• Content Standard: 3.1 Process and report information identifying, locating, comparing, and contrasting the major continents and oceans: North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Australia, Asia, Antarctica, Arctic, Atlantic, Indian, Pacific, and Southern using maps, globes, and other technologies.
• Accomplishment: Know the names, locations, and size (by comparison) of all five oceans.
How big are the oceans?
#1 Pacific (155,557,000 sq km) larger map
#2 Atlantic (76,762,000 sq km) larger map
#3 Indian (68,556,000 sq km) larger map
#4 Southern (20,327,000 sq km) larger map
#5 Arctic (14,056,000 sq km) larger map
Correct!
• The Pacific Ocean is the largest ocean covering 15,557,000 sq km.
Hawaii is an island in the Pacific Ocean.
Correct!
• The Arctic Ocean is the smallest ocean covering 14,056,000 sq km.
Since it’s so cold at the North Pole, this ocean is mostly ice!
