Script1. The first radio broadcast will feature a female reporter, Jenna Spiece (FR), a male police officer, Henry Jenkins (MP) and Toby’s therapist, Doctor Olivers (DR O). This broadcast will be roughly three minutes long. Because it is the first broadcast, it won’t be very long, roughly 4 minutes.
- And now for the news-FR: A 24 year old female has died in a car accident in Denver, USA. Lyra Rogers died at the scene, with shards of glass and late exposure to the airbag leaving the young female with fatal injuries. Her Sibling, Toby Rogers was also injured but was born with congenital insensitivity to pain, or CIPA, a rare genetic disorder where the body does not feel pain. The young man has now recovered and is doing well. Henry Jenkins, a police officer working on the case, reports.
MP: We are currently working with any witnesses of the accident regarding Lyra Rogers to gain a clearer understanding of what happened that day, and get an answer for the Rogers family. We are not yet sure of the cause but are working closely with partners to find a reason behind what happened, and again, lead the Rogers family to a clear explanation. FR: Dr Olivers, a counsellor from Denver who has been working closely with the family, also explained to us the importance of support and help mentally when faced with traumas such as this one for young people.DR O: This particular incident has allowed myself, as a therapist, to highlight the importance of receiving help and support for young people when incidents like this occur. Toby Rogers was expected to face this with only his parents but that most certainly should not be the case. After beginning to show multiple common signs of antisocial personality disorder, also known as APD, we have learned that young people definitely do not receive enough help and support immediately after incident’s such as this. FR: With thanks to Henry Jenkins and the Denver police department and Doctor Olivers from the Denver psychology clinic.
2. The second radio broadcast features Jenna Spiece, the news reporter, Henry Jenkins, the police officer, a second reporter, Lucas Thompson (MR) and an eyewitness, the neighbour of the house where the father was stabbed (EW). Because this is breaking news, this report will be slightly less formal, as it won’t have been as strictly planned out as other reports. This report will be the longest, about 5 minutes long as it contains lots of factual information and interviews.
- Breaking News -
FR: In the last two hours, police have been called to a fatal stabbing in Denver, USA, where it is rumoured that a young man has stabbed his father multiple times before leaving the scene of the crime. BBC reporter Lucas Thompson is currently in the area. So Lucas, what’s the current situation over in Denver?MR: Hello Jenna, so yes, as you said a young man, the sibling of Lyra Rogers who tragically died in a car accident merely a few days ago is rumoured to have stabbed his father multiple times and has escaped the scene of the crime unseen. Police are currently unaware of his whereabouts, he was seen was by his mother wearing a dark hoodie, jeans and converse and is expected to be covered in considerable amounts of blood. FR: We’ve also heard that he left followed by a trail of flames, is this correct?MR: Well witnesses have said they saw Toby moving into the Woodland nearby, however police are currently investigating this area as well as the scene of the crime and are yet to confirm this. I have a witness with me here, this is Kate Miles. So Kate, what can you tell me about tonight?EW: I live next door to the Rogers and Toby was always a very pleasant body, regardless of his ticks. Tonight seems completely random for him.MR: And did you see the fire he was rumoured to have disappeared in?EW: I did. There wasn’t much fire but the flames have been put out now. You could see black smoke from the windows in our home and screaming could be heard clearly. MR: Okay. And, as you said, this is extremely unlike main suspect Toby Rogers. How did you think they were coping with the death of his sister, do you think it would ever lead to this?EW: Not at all. I was aware that Toby was quite introverted but not to the point of this. It’s worrying that he was capable of such actions after seeming to be such a nice young man. MR: Thank you very much for your time.
FR: Thank you. Lucas, what are the public to do if they see Toby Rogers?MR: Police have asked the public to stay well away from the young man. A bright orange hatchet is missing from the scene of the crime and he is extremely dangerous. If anybody is aware of his currently whereabouts or believes to have seen him, the police are asking that you call them immediately. Again, please do not approach this young man if you see him. FR: Thank you very much, that was Lucas Thompson reporting for us over in Denver. As always, we’ll broadcast any updates as soon as possible, and our website is always up to date. We have also posted photographs of the young man for a clearer identification. Again, if seen please call the police immediately. For the latest, head to www.bbcradioone.co.uk/newsbeat.
3. My final news report explains the confirmed death of Toby’s father and how the police are still unaware of his whereabouts. It’s also going to explain the death of four school kids, who attended the same school as Toby. The murder weapon found was the orange hatchet that was missing from the previous crime, making Toby a key suspect. This broadcast will be the shortest of the three as the main plot of the story was covered in the previous broadcast. It will be roughly three minutes.
- and now for the news - FR: We can confirm that Stewart Rogers, father of two, has died after being fatally stabbed by his son, who is still currently missing and also rumoured to be involved in another fatal murder of four students. The three boys and one girl were brutally murdered with a hatchet. The group all attended Colorado Academy, along with Toby Rogers, and were thought to be his school tormentors, this possibly being his motive to attack them. Dr Olivers, Toby’s therapist who worked with him just a few hours before the stabbing of his father, spoke to us.DR O: After several evaluations of the young man’s behaviour, we have come to the conclusion that Toby’s personality has been taken over by paediatric schizophrenia. This is simply schizophrenia for those under the age of eighteen. This was
along with APD, antisocial personality disorder, and possible depression. The boy was continuously bullied throughout his school life, leading to his introverted self. Toby’s actions were completely alien and out of character, his mother explained to me, but the boy is still not to be approached if seen. FR: Toby has not been home since any of the murders took place and should still be dressed in his dark hoodie and jeans, as he took no belongings on his departure. Henry Jenkins, current lead detective on the case spoke to a number of reporters on the incident.MP: Although we cannot yet confirm that Toby was involved within this murder, officers are working on the case and the victims, along with the suspected murder weapon are leading officers to believe this was the work of Toby Rogers, yet again. The young man is still missing and is still considered extremely dangerous so we ask the public to stay away from him and report any possible sightings of Toby Rogers at any time. He is still believed to be wearing dark jeans, a black hoodie and trainers, however this may have changed prior to the boy’s disappearance. FR: With thanks to Henry Jenkins, Denver Police Department, and Dr Olivers, Denver psychology clinic. For updates on the case, please visit our website www.bbcradioone.co.uk/newsbeat.For my print article, I began to plan it out by creating a sketch of how I’d like the article to look and writing some notes on how I’d hope for it to finish like.

Technical Requirements
The technical requirements within my project are mainly to do with the quality of my audio. To begin with, I will need to make sure my equipment is all working correctly. To do this, I will record a series of practice clips and edit them with sound effects to make sure the recording is of the highest quality and the sound effects work well with the script. The location of where I record my footage will also be a technical requirement. I will make sure this is okay by, again, recording some test clips to check each location is a quiet environment with no background noise or echo. I will add sound effects to my work during the editing process to make it sound more realistic, however will make sure my original recordings have no background noise or extra sounds. Research SummaryMy research allowed me to gain a clearer understanding on my topic and have the maximum amount of knowledge to create the best possible content. It meant I could develop ideas and effectively communicate to my audience. I presented my contextual findings within a presentation, which can be found, on my blog (emilymynheermediaproduction.wordpress.com). I chose this particular topic as it was something that interested me, but not something I knew fully about; I wanted to research more into it and enjoyed the challenge of taking something fictional and attempting to make it seem real. Creepypasta is something I read when I was younger, so it also meant I was able to revisit a topic that not also interests me now but interested me when I was younger. I decided to present my content within radio and print article as mediums rather than a video as I felt this would be a challenge; the main question I want to answer, is if emotion can still be effectively conveyed through a medium that isn’t as current as television or film. I felt this would be an interesting way to answer my question and I also enjoy working with audio, so it made sense for me to continue working with these skills. This relates to my future career and influences me as radio work is always something I have
been interested in, so this project allows me to look further into this medium. The basic premise of my project is to take a fictional story, better known as a ‘Creepypasta’ story (I explored the reasoning for this name and other stories such as this within my research) and turning each section of the story into separate news reports. I’ll then create a print article featuring quotes and a link to each news report I created. Locations with Risk AssessmentsActivity Hazards Actions / Controls Level of risk

Dads house
I am able to record here when my Dad is at home, it is suitable.
One potential problem could be background noise created by other people in the house.
To prevent this I would make sure where I wanted to record was quiet and free. I’d also do a test of the audio beforehand to make sure the quality is high.
I will have access to this as long as my Dad is home. It’s easy to get to and always available.
I can use every facility here as I live here (for example, toilets, food and drink, etc).
The only permissions I need are from my Dad so I am able to go into his home.
College It is suitable for me to record here, preferable on the days I’m meant to attend.
A potential problem could be background noise from other classes, or an echo if we were to record in a more open space.
To prevent this, I can book out studios or specific classrooms to record in. I can also test my microphone in different parts of the college to see what would work best to create the best quality audio.
I have access to the college during the week, but preferably when Alma is here.
Facilities are open during the day, such as toilets and places to get food and drink.
I do not need permission to be on college grounds as I am a student here but will need permission to use particular rooms, such as the radio studio.
Copyright MaterialsAs my project is only audio, I want to see if emotion can still be effectively felt through a medium without visuals. As well as the audio I will be recording myself, I will also be using sound effects to create add to the feeling of being thrilled and fear the listener will hopefully feel. This will emphasise what the news
reader is saying, and also give the listener a better description to visualise the news report. This will hopefully answer my key question with the answer ‘yes’. I’ll be using sound effects such as quiet sirens, footsteps (of people rushing around in the background) and camera’s clicking as photos are taken. I have listed and referenced the websites I will be using for my sound effects, and will reference the specific sound effect when I choose them one by one. The websites I am using are both royalty free music, which also means the chance of me getting in trouble for using them is minimal.
