The life of Eleanor Roosevelt

Early life

Eleanor Roosevelt was born on October 11th in New York City.

Eleanor’s mother did not like her very much. She thought Eleanor was plain looking but Eleanor’s father loved her.

Eleanor’s parents were Anna and Elliot, her family was wealthy.

Eleanor’s mother died when she was 8, her father died when she was 10.

After her mother and father died she went to live with her grandmother.

Education

When Eleanor was 15 shewas sent to a boarding schoolin England called Allenswood. She was there from1899 till 1902.

Adult Life

Eleanor married Franklin Roosevelt on March 17, 1905.

In 1932, Franklin was elected President of The United States of America, Eleanor became first lady.

Adult Life/Family

Eleanor and Franklin had 6 children, 1 daughter and 5 sons. One son died as an infant.

The children’s names were Anna, James, Elliot , John and Franklin.

Accomplishments

She joined the Junior League and helped the poor.

She raised 5 children.

She helped Franklin become President.

She had her own radio program and newspaper column.

Impact on the world She had a life long devotion to the poor.

She stood against racist ideas.

She visited and helped wounded soldiers.

She was the leader of the Commission on Human Rights.

Death

She died on November 7, 1962 at the age of 78.

She was hit by a car and after that her health continued to decline for two years until her death.
