StEP 1
Before you start, ensure the temperature of the gelcoat, tools and working area is between 15
and 25˚C (ideally 21˚C). Prepare the plug by applying wax, following the procedure recommended
by the release agent supplier (Chemtrend or SPC). Apply the tooling gelcoat of BÜFA Gelcoat
Plus to a thickness of 600 and 800 microns in two layers (minimum 500 microns in the first layer).
Gelcoats can be applied by brush or spray but should be catalysed by 2% of MEKP22.
StEP 2
After the gelcoat is sufficiently cured, the next step is to apply the tooling resin from DSM
Composite Resins, catalyzed with 2% of MEKP catalyst. This gelcoat layer is followed by a layer
of surfacing tissue. Take care to remove any air voids. Back-up with six layers of CSM3 (300 g/m2)
or alternatively four layers of 450 g/m2 which are impregnated with the tooling resin. Ensure all air is
removed, taking extra care with the first layers.
StEP 3
The laminate will turn milky white upon reaching its peak exotherm, after which it will cool down
again. Then apply four layers of 450 g/m2 CSM wet-on-wet (alternative 6 layers of 300 g/m2).
Consolidate thoroughly between the layers. If necessary, continue to build up layers of 4x450 g/m2
(or 5 mm) until the required thickness is reached. This will depend on the specific mould require-
ments and the demands during its service life.
StEP 4
Apply any supports/stiffeners to the mould and leave to cure for 16-24 hours in a warm area
before separating from the pattern. For a super-durable system it is recommended to post-cure
the mould for 24 hours at 60˚C to extend the service life of the mould.
StEP 5
Carefully release the mould after it has cooled down to room temperature. After the mould has
fully cured, it should be polished with a fine polishing compound. Subsequently, the mould
should be cleaned and sealed with a mould sealer. After sealing, wax the mould with a Honey
Wax or a Semi-permanent release agent.

Non VOC (rtm process)
The technical details of all sustainable products can be found in the green section of each related product categories
From processing technique …
RTM or Resins Transfer Moulding is a closed
mould technique used to produce composite
parts in a sustainable, cost-effective way with
a high part-to-part consistency.
Compared to hand lay-up or spray-up
applications, the RTM process allows a
relatively high production speed with good
surface quality on both sides while the
emission of VOC’s are minimized. Currently
applied by many leading OEM producers, the
RTM light processing technique is suitable
for a very wide range of applications, ranging
from under-body shields to exterior body
panels.
RTM and RTM light allows composite part
producers to produce GRP parts that have
less weight, less waste and low VOC emis-
sion with lighter moulds and thereby contrib-
uting to meet tough sustainability targets.

Whoever it was that said that beauty is only
skin deep certainly had a point. the same
is true for Gelcoats, as a thin layer of only
400-600 microns is all that it takes to make
the difference between a perfectly smooth
glossy surface and an imperfect one.
today’s ever increasing demands on
performance and aesthetics makes the
selection of the right gelcoat a crucial one.
the premium product range of BÜFA
Gelcoat Plus covers all your spray and
brush application requirements. BÜFA
gelcoats are characterized by excellent
wet properties, such as quick air release,
easy flow, good wetting of the mould and
optimal thixotropic properties to prevent
sagging on vertical surfaces.
Properties like higher osmosis resistance,
uV-resistance and improved weather-
ability, will give your composite material
a head start in the industry.

Superior bonding performanceto imagine the scope and potential of
modern composite materials, consider the
wind industry. Powered by huge blades,
turbines now stand in some of the windiest
locations in the world, often at heights up
to 60 meters. Now imagine the strengths
such a blade needs to resist the forces of
nature in these conditions.
Superior bonding performance is certainly a
must for large wind turbines. Using the know-
ledge gained in the wind industry, Euroresins’
high quality bonding paste range is designed
to provide solutions for industries such as ma-
rine, transport, automotive and construction.
These bonding solutions do not only stand out
because of superior bonding strength, but are
highly effective because of their ease of use
and application.
BÜFA bonding pastes are based exclusively
on high-grade, reactive resins that have been
especially selected for high quality adhesives
and can be delivered both as flexible or
pigmented bonding paste. In accordance with
the demanding requirements of the applica-
tion area they are used in; bonding pastes can
further be formulated to a low density to allow
sandwich-like bonding constructions, with low
shrinkage effects.
the BÜFA pigment pastes do not contain any
mercury, lead, cadmium or chromates (Cr VI). As
opposed to dyes, these pigments are not soluble
in application mediums or water, as well as most
solvents, acids and lyes.

reinforcement Materials
light weight, chemical inertia and high
mechanical properties in the correct orienta-
tion are the key elements when selecting
reinforcement materials for demanding
application areas, such as the development
of mono ski’s or building bridges.
Glass fiber is the most commonly used
reinforce ment material, since it has excellent
mechanical properties and it is readily available.
To be combined with the right selected resins,
the glass fiber can either be applied as direct
roving, spray-up roving, woven roving, chopped
strand mat, continuous filament mat or non
crimp fabrics.
For any industrialized application, such filament
winding, pultrusion, infusion and RTM (light) or
when superior mechanical properties, orien-
tation in a particular direction and excellent
application properties are needed, Euroresins
offers premium quality Direct Rovings, Woven
Rovings, Continuous Filament Mats and Non-
Crimped Fabrics.

Perfection from the core
Sandwich Constructions and Core MaterialsAdditional strength and stiffness of
composite parts that is often demanded
in application areas such as Marine or
Building & Construction can be achieved
by adding a core material between two
reinforcement layers. the greater the
distance achieved by the core materials,
the better the stiffness of the finished part.
Today, these stronger and thicker sandwich
constructions are increasingly used in prefer-
ence to multi-ply laminates, as lighter weight
and cost effectiveness are key value drivers
for customers.
Euroresins offers both core materials for thin
laminates which need to be impregnated with
resins, as well as range of core material foams
for bigger laminates to suit individual customer
requirements, such as flame, smoke and
temperature requirements, impact resistance,
chemical resistance and many others.

Caring for your mould
the moment a GRP part is released from
the mould to display a perfectly smooth
surface can be one of great excitement.
On the other hand, the time and expense
incurred by the discovery of surface imper-
fection represents a considerable impairment
for your business. Fortunately, surface quality
risk can be mitigated by the correct protection
and preparation of the mould prior to its first
layer of gelcoat.
Euroresins’ product range features release
agents with unique properties in premium
waxes and semi-permanents and effective
sanding and polishing pastes to ensure the
perfect surface of your mould or part.
