesn’t seem exciting
enough, then just wait till the summer’s end. The Venice Film Festival starts right towards the end
of August passing the baton to Fashion Week, Pitti and Milan’s movie show starring talented young
directors. You certainly won’t be bored! Make this holiday season one to remember!

VENICE FILM FESTIVAL27TH OF AUGUST - 6TH OF SEPTEMBER At the end of August, the Venice’s Lido, a thin strip of land east of the Laguna, returns to be leader, thanks to the 71st edition of the Venice Film Festival. Announced well in advance are the names of the Godmother of this edition, the Mediterranean Luisa Ranieri, and those of the director of the film festival, Alberto Barbera, who in the past was the former head of the National Museum of Cinema in Turin, and the titles of the films in the competition. As always, the event will host VIP’s and premieres, as well as a lot of controversial movies. For example? Kim Ki-duk, with his “One on One”, will open the Venice Days this year. The film tells the story of the murder and rape of a girl, the crime of which seven people were convicted. Kim himself has called it “a film about the country where I live, South Korea .” There is a strong chance of controversy coming. Another big moment? Of course, there will be George Clooney, a great lover of Italy and a frequent visitor to the Venetian event. With him and the actors of all the important movies coming out in September 2014, we will see them walking the red carpet and at the parties organized by the sponsors of the Biennale. As always, everything will happen at the Lido, which is called the “Island of Gold “ by the Venetians and worshiped by Lord Byron, who had elected it as his “retreat”. Snubbed by intellectuals, the Lido is one of the living historical testimonies of the Venice Film Festival. labiennale.org
MILAN FILM FESTIVAL4TH - 14TH OF SEPTEMBER
As always, every year the squares, theaters, auditoriums, roads, streets, suburbs, parks, museums, and galleries of Milan will unexpectedly be invaded by more than 200 films visible night and day. Here comes the Milan Film Festival, an event that remains firmly anchored to the production of research carried out by national and international talent. A “democratic”cinema, open to all, which aims to be a forum for exchange and socialization. This year the program will be full of previews and meetings with emerging moviemakers. As has become tradition, including the hot-spots in the city there will be Sempione Park and Milan Triennale for parties and meetings. milanofilmfestival.it

Piero Lissoni has a versatile talent. At home and abroad he is known as a furniture and interior designer and architect. He is also the art director of several large Italian companies. One of his latest
works is an installation in the Brera Botanical Garden, which he calls the “Geometric Park.” Clearly defined
THE FUTURE OF ITALIAN DESIGN
TIPS FROM PIERO LISSONI
CITY GUIDE PERSONA
1. WHAT TO SEE IN MILAN? First of all, I would mention the must-not-see places. If you want to plunge into the real haute couture world I would not recommend going to the
famous Quadrilatero della Moda (Fashion District). Or at least check it out late at night when the flocking tourists will not distract you! 2. OF COURSE, I ADVISE YOU TO
OPT FOR MUSEUMS. Milan offers all kinds of art. 3. ALSO, YOU’D BE BETTER TO SEEK OUT PLACES NOT LISTED IN THE COMMON GUIDEBOOKS. Pop into any typical pizzeria or a
small shop selling goods of their own making.4. AND FINALLY, I WOULD SAY THAT THIS IS A BIKE CAPITAL. There are plenty of special stores selling handmade models.
PIERO LISSONIFounded his own office in 1986 and worked with companies like Alessi, Boffi, Cappellini, Cassina, Flos / Antares, Kartell, Frau, Porro, Riva 1920. Lissoni is also engaged in villas, museums and boutique designs.

FASHIONANDBEAUTY.IT18
shapes added a touch of elegance to the space and created the illusion of a labyrinth. This project was presented during the Design Week. We met Signor Lissoni to talk about his work, present day Milan and the evolution of architecture.
Your park has made a great impression on visitors. What inspired you to create it? Botanical gardens are a creative playground. There are no limits here, as rain and wind get into the pavilion. It was an absolutely open space. The geometric shapes perfectly fused with the plants.
Do you think that forgotten and abandoned places in Milan should get a second life, or would designers be better to focus on something else? I am sure that such corners should definitely get a second chance, not only in Milan but in other cities as well. We need to stop our constant search of new places and finally start to use existing ones. Why don’t we turn abandoned land into architectural sites?
Famous critic Philippe Daverio once said that design is halfway between reality and utopia. Do you agree with that? Absolutely! Philippe Daverio seized the point. Very often design tries to be something really important in human life and change our views and nature in some way. As for me, I’ve always believed that our purpose is different. Every item that I create has to perform its function well, be practical and comfortable, but it shouldn’t effect its owner’s mind.
In your opinion, does architecture and design have a lot in common or are these two concepts that need to be clearly distinguished? I guess they should drift together again. I never liked the idea of a clear separation. I believe in blending and intersection of these worlds. To this extent, I support romantic ideas of the Milanese school.
Are you talking about the years of your studies? Our faculty has always prepared excellent professionals who can go far in any field of architecture and design. I think we need to go back to this good tradition.
Why is Milan an international design center? It’s so simple. Milan is a kind of fore-side. It reflects all that happens in the design industry. Milan is a platform where the whole country can show its achievements and successes. Everything flies around this city. For example, there would be no furniture exhibition without Milan, its industry, production and artisans.
Everybody is looking forward to the World Expo 2015. Do you think this event can spice up the polemics about the future of Italian architecture? This is a temporary exhibition. Millions of visitors from all around the world head to Milan. I hope that they will come not only for the Expo, but to see the city as well. And not only the city but also the whole of Italy. As for the debates, I would leave this topic until the show starts.

Corso Como can be considerated a synthesis of fashion, design, art and culture. A pedestrian street with old buildings where the old Milanese architecture meets the industrial elements, reinventing a new aesthetic. In this atmosphere you will encounter some of the most stylish shops in town, from concept stores to accessories shops TEXT: Barbara CENTAZZO, PHOTO: Dan SPIGELMAN
AVERY PERFUME GALLERYThe Avery Perfume Gallery in Milan can be considered a living perfume shop. The concept of the store is to have the customer’s attention centered only on the aromas, for this reason you will notice immediately the lack of packaging. This is a very different experience from the commercial perfumeries where clients choose with the eyes and not with the nose. The aim is rather to make the approach of engaging the rich scents in such a way that you feel comfortable and just focus on the perfume.

1PINK EXPLOSION
Shocking pink, dust pink, fuchsia pink, pastel pink… these are just some of the
shades of this hue we find on the catwalks for next season. The super feminine
and romantic nuance will bring a little bit of spring into the colder season. It’s alluring and exciting, fun to wear and a
sweet addition to the traditional seasonal palette. Perfect to wear for a total look or just to accessorize with it, the important
thing is to wear it!

Jeremy Scott, in his first collection for Moschino, brings the historic brand to
McDonald’s. The Happy Meal becomes a bag, the potato chips an iPhone case, and the models’ dresses as maids have literally made
the fiercest fashionistas crazy. The amazing thing was the sale immediately after the show
on moschino.com online shop, thus making the collection a real must have.

LEATHER RULEForget about the classic
fabrics, the top is made of soft and precious leather. The
runways have given us a lot of variations of this special

many different colors. Let’s cover ourselves with
leather this winter!

6EXAGERATED RUFFLES
The ruches are not simple details but the real protagonists
of the skirts and give movement for any type of silouette. They can be delicate and sculptural
or very strong, but this year the trend wants to be exaggerated and theatrical, to be wearable
both day and night.
BLUE JEANSBlue jeans are the most comfortable garments to wear. They’re easy to match for a perfect and complete outfit. Last year was the 140 anniversary of denim jeans, and the last few seasons designers have literally gone crazy for this material. Frida Giannini, for Gucci, has dressed the runway models wearing classic denims paired with jackets and retrò coats.

CHANEL SUPERMARKETKarl Lagerfeld, for the Chanel fashion show, has
created something absolutely unique. He has trasformed the Parisian catwalk into a luxury supermarket. Models have shopped the shelves
wearing truly unique accessories: decorated baskets, egg box clutches, milk carton purses, and many others with the very recognizable cross “C” logo.
FAIRLY TALEBenedetta Bruzziches, creator of a brand of bags that bears her name, sells her products in the most glamorous stores in the world, from New York to Paris. Her designs are very unique, f inished with precious details, and sophisticated original shapes.
“Life is a cabaret, with this bag even better!”.
BETWEEN ART AND FASHIONMarni collaborated with two French artists, Christophe Joubert and Francois-Xavier Tavy-Sacley and one Italian, Stefano Favaro, for the creation of an art collection. The main inspiration comes from the Art Brut and Outsiders Art, forms of artistic expression that connect to the outside market and institutions. Formal freedom and strong personality are the key points. “One should either be a work of art, or wear a work of art.”

9. THE MASTER OF IMAGES Richard Avedon, one of the finest
fashion photographers of all time, is featured in a book dedicated to him that traces his career with a collection of photos that have left an indelible mark, in fashion and photography. It is interesting to recognize the evolution of style, taste, thought and ideas.
BARBARA CENTAZZO9 Things That Inspire Me In SeptemberWith each turn of the season I feel the desire for change in the air. The four fashion weeks have brought a large number of trends to follow, and the only thing to do is to throw yourself headlong into the ones you prefer the most and that reflect your own being. There is a form of individualism in which everyone can dare in the spirit of determination to boldly seize the new season. So give space to the fashion hazards, while embracing the strokes of colors, the shiny, metallic materials and to the architectural structures. The autumn is near, so try to wear the sun.
1.CASUAL CHIC I can’t imagine a more delicate
and charming dress than this burnt orange frock from the Chloé fall/winter collection. The color, the graceful ruffles and the flowy fabric inject a bit of spring into the gloomy days of the colder season.
2.ARTSY RETRO Cat eye sunglasses are a
perfect match for the first fall looks on chilly days. Fendi has created a reinterpretation of this summer’s Iridia, for an ultra colored winter.
3.ROMANTIC FUTURISM I’m absolutely in love with this
Christopher Kane dress made with fluttering swaths of organza piled high to create a geometric ruffle effect. I really like the way the creators played with fabric and design.
4.GOLDEN HEEL Alber Elbaz is all about making
a woman feel like the most beautiful creature that she is. I adore these shoes which remind me of the Old Hollywood glamour with a modern day power.
5. RAW STONEI find the Chloé accessories always
fascinating and very special, especially because they somehow have a futuristic impression, while yet being very basic and minimal.
6.LUXURIOUS SHAPESaint Laurent accessories are haute
couture objects worthy of admiration worldwide. I’m personally a lover of rings, and sporting the latest fall/winter accessories I fell in love with this.
7. LARGE DAY CLUTCH Every woman wants a Proenza
Schouler bag hanging in her closet. This clutch for example is perfect for everyday wear, especially due to its minimalistic and humble design.
8. ARCHITECTURAL SHAPEWhenever there is a new Marni
collection out I am always amazed by the beauty and style that Consuelo Castiglioni is able to bring onto the catwalk. I am particularly struck by these architectural deconstructed shaped earrings!

FALL WARDROBE ESSENTIALS
We are so excited about the possibilities that designers have presented for winter. Here’s a look at the Top 10 must-haves
COLORFUL MINIDRESSThe minidress has always been a must-have for women, to be worn on certain occasions or even every day in many different ways. The only differences compared to other seasons are that this year the minidress is even more sculptural and colorful than ever before, just like the ones in the Mary Katrantzou collection.
TAILLEURWe have seen emerging a new femininity brought on by the masculine cut tailleur, giving the woman her natural allure and super feminine look. The best masculine interpretations came from: Christian Dior, Ralph Lauren, DKNY and Jason Wu. Androgynous can be sensual.
PONCHOThe poncho is a great winter staple and one of the season’s biggest trends. The key garment of a lot of fashion shows, created in different models and materials, like Burberry Prorsum who put it over the model’s shoulders like a chic blanket.
METALLIC SHINE
Sparkling and bright, in a golden age version; with a silver touch or a
colorful shine, everything is tinged with metal, from clothing to accessories, and handbags to shoes. This
year it’s all about the shine, so go ahead and buy sparkling pieces. Shine on
you diamond!
FASHION TOP 10
SNEAKERSThe sneaker craze dominated the streets of
Milan, Paris, London and New York last season, but now it is not only a popular trend among
fashion bloggers and fashion show guests, but for everyone. Designers at the moment are fascinated by this trend, even for their haute-couture fashion
shows. Everyone must have a cool pair for this winter, easily styled with everything
from the day to day outfits or dressed up with a skirt.

6MIDI SKIRT
If you like these kinds of skirts this year you will have a big variety of options to choose from. The midi
skirt should become a staple in every wardrobe, whether you opt for sleek or voluminous styles. Really stylish and
trendy with flats or heels.
APPLICATIONSThe buzz word of the season is: decoration. In fact clothes and accessories are embellished by a lot of chic applications for a three-dimensional printing or optical effect. Also, the supreme icon of the house of Dior, the Lady Dior, is transformed into a precious garden with a lot of 3D flowers.
PLATFORMSThey made their first appearance last summer,
then in the various fashion weeks, and now are on the feet of the trendiest fashion
icons in the world. Platforms are making a huge comeback in many creative and
masculine inspired options. In particular, Stella McCartney created for this fall/winter
season absolutely unique shoes, matching her aesthetic mood of modernist with attitude.
BOMBER JACKETThe bomber jacket is famous for being a cult favorite of the 80s and now it is back on the catwalks maintaining its basic structure but revisited in various textures, prints and colors, with no limit to fantasy. Thanks to its appearance we feel a sporty edge which is ultra fashionable and pratical.
LONG SWEATERSThe knitwear changes its form and
becomes one of the most prominent trends. Many designers have brought
it onto the catwalks: Céline, Stella McCartney, and Marc Jacobs. Done
in soft overall looks or in different variants, such as a long dress or
matched with trousers of the same material and color.
A luxe makeover in length.

One of a few cases when a tiara would be a

the classical jewelry laws. “Le frisson”
is translated as “trembling”, or “chill”.
However, Chaumet explains that “Le

Korloff’s selection presents a jewelry

ALESSANDRO DELL’ACQUA Fashion & Beauty met up with the founder of the
young brand N ° 21 to get his view of vogue, Italian quality and the fashion industry’s future INTERVIEW: Paolo BRISCESE, PHOTO: courtesy of press offices
Today the inspiration and founder of N ° 21, Alessandro Dell’Acqua, is one of the brightest personalities in the Italian fashion industry. Since
2013 he has been working as the creative director for the French brand Rochas. His influence on the company’s style is glaringly obvious. Alessandro capably combines masculine and feminine elements, creating aesthetically perfect clothing combinations. The designer is avid on experimentation, but at the same time, he remains true to the best traditions of dressmaking.
Your brand N ° 21 is gaining popularity, not only in Italy, but also abroad. How did the idea of creating this project come about? Why did you choose the number 21? Surely it has a special meaning to you.21? It is my birthday. This figure has become my lucky number over time.
Your creations celebrate feminine beauty and elegance. Your vision of art seems very instinctive and natural, as if ideas cross your mind without any effort. Where do you get your inspiration from? For me inspiration can have completely different roots. Oftentimes, an idea comes from a bright impression caused by some affair or event. If this feeling gets stuck in your head, there is a big chance that it will turn into something more. It can be a frenzy for the cinema, for example. I’m a big movie buff, but I’m also keen on female silhouettes, sophistication and the sensual actresses of Italian neorealism. Moreover, I’m enthusiastic over the style and refined taste of Milan’s social elite representatives. All of it becomes a sketch of future ideas that afterward takes on its specific forms, volumes, and eventually they turn into full-fledged collections.
What, in your opinion, should a fashion brand have to be noticed and appreciated? Designers should be able to join common objects from life and trends. The main thing any creator must avoid is nostalgia. I think following these rules is a starting point of brand development.

The fashion world is constantly changing, so you must always be open to new trends.
Which aspect of your job do you like most and which do you not like? I like the process of turning ideas into something concrete, as well as an opportunity to make something creative. The least I like about my job is social activities with camera lenses trying to catch me, and so on.
Last year, you were asked to enter the office of creative director in the French brand Rochas. What does such a high opinion of your work mean to you? How will this position effect the brand’s new collections? Being a man over 50, I’m so happy to be in such an important place. In fact, I was very surprised at the Rochas’ choice. There are a lot of talented and younger designers all around. But the fact that I was taken into confidence means the great importance of “Made in Italy” label. We continue to do a good job, and due to this we’re well known far beyond the home country.
At the age of 23 you were entrusted in the position as Genny’s creative director. Which changes that have occurred during this time in the world of fashion were the most rigorous? There were very many of them. Some were very obvious, while the others weren’t noticeable at first glance. For example, when I look at the images created by myself 10 years ago, I absolutely do not feel nostalgia. On the contrary, I quite calmly understand that I always need to move on in spite of everything.
My desire to create and my aesthetic taste still remains unchanged. Today, I don’t opt for something extravagant and incredible for a catwalk, but for things every woman needs in her everyday life.
How do you manage to follow fashion trends and keep the classic, artisan approach to business at the same time? These two things seem incomparable. Over the years I have become a realist and a pragmatist. I no longer dream of catwalk shows similar to the real performances. I’m trying to create collections aimed at consumers. Today, much has changed in our business. Nowadays a designer should be not only an entrepreneur and manager, but feed his creative vision as well.
What do you think about fashion’s low cost networks and growing affordability of designer items? Many high fashion brands have already evolved. Apart from exclusive collections and podium stuff, they began to create more ready-to-wear lines. Moreover, now you can get whatever you want via the Internet. Thus, the consumer’s attitude to shopping is changing as well. And we must take it into account.
You often travel abroad. What does
traveling mean to you? My fantasy is often up in the clouds, even if I keep still. But traveling is, first of all, a discovery for me. It baits my curiosity as well as emotional thirst. It is a very challenging
and fascinating experience.
Do you think any Italian brand is ready for generational change? I would say this change is necessary. There are no other options. We must become more united, work
systematically, and continue to think creatively. The best feedback is an action. We need to support young and promising designers, promote close cooperation between private and public sectors, hold activities in the world of fashion. Italy is a treasure that is yet to be fully
discovered, this is particularly so with the fashion industry.
Your world is full of emotions, discoveries and researches. Do you have an ultimate goal? Investigations and research still go on. I do not want to feel like a man who has already done everything in his life. I will always strive for new experiments and sensations. Fashion is an exciting world full of passion. And we, designers, become its reflection.

Pitti Uomo’s new session has started with table tennis. Two giant rackets and dozens of tables have been installed in the courtyard. The ping
pong balls were bouncing from one playing field to another on their own. Visitors were pretty amazed watching a virtual match. Finally their curiosity was answered by Pitti Immagine’s Deputy General Director, Agostino Poletto, who said: “Ping Pong is a constant movement, concentration, passion and sleight of hand. Fashion has the same elements that help to create new models’ style and choose fabric, color and cut.”.
This year exhibitors took a new look at the classic men’s fashion, adding prints and unusual fabrics that are rough, bulky and scratched. Colors turned out brighter and accessories more stunning.
Next summer designers advise to opt for bright ties, as well as cotton or linen jackets and shirts with floral patterns.
Accessories and shoes are going to be pastel colored. The famous Madison 308 shoes by Cesare Paciotti and hats by Borsalino will be no exception. Massimo Rebecchi pays much attention to jackets, as he did before. Next summer they will be less formal, much to the casual style fans’ delight. Italian brand opts for lightweight fabrics with a delavè effect.
Au Jour Le Jour is among the youth clothing brands to be mentioned. The presentation of S/S 2015 collection was held between school desks with a runway set up nearby. Models wore classic blazers with short trousers, bombers with Bermuda shorts and long >

Au Jour Le Jour designers were deeply inspired by childhood memories, and in particular, school time. Printed erasers, pencils and glue tubes were among the details. Everyday stationery got a glamorous touch and so occurred the summer trend of 2015.
Turning to the classic men’s style setters, Ermenegildo Zegna should not go unmentioned. The brand introduced a concise collection called Z Zegna. It is marked by a sporty cut, soft lines and a modest color palette.
Urban gray, brown and blue shades ran the catwalk show. Yellow is the key singular vibrant hue to be mentioned. It seems that the Zegna styled man is trying to merge with the city and become an integral part of the metropolis, at one with where he lives and works.
Now let’s go to the Milan men’s fashion week, where John Richmond was the first to draw our attention. His new collection follows the best traditions of the fashion

ENERGY AND A CRAVING FOR FUN ARE GOING TO BE THE LEAD MOTIVES FOR THE NEW COLLECTIONS. IN THE SUMMER OF 2015 THE MASCULINE SPIRIT WILL BE EXPRESSED IN A MORE CARELESS YET DECISIVE MANNER, WITH A WILLINGNESS TO EXPERIMENT WITH THE FRONTIERS OF FASHION
Maison as he continues to experiment with fabrics and lines, creating things of a showy nature. Meanwhile, Vivienne Westwood seems to be torn between the studied elegance of a London dandy and the floppy Scarecrow of Oz. Cropped pants and sports elements add a unique charm to the new collection of the declared “punk queen”.
Philipp Plein has literally invited all guests to “plunge” into fashion trends. The action took place near the pool. The colors presented in the collection perfectly matched the ocean theme. Blue and white played a key role, supported by red and black. Next summer the Philippe Plein styled man will wear ripped jeans with a pattern of colored anchors, as well as hot pants, army boots and sandals. Basically, the perfectly on trend gentlemen will turn into real sailors with a slight touch of glamour.
MSGM created a number of models with optical floral prints. Designers have painted the collection in shades of gray, white, yellow and blue. The classic square and pied-de-poule patterns will remain trendy for at least another summer season. Pants are getting shorter, sandals replace closed shoes, while accessories become crucial, especially sunglasses or peaks. The latter can be made of both fabric and leather. The new collection was accompanied by a video clip, symbolically called “Je me cherche” (I’m looking for you).

Ah, summer! Glorious summer, louder sing! I bet your head is spinning, when it’s high time to decide where to spend unforgettable
moments of happiness and relaxation. Take my tip and go to Sicily or Sardinia! If you want to escape the hustle and daily routine, laze in the sun or even hide from the world on a snow white yacht prowling the crystalline waters of the Mediterranean, take a ticket to Palermo and, following my advice, stay in the exclusive residence of Villa Tasca. The 15th century estate spreads over eight hectares and is smothered in the gardens of exotic palms, acacia and almond trees with narrow paths, quiet arbors and swan lakes. By the way, two swans living in the villa were named Tristan and Isolde after the heroes of famous opera by Richard Wagner who was the villa’s honorary guest.

Villa Tasca, Palermo, Sicily

It seems nothing has changed since 18th century, even the ancient statues and paintings in heavy bronze frames remain. The Tasca library contains unique books on art, history and etiquette. They are all joined by the Suite Verde - one of the four luxury suites. The billiard room with an English bar and terrace lies nearby. Swimming in the pool with fresh water and having lunch on the terrace will save you from the summer heat. Why not continue this wonderful day in Palermo? Being on the beach of
Mondello, considered to be the most beautiful in the area, take a sail around the landlocked sky blue bay to explore the savage beauty of the Aeolian Islands. Swimming in such a picturesque location will give you an unforgettable experience. The island of Stromboli, with its famous volcano, is another must visit location on your route. At sunset a yacht will take you to dinner at a seafood restaurant.
The best Sicilian restaurant in Milan called 13 Giugno will remind you of Palermo’s slightly salty and spicy spirit as well as of its f lavorful cuisine. Saverio Dolcimascolo,
“siciliano vero”, will treat you with love and to his swordf ish rolls, warm squid salad and sweet-like-a-dream cassata.Italy has special places that are magnetically attractive to the beautiful, the rich and the famous. And this power is growing as the holiday and beach season begins! Luxurious white yachts come in sight as they reach the indented coastline with white coral sand and villas spreading out in the shade of emerald pines. We are in Porto Cervo embracing all “ins” throughout Sardinia. Here the degree of success and fame is rising along with the temperature! Your snow white yacht will be joined by famous “neighbors” as you rent it for family vacations using the prestigious
Italian broker Moncada di Paterno. One of them may have a chat about America’s Cup’s results with your spouse, while the other shares the passwords for the most private and exclusive spots on the coast with you, as the third’s wife becomes your friend, joining you on a shopping tour in the prestigious Promenade du Port with its showrooms, art galleries and the best boutiques and restaurants. If your holiday falls in August, then meet me in Porto Cervo, under the roof of the Promenade du Port. Get ready for unique musical sessions, eminent chefs’ dinners, private parties and the sky blue sea with crazy shopping experiences in the middle of the day! Summer in Sardinia is like a bright and beautiful daydream!

At the beginning of every new season it’s probably best to go through all the things and see what still fits and what they’ve
come to outgrow. That way, after seeing what they still can wear, you get a better idea of what you need to be buying. For all the warmer items that you need to buy, don’t worry, we bring you the best picks. Probably the most essential for rainy days are good rubber boots. You want the kids’ feet to stay dry and they will surly enjoy making a splash. Go for famous Hunter boots that will look as good on your kid’s as well as on your feet, or maybe colorful and comfortable rubber boots by Crocs. A nice raincoat is also a plus, and the transparent ones with polka dot prints will make any cloudy day brighter. Also bringing joy into the colder part of the year are printed puffy jackets that are a must for keeping warm even during the coldest days. Interesting prints are a nice way to add some color and if you opt for the ones with animals you might also bring a bit of a summer feeling into any outfit. Coats are another great

option and they come in so many cute variations that are hard to resist. Green, yellow, red and purple are quite colorful and easy to maintain. Styles range from classic to retro and everything in between so everyone can find something that fits their taste. If you feel it’s warm enough for something slightly lighter, vests are not only practical but also trendy. For girls the faux fur vests can be bought from most
of designers this season, while for boys a denim vest is the best. Put them over a blouse or a hoodie and the kids will be ready in a minute. Tights and jeans are always super practical so make sure you’ll have some ready. Besides them, corduroy pants will keep the kids warm during the winter days. Denim is not only reserved for pants, but also jackets and shirts as the denim on denim trend is still going strong.

THE ACCESSORY PAR EXCELLENCEDesigners advise us to go far and daring, wearing multicolored and printed bags. Accessories mixed in bright, pastel or neutral colors, with slogans, geometric features or artistic inspirations are so cool.
JUST FOLLOW THE LINESHere are some tips to help you get ready for the arrival of the cold season
TIME FOR FURWinter 2014 will be the golden age of fur accessories, especially bags, which populate the collections of almost every high fashion house. The possibilities are many and often very eccentric. We remember Cara Delevingne opening the Fendi fashion show exhibiting a mini Karl Lagerfeld in fur, an ironic tribute that was both funny and ultra-luxurious. It’s called the Bag Boy Karlito and it is the evolution of the Bag Bugs of Fendi. Who doesn’t want one?

STATEMENT BOOTSThe charm of over-the-knee boots is hard to pass by, in fact, we have seen a lot of them in the fall/winter runways. They are rock ‘n’ roll, sexy and take inspiration from the style of the seventies. One thing is for sure, next season they are a real must have.
ROLLED GOLDA touch of gold to combine with classic black, it adds a touch of opulence to the garment, applied both to urban and formal silhouettes. The magnificent show of Saint Laurent is one of the best examples of these shades together, along with Moschino, Dolce & Gabbana and Carven; or like Chloé who has decorated skirts and dresses with raised geometric gold emblems. Black and gold, a perfect duo for extravagant pieces made of golden textures.

The best jeweller’s workshops pro-duce a genuine miracle. Precious materials transform into won-derful adorments that are nothing
short of real treasures of art. Jewelry from the haute joaillerie collections has always called attention to itself just as the haute couture shows in the world of fashion. In a sense, fine jewelry is the magic of luxury and dreams. Gems that have been recently extracted from the earth’s womb turn into stunning iridescent jewelry. What distinguishes high jewelry art from the permanent collections? First of all, we need to know that any piece of fine jewelry should be unique and certainly expensive. For ex-ample, Chopard’s designer Caroline Gruosi - Scheufele believes that the price of the haute joaillerie item should exceed 40,000 Euro.

This price is due to the unique decoration, special materials, meticulous work of the jewelers and, of course, relation to the art in a broad sense. Professionals believe that fine jewelry can be distinguished from ordinary pieces by observing its inner side - only first class jewelers can make it flawless.Jewelry art starts where idea and stone meet together. First, sketches turn into the key 3D drawings made by the craftsmen that com-bine precious metal serving as a mold with specially selected gemstones. This subtle and complex process serves as a basis for creating genuine works of fine jewelry. One of the Maisons that has long been giving special attention to the Mètres des arts is Dior. The Dear Dior collection is another tribute to the maestro, Christian Dior’s, epoch. This noetic line has no random parts.
The back side of each piece has a delicate lace pattern reminiscent of one that embellished Christian’s dresses. Perfection of the items is based on the precise attention to details.Van Cleef & Arpels is also famous for its fine jewelry collections. Their recently updated collection, called Pierres de Caractere Varia-tions, proves that designers give equal priori-ty to the high art and permanent collections.Boucheron traditionally offers jewelry de-signs inspired by f lora and fauna. Design-ers emphasize the use of premium quality gems that are diamonds, Madagascar and Kashmiri sapphires, Colombian emeralds and Ceylon rubies. All haute joaillerie items are unique and beautiful, each after its own kind. We can only hope they will bring a lot of joy to their owners and adoring audiences.

DIFFERENT FABRICS FIT TOGETHER SURPRISINGLY WELL“Sweaters have always been my favorite clothes. I like knitted and crocheted pieces, especially wool and cotton ones. They are loose, soft and very cozy. The jumper I’m wearing in the photo is special. I got it from my girlfriend. For me it’s not just a piece of clothing,
but a thing with its own history. My patchwork sweater by Missoni is made of different fabrics - wool, textile and leather. They perfectly f it together though they’re really different, just like my character traits. So, my favorite sweater is also very symbolic.”

PLACE IN THE SUNSun and sea – these are the reasons why thousands of tourists every year are
eager to come to Italy. However, the vacation you’ve been waiting so long for may fall short of your expectations if you don’t take care of your UV
protection in time. In fact, UV radiation damages not only your skin but hair as well. Therefore, we have prepared a couple of tips that will keep your hair
beautiful even under the scorching sun

Those who spend their holidays in Italy can hardly resist the temptation of visiting Milan, Rome and Florence, and lazing around
at least a week at the seaside, sunbathing and enjoying the fantastic sunsets. But it helps to remember that the Italian summer can bring some troubles along with your joyful moments. Sun, high humidity or an extremely dry climate, depending on the region, may adversely effect your hair.
Every self-respecting cosmetic brand offers a lot of hair care products, and you probably already know about all kinds of moisturizing, nourishing and revitalizing hair masks and oils. Therefore, we focus on traditional grandmother-proved remedies that are no less effective.
Shampooing is not enough. It perfectly cleans, but dries your hair and scalp as well. Therefore, don’t forget to use balm and a special softening and nourishing mask after washing your hair to regain its healthy balance.
Select a proper sun protection. If you are not inspired with caps or broad-brimmed hats, then stock up on SPF balm. Before buying, always make sure that it is a leave-in product and will protect your hair up to the next washing.
Take care of your hair after going to the pool! If you are away from the sea, but still want to treat yourself with swimming, you can easily f ind a good spa or pool in Italy. However, do not forget that chlorine can weaken your hair, making it brittle and dry. To avoid this, always use shampoo after swimming. A professional brand with argan oil would be the best one.
Coffee is a versatile pick-me-up. If you’ve noticed your hair falling out while combing, try to massage strong and warm coffee into the scalp.
Set 15 minutes aside to make your hair shine. It’s not a secret that the sun makes hair dry and shine less. To give its healthy look back use a homemade mix of almond oil and shea butter. Cover your head with a warm wet towel, and leave the mask on for 15 minutes.

Choose natural. Each hair stylist will confirm that in the summer hair suffers from stress no less than in winter. Therefore, it’s better to avoid highlighting, permanent straightening and other treatments that can damage the hair structure. Also, keep the use of hair dryers and stylers to a minimum!
Use post-treatment masks after vacations. You feel relaxed after the summer holidays, but your hair doesn’t, it is exhausted and weakened. One of the quickest and most effective ways to bring back the beauty and radiance to your hair is to use a homemade vitamin E and olive oil mask. Keep it on overnight and wash it off in the morning. You will see your hair becoming stronger and silkier.
If you have dry hair, there is nothing better than a slightly warmed olive oil mask. Apply it richly onto your hair and wash it off in half an hour. Then let it air dry in the sun or choose the lowest temperature on your blow dryer. Your hair will be soft to the touch, getting natural shine and volume.
If you have oily hair, then get ready to learn the simplest solution ever! Boil a liter of water and dissolve two teaspoons of salt in it. As the water cools down a bit, use it while shampooing and wash it off at the end.

Don’t forget about the perfect manicure before going out!
Various shades of green and gray, as well as white, are in now.
In Italy the name of Diego Dalla Palma has long been synonymous with f lawless makeup. Since the 70’s he
has been giving the fairer sex precious tips on f lattering their assets and hiding blemishes. «I am sure femininity is worthy to be praised and highlighted
- for example, using bright red lipstick and extravagant hairstyles,» says Diego.
Would vibrant accents be good for summer when makeup is usually more natural and less visible? Let’s start with foundations. On hot summer days you’d better use multifunctional BB or CC creams (both types are presented in almost all cosmetic companies). It’s not so heavy textured as cream powder, and therefore it perfectly moisturizes your skin, making it smooth and shimmery. There are products for wrestling with the appearance of wrinkles, protection from the sun and hiding skin blemishes.
Instead of creams I advise using bronzers. As to eyes I opt for mascara or dark liner to make your look piercing. Using them both will make you a true femme fatale. Well, and the last touch is a simple lip gloss or lipstick of some vivid color.
Each season requires a special product that every girl should always have in her purse. What is the first thing to take with you this fall? Nail polish! Aquamarine, light
green, olive and pale gray as well as metallic gray and white are the best shades for the beach holidays.
If you want to look more extravagant, I advise to choose yellow, gold or orange polish. Red lovers won’t be disappointed as the classic red is still trendy. It is great for fair-skinned women and looks stunning on dark-skinned hands.
And for those who prefer bright shocking shades, I recommend trying electric blue, deep blue, purple, sapphire and indigo.
What about urban-style makeup? What do you need to look flawless during the workday and at evening parties? Choose bright colors that best highlight the tan - for example, orange eyeshadows or pearl and bronze hues. A brick-colored eye pencil will make your look more impressive. Draw a thin line under the lash line of the eyes. This trick is used by many Eastern women in order to create a more languid and sensual air.
To look elegant during the day, wear a pique dress. White, red, yellow, electric blue, green and pink are the key colors this season. Translucent and airy dresses, cotton crop trousers with a T-shirt, and veiling skirts with romantic blouses are not to be missed as well. Thin-heeled sandals would be a good match here. A low cut black dress looks
spicy in the evening. It is best matched with long pearl earrings and a bracelet. If you opt for bright colors, then choose turquoise together with white accessories. Put on jeans and a top, and add a pendant on a thin chain to get your casual outf it.
If you want to look more aggressive, wear a long gown with a cutout back. Do not forget the necklace! Remember it should «fall» back, showing off your bare
shoulders. Put on a wide metal bracelet as a final touch.
BEAUTY LAWSHow to get a stunning look for fall? Makeup artist and international beauty expert Diego Dalla Palma
knows the answer. An American icon, The New York Times, tagged him as the «Italian prophet of makeup». If you want to be on top then don’t be afraid of experimenting - Diego shares beauty secrets

BIOTHERM
NET EFFECTBiotherm has a special product -
PureFect Skin - 2 in 1 mineral clay mask. It’s perfect for
cleaning pores and removing deep dirt. Its high efficiency
is due to two components: a cleansing clay and a peeling
diatom’s extract. It works very delicately, without scratching
or damaging your skin.
1952 The history of Biotherm begins as Jeanine Marissal, biologist and pioneer, becomes the first to establish the brand and formulate the key principles of its philosophy.
1973 Biotherm launches the world’s first sunscreen with anti-aging effects.
1985Biotherm produces a skin care line for men. Their wrinkle eliminator and moisturizer with a tanning effect are among the new sensations.
2009Biotherm cooperates with the French automaker Renault. They worked together on the first spa car prototype - ZOE Z.E. (with zero emissions ). It is a 100% electric vehicle equipped with a spray fragrance by Biotherm with all the owner’s wishes considered.
FOR ANY TASTE AND COLOR
Miraculous Biotherm’s Oil & Tonic can be used in different ways. Spray
it on your skin after sunbathing to get a long-lasting suntan with dazzling
splendor. Furthermore, this product perfectly moisturizes your skin and has
a good absorbency, so you are ready to put on your clothes and hit the road
in a moment. There is another option available: add a bit of Oil & Tonic to hot
water and take a nice bubble bath.
BEAUTY FROM THE DEPTHSBiotherm is traditionally related to the sea. The first of the brand’s products contained a mysterious ingredient called « krenum «, which was a dried thermal plankton. It is notable that even many years along Biotherm still uses highly effective ingredients from the seabed. Furthermore, even the official logo reflects the power of the water element embodied in an illimitable wave.
PERFECT SHAPEOpening up new
horizons in the field of body care, Biotherm’s
laboratory experts have developed a light anti-cellulite gel Body
Sculpter which includes active ingredients that
make a body’s shape more accurate reducing
its volume. First of all, we need to mention sulfo-
carrabiose derived from a mix of different seakale extracts.
This ingredient has a powerful splitting action, making skin
visibly tightened.
BEAUTY DNA
NIGHT TRANSFORMER
Biotherm likes to surprise. That’s why its face and body care line is frequently refreshed with some new unique products. For example, the night serum oil, Blue Therapy, has become a real wonder. It transforms in three stages by direct skin contact: first, its texture resembles a light fresh gel, then
it looks like a nutrient serum, and finally
transforms into a warming oil that does not leave any sticky or greasy effects. Consequently, your skin becomes more elastic and tightened.

Essie Weingarten was among the f irst to give names to her nail polishes. Numbers are simple and boring, that’s why today Essie has; «Face Control is Not a
Problem», «Dive Headf irst», and a «Millionaire’s Wife» in her beauty arsenal.
Where do you get inspiration for new nail polish names?Everywhere. It is as spontaneous as the shades I create. The names of my nail polishes are always a pun, something funny and memorable. I think giving numbers is meaningless because nobody can remember it. Moreover we have too many numbers in our life: passwords, phone numbers, house and street numbers...
Are there any shades of polish that always remain in fashion?I believe no color can be in fashion constantly. You need to choose one that you really like, as well as a shape and length of the nails. As for me, neat and short nails are the best, and enormously long ones are good for glamour photo shoots only, not for life. But let me say
again it’s up to everyone. If you want to be on trend you had better follow the latest fashion shows. This year many gurus have played on a juicy and cheerful orange. I guess orange will f ind its fans in Russia, as Russian girls like bright and showy colors.
I remember 30 years ago a color palette of polishes was far from perfect. If the nail tech had 5 or 6 colors, you were supposed to be lucky. I didn’t like that. I need dozens of
polish shades - although hundreds would be even better.
What can be called the perfect manicure?Well-kept! All the nails should be straight, smooth and healthy. You need to remember two simple
rules to keep your nails beautiful. Firstly, remove a cuticle but never cut it as the more you cut it the more it grows.
Don’t forget to put a nail butter in your bag. Secondly, take a break during the application to get a long-lasting effect. Wait two minutes before applying the second layer of polish.

On the 14th of June the long awaited architectural forum has opened. The theme chosen by the curator Rem
Koolhaas is «Fundamentals» or «Basics». The exhibition offers to trace the way architecture has changed over the last 100 years. According to the promoters, a meaningful f lashback will help to envisage the future of art. It’s the f irst display devoted to architecture, not to certain architects’ creativity. Despite the fact that the Venice Biennale
has been around for over a century, the architectural line developed just 14 years ago. Since then the space for exhibition has been constantly expanding. It includes public gardens as well as the Old Arsenal.
The Monditalia pavilion has a full-wall screen projecting videos, photos and other images. This large screen somehow reflects Italy and the whole world through it along with its great achievements and mistakes.
Creators of this installation hint at the fact that lately we’ve been missing something really important. Film frames flash before
the visitors’ eyes reminding them of ancient Roman suburbs and Italian villages. Now let’s move to the other countries’ pavilions and start with the Celestial Empire. Here one can sip a cup of traditional Chinese tea f lipping through the books about major stages in the architectural development of this country. The hall decoration combines typical Asian style and hi-tech elements.
Part of the exhibition is devoted to Beijing. Visitors can see the 3D models of the capital’s seven districts, and the way they’ve been changing over time. >

In the Arab pavilion everyone can study booklets, which include 100 of the brightest architectural Art Nouveau projects located in Lebanon, Morocco and other eastern states.
In the matter of the Italian Hall, the curator Chino Zucchi decided to focus on the eclectic face of Milan. Constructions ranging from the Gothic Duomo to the modern skyscrapers in Porta Garibaldi came into his sight. The second part of the display is devoted to the development of modern architecture in the cities of high historical signif icance. This topic will be painstakingly considered during the world Expo-2015.
The central hall, «Biennale», presents a piece-wise look at the architecture where the ceiling, f loor, walls and windows are intentionally separated. By the way, the frames are worthy to be mentioned as they were specially brought to Venice from the English museum of windows.
The most controversial freestanding section is devoted to elevators, while the “Ladders” workshop is really interesting. This part of the exhibition comes out of the research and investigations conducted by Tim Nugent, an architect with disabilities.
Aside from the «Biennale» pavilion, which is the core of the exhibition, we advise to
visit the other sites, for example, the show spaces dedicated to the Nordic countries. The Russian spot allows you to follow all changes in the architectural look of the country and learn the design of historic buildings as well as modern constructions.
The Australian pavilion can be considered as the most technologically advanced one. Using a tablet you can consider 3D architectural projects in detail - not only completed ones, but also those at the design or construction stage.
The Israeli hall will astonish you with equipment. A special machine draws the main state buildings on the sand, then deletes them and starts anew.
The 14th Biennale can undoubtedly boast of rich and worthwhile content, especially of the Art Nouveau exhibition segment. Here you can mark the works of the Brazilian and Mexican architects that have successfully f it contemporary designs in the cities’ historical background.
While some countries have already found their architectural identity, Romania is still in search. Its pavilion presents things reflecting mainly the period through 1989, when the dictator Ceausescu was toppled. Architecture Biennale ends on November 23rd.

How do you create your works? I cover a shot with light and dark enamel, creating different shapes that interact with the image of an X-ray. Thus my work begins to live its own life. There is no clear outcome, because the process is endless, in other words, we have a “work in progress”. The mysterious entity of the snapshot merges with its man-made supplement.
Do you have any favorite themes and art objects? I have a wide range of interests including feudal Japan, ancient civilizations, mythology, mysterious phenomena and spirit animals. At the beginning of my
over everything else. I’d like to reach something like that. After my experience in the morgue I decided to try working with such a mysterious material as an X-ray. It’s a kind of life reflection within the human. A medical check-up reveals changes and mutations occurring in the body. Artwork performs the same function.
Today, scientists use X-rays in order to detect the first layers of paint on the canvas and pick up the artist’s idea as well as the changes he had made in the picture at different stages of work. So, for example, new brush strokes “killed” the old ones. I wanted to show the bottom side of things, using an X-ray as a symbol of art’s victory over death. Pictures show you something you cannot see with the naked eye.
10 years ago I won my first prize of Cortopotere Short Film Festival in Bergamo. This clip was a reflection on our relationships with the alter-ego.
Why did you start painting X-rays? How did you get this idea? I am a big fan of Gothic literature. Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein is one of my favorite characters. He is a demiurge trying to create a living being from a dead matter. An uncontrollable monster comes to life in the wake of mutation. Here creativity triumphs
How would you describe your work? It is very eclectic. I always try out and search for something new. The key word for me is “transformation”. Just as Antoine Lavoisier said, “Nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything is transformed”. My art is an attempt to “revive” the objects, giving them a new meaning and content.
At what moment did you realize that you would cast your lot with art? I started drawing when I was 4, and since then I’ve never put my brush aside. I also explore the world using a pencil, a camera and a video camera. These tools serve me as a filter. I guess an artist’s soul is restless and irrepressible. Perhaps that makes us see the world differently than others. Art is a way of communication that allows us to express our vision and mental mood. But everything has its price. We will hardly ever feel absolute happiness and harmony.
Where did you get your education? I studied at the Academy of Arts and always set up experiments.

work I used very strident colors. Now I interpret historical and social phenomena in an ironic manner. In my works the figures of women, athletes, soldiers, animals and cartoons interlace all the time.
What challenges do you face in work? The surface of the X-ray is quite difficult to apply an image or negative pattern to. The picture should strengthen a play of light and shade, creating a 3D effect. First, I use a draft, and then cover the picture with a quick drying enamel that leaves me no chance to think over or make any changes.
You set LEDs on your art. How did this idea occur to you? These devices make the enamel glow in
the dark. Figures of animals and people become more visible. Caimans, deer and gorillas get incredible shapes. Vital energy bursts out through the light flashes and the strokes seem to flutter in the light.
You often use animalistic images in your work... They embody human passions for me. I love nature and draw inspiration from its infinite wisdom and harmony. My paintings are mysteriously connected to the images of the human skeleton. Light helps to show the way we look inside, showing our perfection and extreme fragility at the same time.
In 2005 your clip became a Philips prize winner. What did this experience mean back then? In this clip a little girl, admitted to the hospital, uses a lamp and sheets to create a play of light and shadow. Suddenly, as if by magic, a picture of a polar bear holding a scarlet heart comes out of the X-ray film box. The baby hugs the bear and falls asleep. Meanwhile, the bear’s reproduction appears on the wall and seems to protect her from maladies.
I used the language of magic to talk about serious diseases and their treatment. And then an idea to use X-rays crossed my mind. The famous film director Pupi Avati, who presented the award to me, called my clip poetry. This experience became a kind of enlightenment for me.
What creators inspire you the most? I draw inspiration from various sources
including literature, cinema and travel. Then I gather all impressions, give them time to embody into more definite forms and see what happens next. My teachers are De Kooning, Bacon, Ensor, Munch, Pollock, Kentridge, Hurst, Schifano and Rembrandt. I try to adopt their methods of analysis and remaking reality.
You live in Bergamo. Is there still any place where you could create your works? I’d love to visit Japan. I’ve learned a lot about this country and would like to see it with my own eyes. This is a completely different world, infinitely distant from ours. Here you feel a total harmony between the long history and high technologies. I would also like to live in Florida or California in order to enjoy the sunsets,
climate and the incredible sky. I would admire the way millions of its shades disappear into the ocean. It is a perfect place to start a creative activity. Silent nature and its mysterious, infinite power encourage excellent inspirations.

Rome is very difficult to write and tell about. This city is boundless, so you need to be here to understand and feel it.
Italy’s capital is like a layer cake. Epochs have come and gone, leaving their indelible mark on the face of Rome. Many times famous directors were trying to catch the mood of the Eternal City. "Roman Holiday" with Audrey Hepburn, "The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone" with Vivien Leigh, "La Dolce Vita" by Fellini, and finally, "To Rome with Love" by Woody Allen – those are attempts to make a truthful and succinct portrait of the capital.
But there is always something elusive behind the scenes. Each time Rome has shown us its different faces, thus no matter how many times you come back here there is still something to amaze you.
Sometimes this chaotic, noisy and messy metropolis can put you out of temper. But, once you see another palace on your way, a church or an old square, all its faults slip away at once. The Vatican, the Coliseum, the Roman Forum, the Trevi Fountain, and the Jewish Quarter – you can’t remain indifferent to the architecture of the Eternal City! "Each building breathes history here, observing bustle and hustle with majestic
serenity," said art historian John Winkelman. The Palatine Hill, one of the seven hills the city spans across, offers stunning views of the Roman Forum and the Circus Maximus. Julius Caesar rising above the Imperial ruins on his pedestal seems to keep an eye on the city’s order.
Another majestic monument is the Victorian Palace (Vittoriano) in Piazza Venezia. It was erected in honor of the united Italy's first king, Victor Emmanuel II.
The main symbol of Catholicism is the Vatican and the Piazza San Pietro with its magnificent St. Peter's Basilica.
Day by day this creation of the great architect Giovanni Bernini attracts thousands of pilgrims and tourists from all over the world. The first hope to glimpse the Pope even for a moment, while the others wish to go to the famous Vatican Museums and see all the splendor of Michelangelo's wall-paintings in the Sistine Chapel with their own eyes.
Rome is a blend of baroque, renaissance, classicism, antiquity and the Middle Ages. It is melancholy and joy. It is Italy and the Vatican. Everything is mixed in the Eternal City, so one can hardly mark a dominant element as it is simply impossible.
ROMAN HOLIDAY GUIDE TO THE ETERNAL CITY
It seems little has changed in the capital of Italy since the Roman Empire. It is still the center of the world and the cradle of Western
culture. Every day thousands of tourists flock here in order to touch the history of this mysterious and magnificent city

Strolling along the Tiber river that runs through the city center you will find yourself in front of the Sant'Angelo Castel. At various times it has been a burial place of the emperors, a fortress, a treasury and a residence of the Popes. Nearby the Altar of Peace stands, constructed more than two thousand years ago. Being in this part of the city you definitely need to stop by the Villa Borghese, it is perhaps the most beautiful public garden in Rome.
If you are keen on walking, then visit the church of Trinita dei Monti, standing on top of the famous Spanish Steps with its 138 steps. You will need a little bit more time to get to the Trevi Fountain, one of the main symbols of Rome. Prepare a coin to throw into the water. Then, according to legend, you will certainly be back here.
If you still have some time, go to the ancient Roman Pantheon. It was conceived as a divine temple, but in the VII century it was turned into a Christian basilica called Santa Maria della Rotonda. Thus it gave name to the square where the Pantheon stands, the Piazza della Rotonda.
Only a few minutes away lies a rectangular square, the Campo dei Fiori, a place full of people and flowers (Campo dei Fiori in Italian means “flower field”). The Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli can be the last point of your route. Take a look on the floor as you enter, there a sundial and a meridian are embedded in the marble covering. As the sun goes down take a drive out to the sea that is only a few km away from the city. Lazing on the coast you will enjoy an Italian style vacation. Italy, as we know, begins in Rome.

ROMAN FORUMAlong with the Colosseum the Roman Forum was also a focal point of ancient Rome. Housing temples, courts, markets, boardrooms and open spaces surrounded by arcades, this is where the business of Rome took place. It was the commercial and administrative center of the ancient city. The Forum was not only the center of the capital, but, in a sense, of the whole empire of the Caesars. Here huge crowds gathered for celebrations, or to attend the triumphant processions of leaders who marched with prisoners chained, boasting their conquest. It was the official stage of the ancient, warring Roma, and, with Augustus Caesar, it was transformed into a symbol of Rome. It has had moments of abandonment, watched the rise and fall of the Roman Empire, silently stood by throughout all the achievements, sorrows and passions of its people. The Roman Forum is a monument where the bricks tell tales of majesty and the unspeakable, yet remaining hushed as this new dawn of its precious city tests its wings, flying once more into the future.
COLOSSEUMIn the heart of Rome lies the Colosseum, also known as the Flavian Amphitheater. This historic feat of architecture has become a symbol, of not only Rome but of Italy itself, and has joined the ranks of the New 7 Wonders of the world. The iconic stone and concrete elliptical amphitheater was the largest amphitheater of the Roman Empire, and is still considered one of the greatest works of Roman architecture and engineering. In its full glory it is estimated that it had the capacity to seat between 50,000 to 80,000 spectators. These spectators came near and far for a variety of interesting, and often times gruesome, entertainment events, such as: gladiatorial contests, mock sea battles, animal hunts, executions, re-enactments of famous battles, and dramas based on Classical mythology. The building ceased to be used for the fantastical to bone chilling shows in the early medieval era, later doing an about face and was re-purposed for housing, workshops, quarters for a religious order, a fortress, a quarry, and a Christian shrine. The conception and construction began under the emperor Vespasian in 70 AD, and was completed in 80 AD under his successor and heir, Titus. Further modifications were made during the reign of Domitian (81–96). These three emperors are known as the Flavian dynasty, and the amphitheater was named in Latin for its association with their family name, Flavius. It has been added as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1980. Today the Colosseum still lures visitors with its drama, history, and gravitas.

La Repubblica journalist Andrea Silenzi told us about his go-to places, where one can taste the real Roman cuisine. In fact, there are not so many tried-and-true restaurants in the
capital that offer traditional Roman cuisine. Probably Felice and Flavio al Velavevodetto are the right ones to choose. They offer the best price/quality ratio. Both are located in the famous Testaccio district, which locals often consider a separate city. Try a thin Roman pizza at Baffetto on Via Governo Vecchio. La Pratolina on Via degli Scipioni boasts 37 types of so-called pinsa – a sort of oblong and incredibly tasty pizza, which you will only find here.
I also recommend Roscioli on Via dei Chiavari that is close to the famous Campo de'Fiori. Here you can order a
"pizza al taglio" (sold in slices) as we say in Italy. Right away from there on Largo dei Librari stands an excellent fish restaurant Filettaro, serving the traditional Roman dish - baccala fillet with roasted squash blossoms.Casina Valadier on the Pincio terrace would be perfect for an aperitif as it offers stunning views of the entire city of Rome!

HOLY PLACE “The state within the state” lies in Rome, on the Monte Vaticano hill, and has its own flag, government, the Academy of Sciences, a newspaper and radio station. In old times the Vatican was not inhabited as people in ancient Rome considered it a holy place. In 326 the Basilica of Constantine was raised over the potential Saint Peter’s tomb. Since then, this place has become actively populated and now it is one of the most sought after spots.
FOUNT OF HISTORYThe Eternal City is a very ancient place and consequently one of the most visited destinations in the world. Rome’s historical heritage is striking in its scope, which includes the luxurious Vatican, the mysterious Forum, and the immortal Colosseum which evokes thoughts of the prosperous days of the Roman Empire. An opportunity to tap into the ancient civilization by purchasing apartments in the historic center or an old mansion is the fondest wish of many people, and it’s one of the best investments in diff icult economic times!
SUNNY PARADISERome is one of the sunniest cities in Europe, and that certainly affects our mood, leaving no chance to worry! The Tyrrhenian Sea coast and its cozy beaches with amber colored sand stretches out just half an hour away from Rome, as well as the sky blue Lake Albano with the Pope’s summer residence. Dolce Vita in sunny paradise!
ROMAN HOLIDAYS Would you like a “Roman Holiday”? Life is full of swing here, so you can focus on your “spiritual development” and
“material pleasures”, by visiting historical monuments and museums, or going shopping in Rome’s fashion quarter near Piazza di Spagna and trying something delicious in the cozy restaurants and cafes on the legendary via Veneto.
DOLCE VITA Do you want to experience a taste of the real “dolce vita” which literally takes your breath away? Something that brings a rush of emotions and delight of the surrounding beauty with the crazy energy of the city mixed in an unexpected blend of modernity and ancient times? Then welcome to Rome! The “bouquet” of this charismatic city is so rich, diverse and colorful, that you will crave to come and experience the feeling over and over again.

A DIFFERENT ITALYIt’s possible to truly get a feel for Sicily by
visiting its seaboard townships faded against the rocks, exploring its ancient ruins and enjoying its incredibly delicious desserts
Every day millions of people declare their love for Italy, from the chic city of Milan to the fabulous night life of Florence,
but in order to get the full impression of the country you’d better go southward and see the sun glaring f iercely and the sky blue waves splashing against the sea cliffs. Passions run high on the island as Sicily is the quintessence of Italy. The easiest way to get here is by taking a f light with a transfer in Milan in order to realize the sharp contrast between the north and the south when landing in Palermo. Smart residences and refurbished mansions give way to almost run-down petite houses and ancient palaces with plaster peeling off the walls. The air is f illed with different fragrances that f loat in the summer heat, bringing the scent of laundered linens
hanging on clotheslines between the houses, freshly baked sweets and peace.
Famous dolce niente da fare became a cult in Sicily and is handed down from one generation to another. The leisurely pace of life means that long-lasting dinners slipping into suppers are a given, liters of limoncello stored up for years to come and long detailed conversations color the days here.
Both northern Italians and Europeans come here to relax, even though laying on the beach and doing nothing seems impossible given the amount of activities that are available here. There is a mix of different cultures that have influenced this area; from classical Greek, Byzantine, Arabic and even Norman. History bursts from every stone here, hiding behind the ruins and

expectantly awaiting its explorers in the fabulous museums. Climb Etna and take a shot of its steaming top if the gods are smiling on you. Starting your way in Palermo, don’t miss Catania where the baroque architecture meets a famous fish market. Every Sunday at 5:30am most of Sicily comes here to discuss the latest news until 11:00 while buying fresh fish, octopus and other seafood. Moving forward on your excursion, pop into the pleasant towns and villages discovering true gems along the way. For instance, visiting the medieval Erice, while standing on the hill you will get a breathtaking view of the opposite side of the Mediterranean coast as the land of Tunisia is revealed to you. The fabulous Taormina seems to be a different world due to its rocky coast line, sandy bays and sky blue sea waves lapping against the shore.
Almost every evening in the summer the ancient amphitheater which is located here hosts spectacular concerts. You will feel the power of the music when you hear it live. The local palazzos were the favorite places for relaxation for Winston Churchill, while Goethe and David Lawrence praised Taormina in their eternal masterpieces.
A fishing village in the neighborhood called Cefalu is Taormina’s rival. The snow white houses, literally standing on the waterline, and brightly colored fishing boats rocking on the waves became the symbols of both Cefalu and Sicily. You can come here for an hour or spend the entire holiday here, hanging around small streets and chatting with locals who total less than a thousand. The local cuisine is, of course, a special topic - we are still in Italy! You can try whatever you like, from “fast food” arancini (roasted rice balls with mozzarella and meat) to the richly flavored summer caponata (eggplants stewed with onion and tomatoes). Cultural integration can be found within the dishes; Arabic spices and Italian cheeses, hundreds of seafood
dishes, and thousands of kinds of desserts. It can be felt in the simple and delicious granita, the sophisticated frutta martorana sweets, and the round shaped buccellato pies.
Italy is worthy of being loved as every journey discloses a new side, revealing fresh fragrances and flavors, while keeping the kindness and hospitality of its people that it is so well known for.
It is impossible to have a quick snack in Sicily. You will easily give up excursions for superb restaurants
The most beautiful way to explore the coast line of Sicily is, of course, by boat, sailing past villages and enjoying the freshness of the Mediterranean

PORTOFINO, THE YACHT CLUB OF THE MEDITERRANEAN SEAVis à vis with Giovanni Copello, owner of the most exclusive yacht location in Italy INTERVIEW: Valerio VENTURI, PHOTO: Giovanni COPELLO
Tim Thomas, editor of Boat International, wrote in Forbes magazine the article, “Where Billionaires Choose To Dock: The World’s Most Expensive Arenas”. The rich? They like Portofino, which “was once a small fishing village and has only one road in and out, which
incidentally is usually closed, allowing the area to remain unspoiled. Arguably one of the prettiest harbours out there, Marina di Portofino is where only the wealthiest can afford. It has only 14 berths maximizing the privacy and therefore the exclusivity of the marina. If you get a spot, expect to mingle with the likes of Steven Spielberg (owner of the yacht Seven Seas), Coldplay frontman Chris Martin and pop singer Rihanna. It is also a favorite spot for Russian billionaire Andrey Melnichenko, owner of the 119 metre Philippe Starck-designed superyacht A.”

This paradise for VIP’s is realized by the work of Giovanni Copello, owner of the Yatch Club Portofino and Carmelo Carluzzo. “My dream was to open the best yacht club in Italy and for everyone to be able to share in my dream. By day the club is open to yacht members only, giving captains, owners and crew a space to relax and enjoy themselves.
We have inside and outside seating areas facing the harbour, a bar stocked with the finest drinks and the fastest WiFi in Portofino. Non-members can visit as long as they are invited, and pay a small fee of course. By night the club is open to all, adding to the evening offer in the area and making Portofino ‘the destination’ to go to outside of Genoa itself.”
What is the story of Yacht Club Portofino? It is a project which began seven years ago generated by the meeting of two of the families of Portofino; the family Carluzzo, owner of the renowned restaurant “Delfino” and the equally important restaurant “Pitosforo”; and the family of Giovanni Copello, one of the ship’s agent at the local harbor. The Copello’s were also the owners of all of the image rights (social networks, internet, etc. ..) of the brand “Portofino Yacht Club”. During a normal working dinner at the “Pitosforo”, was

born the idea to transform the said restaurant into a clubhouse destined to become the Yacht Club.
What services do you offer at the Club? The Yacht Club Portofino is not only limited to providing the standard services to its members, as do all the yacht clubs in the world, but also an “open” part to the commanders of all the boats in transit in the port in order to support the needs, the “whims and vices” of a market without any rules and restrictions.
The services of the Club House are for members ranging from the possibility of exclusive personal use (for support in case of meetings, business meetings, etc. ..) to the organization of events, soirees, and regattas. You can also use the car for the exclusive use of the Yacht Club and enjoy all the privileges worthy of a yacht club of this level.
How is it possible to become a member? You must be invited by the founders or buy the card at the Yacht Club Portofino. There are two types of cards: the first, the “black”, has a value of 900 euros; the second, the
“platinum” cost 5000 euros instead. All are valid for one year, but for the current year the promotion will expire 12/2015.

Of course, it is not a secret that the city, hosting Expo 2015 (with nutrition among its top points) is a real Mecca for foodies. Milan has everything, from
gourmet restaurants to star chefs’ workshops. Start the evening with a quick drink at Bulgari’s luxury hotel bar (Via Fratelli Gabba, 7 / b), offering an array of rare wines accompanied with royal shrimp,

Then move on, choosing one of the Japanese restaurants for an exotic seafood menu - for example, Nobu Armani (Via Pisoni, 1) featuring a perfect mix of sushi, sashimi, tempura, oysters and carpaccio; Zen Sushi (Via Maddalena, 1); or Hama (Via Raffaello Sanziom 4), each favorite oriental culinary hot spots. Your glass of excellent white wine will probably be accompanied with pickled rockfish and mandarins, “hairy” mussels, octopus salad with potatoes and a number of raw, hot and pickled fish dishes.
MERCATO ITTICO OF MILAN (via Lombroso, 95)Is one of the largest in Europe and selling more than 150 species of fish. Cuttlefish, octopus, crab, rockfish, prawns, scallops – it is impossible to remember the whole list. The catch is brought not only from Italy, but all countries from Norway to Morocco supply the market with fish. At 4am as the market opens people line up to
buy fresh seafood, including 70% of the newly caught fish. The main customers of the market are stores and restaurants. Most wholesalers come here several times a week in order to fill their counters up before meeting the customers. Once a week, locals and tourists can come here. The market is open for them on Saturdays from 9:30 to 11:30am.

APERITIF HAUTE COUTUREBoth clothes and restaurants can be branded. Here is our list of the most fashionable places in Milan, where you can relax in style and meet famous designers
If you have already been there, then Marc Jacobs’ café is next to visit (marcjacobs.com). It is the f irst bar designed by the fashion Maison, where you’re welcomed to a brunch or «f inger food»-style aperitif. High-priced and narrow-optioned, it allures with its location in Piazza Carmine.
In Corso Venezia 15, stands an open Martini bar (www.dolcegabbana.com/martini/), by Dolce & Gabbana. Passing through the brand’s boutique, you will f ind yourself in a cozy garden with a bistro. Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana often pop in here as well as the other fashion industry residents.Café Trussardi (www.cafetrussardi.it) in Piazza della Scala is known for its excellent cuisine.
constant guests of this posh spot as well as those who crave for fame. It’s f illed to the brim during the «happy hour» aperitifs and as the fun starts late in the evening. Despite the presence of people bearing VIP status and Cavalli’s famous name, the club always has a friendly atmosphere.
Armani’s big fans would certainly appreciate the brand’s self named café (armaniristorante.com) in Via Croce Rossa. It reflects the designer’s style, offering a pleasant dinner in the midst of elegant interiors.
If you want something unusual, then pop into the Ceresio 7 rooftop bar’s terrace (www.ceresio7.com), designed by Dsquared2. It offers stunning views of the entire city of Milan as well as an outdoor pool.
It’s not a secret that Milan is a global center for high fashion. All prestigious brands’ headquarters as well as the best showrooms and
boutiques are located here. But it may be news to many that in such a metropolitan city one can also have a fashionable breakfast or aperitif. Famous designers take their creative expertise in the decoration of trendy bars and restaurants. Some locations offer not only great cuisine and admirable interiors, but also a chance to dance at your pleasure.
Let’s start with Just Cavalli (milano.cavalliclub.com). Perhaps it is the most famous fashion-club in Milan. It takes a symbolic stand next to the Triennale Design Museum. Celebrities are the T

The place is particularly popular among the Italians during a lunch break or aperitif. The great location of the restaurant is highly appreciated by the tourists as well. It stands right away from the La Scala Theatre, the Passage, and the Duomo.
Italian sweets lovers are advised to try Cova’s cakes, the famous Milanese confectionery that is located on the most fashionable street in the city, Via Montenapoleone. Not so long ago, the sweet-shop was acquired by the French company LVMH.
If you want to have a snack while shopping, you’d better do it in the Food Hall gallery of the La Rinascente shopping center offering breathtaking views of the Duomo.
And f inally, French champagne lovers will be pleased with the wine list at La Champagnerie (lachampagnerie.it), which is right away from the Repubblica metro station. Here you can try the best of the best - from Ruinart to Dom Perignon.

MARSALA, AN ENGLISH LOVEThe Sicilian sweet wine has a long history. Exploited by the British, used for
decades in the preparation of pastries, it is now a great sipping wine for aperitifs and after-dinner drinks
TEXT: Dario VENTURI, PHOTO: courtesy of press offices
Marsala is undoubtedly one of the most famous Italian liqueur wines. Produced in Sicily, it began its legendary story in 1773. At that
time the English merchant John Woodhouse landed at the port of Marsala and had the opportunity to taste the excellent local wine, which was aged in wooden barrels and took a taste similar to the “Porto”, which at this time was very famous in the United Kingdom.Woodhouse decided to load fifty barrels aboard his ship and added it with spirits of wine in order to increase the alcohol content and preserve its characteristics during the long sea voyage. That inexpensive Sicilian wine was a great success, so much so that
Woodhouse decided to return to Sicily and began production and marketing. In 1833 the entrepreneur Vincenzo Florio from Palermo, began the production of Marsala wine in competition with the British companies and founded the Florio winery. He was so successful that one day Florio acquired the competitor, becoming the main producer. Then other local producers began to operate over a few decades and Marsala wine was established throughout the country. Now this wine, the first “doc” of the history of Italian wine, is especially prevalent in the the amber versione (there is also a ruby one), made from the grapes of Grillo, Catarratto, and Inzolia. Many qualities are available.
There is the Marsala Vergine, that is at least 5 years old, and the Marsala Vergine reserve, of 10 years of age. Then there are the most commercial variants of Marsala: “Fine”, “Superiore” and “Superiore Riserva”; these are 1, 2 or 4 years old respectively. The designation
“Dry”, “Semi-dry”, and “Sweet” refers to the differing sugar contents of the bottles. How can you enjoy this interesting Sicilian masterpiece which tastes sweet yet isn’t cloying, with a rich aroma, and the flavor of almonds? Traditionally it is used for cooking, however, it is excellent as an aperitif or to accompany an array of desserts including the rich chocolate varieties. Try the “Riserva”!

Terre Arse is a refined and eclectic Marsala. It is excellent as an aperitif or paired with smoked fish and hard cheese of medium flavor. It’s perfect
for social occasions. Harmonious, with an aristocratic background of
vanilla and licorice.

With a beautiful shade of amber, this Marsala offers intense aromas with a great finesse that is composed of a hint of vanilla,
burnt honey and roasted hazelnuts. The flavor is dry, warm and lively with hints of almond and licorice root. Balanced, the
scent offers woody notes.

COCKTAIL PARTY FASHION&BEAUTY As a new issue was released, Fashion & Beauty lived it up among friends and partners. In late June the representatives of Italian brands, buyers, members of the Italian-Russian Chamber of Commerce, and bloggers gathered at the posh Baglioni hotel. Guests were discussing their prospects sipping Prosecco. For the occasion publisher Elena Bugranova organized a lottery with prizes. Those who weren’t so fortunate as to win still didn’t go home empty-handed as the magazine’s partner, Martini, gave out lovely gifts to the guests on their way out. A night of fun and revelry for everyone.

BLOOMSBURY THE “IT” BAGBurberry Prorsum made its fall/winter debut on the London runway with a new bag, the “Bloomsbury”. After last summer’s success of the “Petal Bag”, this is the new “It” bag of the brand. A rigid accessory, in a rounded shape and a single handle. It is presented in many different variations of colors and textures, from applications and tone-on-tone to abstract designs, and from hand-painted flowers to geometric patterns, making for a really unique and outstanding statement. It reflects, in the best way, the purely romantic and creative vision of the head designer Christopher Bailey.
