Alcuni aspetti potrebbero essere obsoleti al momento della lettura data la velocità con cui FB sviluppa sempre nuove features. We made this guide for our clients when Facebook announced the new Timeline for brands. It's easy but useful. Some parts could be no longer valid when you read this as FB keeps on innovating everyday.

Timeline for brands is available from February, 29th and it will be mandatory on March, 30th. What’s new
• Cover and milestones • New tabs • Admin panel • Private messages • Real time insights • New advertising formats
Admin Panel
The admin panel is on the top of the page, before the cover image. With the panel it is possible to see notifications, private messages, latest fans of the page, insights and create a new post. The admin can manage all the aspects of the page in the same screen.

Brand Timeline
This bar allow users to explore your previous posts by year and month.
Cover image. Without landing pages, it’s the first impact with new visitors.
The new space for page tabs. Only 4 tabs are highlighted and you can have 8 more tabs for a total of 12.
The right column is dedicated to special boxes that contain page’s activities, page’s likes and the public wall.
Left column is for posts. The orange marker indicates the "pinned" post, a post that is always on the top.
Highlighted post has a double column width.

Milestones
Every time you want to make a new post (photo, video, link, text) there’s a “watch” icon (bottom-‐left) that allows to set the date of the Timeline where this post will appear. Milestone (“book” icon on top right) allows to add an important post related to the brand, for instance the foundation or the 1000th product sold. Milestones have a “flag” marker on the Timeline.
The opportunity to write in the past is very interesting and it offers different solutions in terms of user engagement. See the two following examples.

Privare Message Users can send a direct message to the brand, asking for help or infos. The botton is over the tab icons.
The composition screen is the same of the messaging between users:
New York Times has 150 years of history: they’ve followed the most important events of the century. Their Timeline is full of images from the past like the first page the day after of the Titanic sinking.
Red Bull has organized a "treasure hunt" in its Timeline. Everything starts on the foundation, there's a can with a date: 15-‐04-‐09. Then every post hides an hint to the next step. Who will find for first the final post of the game will win a snowboard.

Admins can read and answer easily through the admin panel on the top of the Timeline.
Tabs Tabs are now wider and are no longer included on the page desing. They have a dedicated space. It is now possible to realize tabs with a great graphic impact, but at the same time users should have a "reason" to open them due to the new ambient: contests become even more relevant than before and content tabs should focus on the user's "experience". It is possible to change the logo of a tab. Landing pages are no longer supported, so non-‐fans land on the Timeline. Old tabs:

New types of advertising
1 – The classical ad on the right of every Facebook page. Now it doesn't show a promotional text + image but it promotes a single post of your brand page. 2/3 – Ads and sponsored stories can be listed on the news feed on the home page. This option is very interesting in its Mobile version, because before now it was not possible to advert on Facebook mobile, that is used every day by 300 millions users. 4 – The log-‐out experience is a big advertising that appears on the log-‐out screen. Reach Generator – Every Facebook post reaches the 16% of the page’s fan. Withe the Premium package called “Reach Generator” will be possible to reach the 75-‐80% of your fans in a month.

And now? 5 Timeline first steps!
1. Timeline will be mandatory by March, 30th. Don’t wait until that date, you have a lot to prepare and set-‐up.
2. Without landing tabs, your cover is very important: it’s the first thing that a non-‐fan sees about you. It should be nice, but it should also communicate your brand.
3. Fill your Timeline! It’s a great occasion for creating a “visual narration” of your
brand history and its milestones.
4. Take advantage of the new tab ambient to realize something new.
5. Before publishing your Timeline be sure that all the configuration are set:
cover, informations, right column boxes (pages you likes, public wall, ecc.), tabs order (you can show just the first four).
