HRSA ExpectationsRequirement:

Health center provides all required primary, preventive, enabling health services and additional health services as appropriate and necessary, either directly or through established written arrangements and referrals.

(Section 330(a) of the PHS Act)

PIN 87-8

All centers must provide or arrange for treatment of dental emergencies.

All centers must provide or arrange for the provision of primary preventive services appropriate for their target population.

Pin 87-8 When a 330/329 supported dental program has

filled the requirements for a primary preventive program, the PHS will consider funding Level III services (restorative) if:

There is a documented need, Dental department capacity can be made available A financial analysis with income projections indicates

that significant revenue will be generated.

Similarly, limited Level IV (basic rehabilitation) services may be provided if revenue will cover a majority of the costs of those services.

• Reduce number of people going to hospital ERs for dental pain - refer to private practice or health centers for care

• Expand access to care for elderly in nursing homes

• Expand MOM and Give Kids A Smile® events

• Contracting between private practice dentists and health centers with practitioners receiving enhanced Medicaid reimbursement

• Continue to advocate for simplified Medicaid administration reforms and fee increases

• Increasing number of Community Dental Health Coordinators

• Strengthening collaborations with other health professionals and organizations: for increased understanding of oral health value
