The skin of a patient with atopic dermatitis
reacts abnormally and easily to irritants,
food and environmental allergens and
becomes very itchy, which leads toscratching, redness, and flaky skin. It is
sometimes called "the itch that rashes"
because the itchiness precedes the rash, and
scratching the itchy skin may cause the rash
Atopic dermatitis often occurs together with
other atopic diseases like hay
fever, asthma and allergic conjunctivitis.
