Duringthemandatoryclosure,WacoISDisofferingvirtualandotherlearningopportunities.Section504Dyslexia&Dysgraphiastudentswillhaveequalaccesstoappropriatelearningopportunities.WacoISDwillutilizetheNessyOnlineLearningProgramforeachstudentwhoreceives“direct”dyslexiaand/ordysgraphiainstructionasdocumentedonthestudent’s504-serviceplanorIEP.Thisprogramwillbemonitoredbythestudent’shomecampusDyslexiaSpecialisttoensurestudentprogress.
NessyLearningPrinciples:
NessyReading&SpellingadherestotheOrton-Gillinghamapproachmeaningthateachchildreceivesinstructiontailoredtohisorherspecificneeds.
Nessyisflexibleenoughtobeadaptedtohowtheindividuallearns.Nessycanbeusedtosupplementanexistingprogramorasacompletesystemofinstruction.
Everyresourceisgradedsothestudentisnotexpectedtoknowanythingthathasnotyetbeentaught.
Nessyprovidesmultisensoryactivities;readingandspellingaretaughtatthesametime.
Nessyisahighlystructured,sequential,cumulativeandsystematicphonicsbasedlearningprogram.
Technology:EachfamilyinWacoISDwillhavetheopportunitytocheckouttechnologyinordertoaccessthedistrictonlinelearningplatform.Ifyoudonothaveaccesstotechnology,anddidnotreceiveadevicefromWacoISD,pleasecontacttheprincipalatyourchild’scampus.
Communication:EachDyslexiateacherhassetupcommunicationusing“Remind101”.Thisisamessagingtooltohelptheteacherscommunicatewithfamilies.ThecampusDyslexiaSpecialistwillcontactstudentsand/orparentsweeklytoprovidesuggestionsonhowtoaccommodatethestudent’sonlinelearningforgeneraleducationclasses,offerremediationonatargetedlessonfromNessy,and/oransweranyindividualquestions.Pleasejointheremindgroup.Eachfamilyreceivedatextlastweekwiththeinvitationtojoin.Ifyoudidnot,pleasecontactthecampusDyslexiaSpecialist.

ThecampusDyslexiaSpecialistwillbeincontactwitheachstudentand/orparenttoreviewtheiraccommodations.TheDyslexiaSpecialistcanprovidesuggestionsweeklyonhowtheonlinelearningassignmentscanbe“accommodated”(adapted)tomeetthestudent’sindividualneeds.

EachstudentneedstocompletetheNessypre-assessmenttodeterminethestudent’stargetedlessons.
InadditiontoNessy,thestudentisrequiredtocompletetheassignmentsforhis/hercurrentgradelevel.
WeekofApril13thandafter:
Eachstudentshouldspendaminimumof20minutesperdayontheNessyReading/Spellingand20minutesperdayontheNessyWriting.
TheCampusDyslexiaSpecialistwillbemonitoringeachstudent’sonlinetimeandprogressthroughtheNessyreportsfeature.Ifthestudentdidnotreachtherequiredminutesperweek,thestudentand/orparentwillbecontactedbythecampusDyslexiaSpecialist.
InadditiontoNessy,thestudentisrequiredtocompletetheassignmentsforhis/hercurrentgradelevel.
