What is the Purpose of Coaching? In pairs discuss and list what you think the

purpose of coaching is under the following headings:

Physical development Psychological development

Physical Development Working to improve an individuals physical

skills and techniques Working to improve the various

components of fitness Developing skills in order to minimise the

risk of injury

Psychological Development Developing good habits / discipline with a

training routine. Developing mental toughness and a

positive mental attitude. Learning to control emotions and cope with

success and failure. Learning teamwork and interaction in a

competitive environment.

coach Guided discovery - athlete has freedom to explore various

options
