Hi my name is Zulakha Asif. I am a 1st yr Civil engineering student. I am a home student. Let me know if you have any
questions.
What are the Engineering facilities like at City?
Is it worth applying for a masters degree beforehand or is it better to wait?
What are the Engineering facilities like at City?
The facilities are amazing here. There is a wind turbine for those that do civil and many other wonderful facilities.
There will be a video soon so keep an eye out!
Is it worth applying for a masters degree beforehand or is it better to wait?
Yes, you can apply for the MEng route. This is also helpful if you wish to become a Chartered Engineer. If you
don't get the qualifications for the MEng you may beable to enter the BEng route and then transfer to MEng after
the 2nd Year of BEng if 65% overall is obtain.
Will be doing biomedical engineering from September and I've heard that while all your other engineering courses are
great there isn't much importance pit into the biomedical side of the course and it just feels more like EEE. Can ypu
comment on that
Is it difficult studying as a home student? Also what accommodation facilities are there at at City University?
Is it worth it going for the student finance?

Hi, I have currently applied to the engineering course and been accepted. I was wondering if I could start in the last
year due to have completed a HND in general engineering last year.
I applied for engineering (hlOl) this year. I was wondering does this course provides a general vision of engineering
and whats the main differences between the other engineering majors.
Just want to ask how is engineering at city university and the course itself
Is it worth it going for the student finance?
I suggest you contact the student loans company, as the application will depend on your personal ci rcu
msta nces.
What is the student finance like here?
Hi, I've applied for the biomedical engineering course. Are there tutorial groups? what size are they?
Hi, I have currently applied to the engineering course and been accepted. I was wondering if I could start in the last
year due to have completed a HND in general engineering last year.
We do not have final year entry .
I applied for biomedical engineering with a placement year. Can i know more about what students will expect in their
placement year? Will there still be lectures and sessions in the university then?
Is it difficult studying as a home student? Also what accommodation facilities are there at at City University?
Personally I don't find it difficult. You can check out our accommodation page for more information!

Just want to ask how is engineering at city university and the course itself
The engineering course is amazing as you get to study all types of engineering in the 1st year. It really helps in
open your mind out to what else is out there in the engineering sector. City university also has really good
engineering facilities especially for civil engineering. Do keep any eye out for the video about the facilities .
Hi, I applied for the mechanical engineering course back in November but I have not received a offer. When am I likely
to hear back?
It's nice to hear that civil engineering branches out to other engineering sectors
what type of wind tunnels do you have in the department, sub-sonic , super-sonic, hyper-sonic ?

Hi, I've applied for the biomedical engineering course. Are there tutorial groups? what size are they?
Yes, you will be put in a tutorial which is important to the course. There is on average around 20 students per
tutorial group
When will the tutorial groups take place exactly?
Hi Zulakha, what are the lectures and lessons like in this particular subject?
Is it possible for higher education students to start a course in the second year due to the modules they have
completed prior.

ypu comment on that
The thing to consider here is that Biomedical Engineering is actually an application of Electrical & Electronical
Engineering, so naturally there will be a lot of overlap between the courses, particularly in the early years. You can
compare the modules offered on our course pages on the website. More details on the department and our areas of
expertise can be found here: https://www.city.ac.uk/department-electrical-electronicengineering

How is the first year of engineering
The first year of Engineering covers a range of modules from all disciplines and there's plenty of group work and lab
throughout the year!
What are lectures and lessons like?
When will the tutorial groups take place exactly?
You will have them every week!

I have a passion for cars, and I want to work with cars when I am older. How would City be able to help me with this?
I applied for engineering (hlOl) this year. I was wondering does this course provides a general vision of engineering
and whats the main differences between the other engineering majors.
The main difference is that this course is a more general course and covers aspects of Civil, Mechanical and Electrical
engineering courses. Full breakdown of the modules can be found on our course page on the website:
https://www.city.ac.uk/courses/undergraduate/engineering-beng. The great thing about studying engineering at City
is that the first year is common, therefore if there is an area of the course that you particularly enjoy, provided you
have done well enough, you can change your course to one of the more specialised engineering degrees from the 2nd
year onwards.
BEng (Hons) Engineering
The BEng (Hons) Engineering degree at City, University of London prepares multidisciplinary engineers for an
exciting career in computational design and analysis.
What are the lectures and lessons like in this particular subject?
In the 1st yr the lectures are with everyone. So, you cover all the basics for all engineering degrees. There are around 6
modules are that covered in the 1st year. You can find more about on the website:
https://www.city.ac.uk/subjects/engineering
The lessons are called tutorials. You are in a class with around 15/20 students with a lecturer. They will help you with
any questions you may have.
The lectures and tutorials both happen once a week. My lectures are 2hrs long and the tutorials are 1hr. Hope that
helps!

It may be possible but we have a common Part 1 and you would need to have met the entry requirement of about
65% overall PLUS completed the modules we provide in Part 1
I have a passion for cars, and I want to work with cars when I am older. How would City be able to help me with this?
City has an amazing mechanical department. They have many opportunities for those are interested in cars. They
have a Formula 1 Racing team, which you can get involved in. This website might help:

what do you think sets City's engineering courses apart from other universities?
I'd say there are six main things I think that make City stand out:
1) Location - we are in the heart of London with great links to industry.
2) Facilities - we have state-of-the-art facilities
3) Opportunity to do placements alongside study
4) Accreditation from relevant awarding bodies, fulfilling the primary stages of gaining chartership in your chosed
field.
5) Opportunity to complete an integrated Masters degree and finishing with an MEng.
6) Common first year - flexibility in transferring courses after your first year. Also having the opportunity to move
between BEng and MEng based on performance.
Hi, I looked up the modules of biomedical engineering and i realised city doesn't offer prosthetics, tissue engineering
and one or two other modules. I just want to ask is it possible that they might introduce it to the program in the
coming years
Besides studying engineering, does city provides social clubs for different areas of interests.
How many students will there be per class ?
Thank you, I will be sure to drop you an email. What kind of placements are offered at City University? Are they closely
interlinked with the course you study?
What are lectures and lessons like?
The lectures are based in a lecture hall with all engineering students in the 1st year. They take place once a week. For
me they are 2 hrs long with a 10 min break in between. This 2hrs per module.
The lessons are a group of 15/20 students in a classroom with a lecturer. The lecturer will go through the questions
that you need to do after the lecture. For me this is 1hr each week. This is 1hr per module.
Hi Aathavan, I have already received an unconditional offer from Kingston University, so I could get a place there

Hello!! If I've applied to do a BEng in Aerospace engineering, how easy is it to upgrade to an MEng while on the course?
what academic support is available outside of lectures, are staff accessible?
Lecturers have a time slotted for students to approach them with any issues they have. This is known as Office Hours.
You also have time to ask them during the tutorial session.
Do City have any good links with employers?
Hi, I looked up the modules of biomedical engineering and i realised city doesn't offer prosthetics, tissue engineering
and one or two other modules. I just want to ask is it possible that they might introduce it to the program in the
coming years
Due to how specific this query is. I would advise you getting in touch with the department via Qg:
smcse@city.ac.uk and they should be able to get back to you soon.
Hello!! If I've applied to do a BEng in Aerospace engineering, how easy is it to upgrade to an MEng while on the
course?
As long as you meet the academic requirements (2:1) overall in your Second year there should be no problem of
moving to MEng from BEng!
What sort of challenges do you have to do on this course?
Labs and lab reports can be challenging if your theory is weak, but they are rewarding in the sense that you can
apply your knowledge to 'real' things! Also keeping up with tutorials every week can also be quite demanding.
What are the practical modules like at City?
Does City have many links with aerospace engineering related companies?
We do have links with Aerospace Engineering related companies. In the past we've had students work with Airbus,
DHL Air UK, British Airways, Delphi and EDF Energy.
