A damper assembly for use with the inlet duct of a pollution control system includes a plurality of vanes which are pivotally mounted for move- ment between an open position and a closed position wherein the vanes coact to close the duct. Each vane is pivotally mounted at one end on a closure plate releasably affixed over an opening sized to permit the vane to be removed therethrough. The vanes also include a hanger member receivable on a trolley rod which may be inserted into a second opening in the duct for supporting the vane after it has been dis- connected from its pivot support and as it is being slid through the opening and into and out of position within the duct.

FLUIDIZED BED GASIFICATION ASH REDUCTION AND

REMOVAL PROCESS

Carl E Schenone, Joseph Rosinski assigned to The United States of America as represented by the United States Department of Energy

u t l

In a fluidized bed gasification system an ash removal system to reduce the particulate ash to a maximum size or smaller, allow the ash to cool to a temperature lower than the gasifier and remove the ash from the gasifier system. The system con- sists of a crusher, a container containing level probes and a means for controlling the rota- tional speed of the crusher based on the level of ash within the container.

A wastewater treatment system and process utilizing a trickling filter with a rotary dist-

ributor extending thereover for the distribution of wastewater over the filtering medium. A sealed insulating dome overlays the filter to pro- vide a closed environment. An underdrain sys- tem extends underneath the filtering medium covering the floor of the filter and includes per- forated sections into which the applied wastewater flows. The perforated sections ex- tend into an underdrain gallery which collects the applied wastewater to be recycled by the pump through the distributor or expended out of the filter. Controllable air recirculation system for selectively moving air under the dome through the filtering medium includes a blower in communication with the gallery which directs air through the gallery from under the dome, through discharge conduits and into the filtering medium. The direction of air flow is reversible and the introduction of atmospheric air is pro- vided after passing through a controllable heater. The rate of introduction of atmospheric air is controllable in response to a decreased dis- solved oxygen level in the filter effluent and a vent discharges existing air within the system.

Improved detection circuitry is disclosed for cal- culating the position on the crystal of a scintilla- tion event in a scintillation camera. Electrical signals developed by photomultiplier tubes for successive events are weighted by a resistor matrix and transferred to integrators which develop event position signals based on the quanta of radiation incident on the scintillation crystal. To improve the count rate without

sacrificing the resolution, parallel integrators are provided so that a second integrator can in- tegrate electrical signals from a second scintilla- tion event during the time that a first integrator is processing the signals from a first scintillation e- vent. Common storage buffers are connected to the integrators to hold the integrated signals for further processing.

A bottle cap of the pushbutton type having a jacket threaded to fit to the bottle top, and a round pushboard intertitted and pivotally mounted in the jacket with protrusions on the pushboard to control openings of an effluent pipe and an air intake pipe mounted in a check board portion of the jacket, with an effluent port and an air intake path in the pushboard for fluid connection to those respective pipes. The ports on the bottom of the jacket leading to the pipes therein are spaced from each other by use of a shield over the bottom port of the air intake pipe allowing pouring of a liquid from the bottle, using a pushbutton type cap, through the ef- fluent pipe, without interference with the air in- take system.

DURING THERMAL PROCESSING

Gernot Jager, Hubert Spitz, Herbert Specht, Cologne, Federal Republic Of Germany as- signed to Klockner-Humboldt-Deutz AG

A method and apparatus for monitoring the operation of a rotary drum such as a rotary kiln while engaged in thermal processing of fine grained materials such as cement which involves measuring the temperature distribution existing instantaneously during such processing by means of one or more sensors which are not in contact with the drum and comparing the dist- ribution with other parameters related to the thermal processing.
