Dinosaur Concert

On the 2nd of July 2013 – Pam CorkerHouse residents were treated to aspecial concert from the grade onestudents of Waroona Primary School. The theme for the concert wasDinosaurs. The children presented awonderful show of song and theatreas they sang and entertained theresidents and staff with their take onDinosaurs, with some scary Dinosaurmasks and costumes. Some of theDinosaurs even played a mean guitar. All of the residents enjoyed and havecommented on how lovely it was forthe students and teachers to attendPam Corker and share the concertwith them. The residents alsoreceived a handmade card from thestudents and got to meet theperformers at the end of the concertto thank them in person. Theresidents would like to extend awelcome invitation for the Students toattend and share future performancesand thank them for their Concert.

Supporters, families, along withAgricultural Societies from the SouthWest gathered on June 29th at theDinninup Hall to watch the finals ofthe Rural Ambassador award. The award is open to young men andwomen between 20 and 30 years ofage who have an Agriculturalbackground or affinity, who would liketo further networking, communicationand promotion of youth in theAgricultural Sector, and enjoy achallenge.Local farmer Anthony Snellrepresented Waroona, commencingwith an initial trial final and dinner heldat the Drakesbrook Tavern. At thefinals, Anthony and three other SouthWest representatives presentedjudges with their resumes, delivered atwo minute speech on a rural topic oftheir interest and then werequestioned on issues facing RuralAustralia today.Supporters were entertained by afashion parade, a local choir and anAustralian Bush Poet whilst theentrants were being judged. Anthonyspoke of his involvement with hisfamilies Beef farming operations both

in Waroona and at Wongawol andCarniegie Stations in the north.  Hethen stated his concern over thedivide of understanding between cityand rural backgrounds and the needto broaden the city knowledge of ruralconcerns through social media. The South West finals were won byJessica Sheehan from Donnybrook, however Anthony's farmingknowledge and experience wereobvious through his meaningfulspeech.Anthony is the Rural Ambassador forthe Waroona Show and amongst hisother community involvement, will be,as his family has done for manyyears, assisting with the many helpersat the 2013 Waroona Show onOctober 12th.

Congratulations Anthony!

Contemporary writing is a compositionthat is set in the ‘here and now’. This iswhere the setting, characters, anddialogue are modern. For example, ina contemporary setting we would havethe technological advances of the day. These would include cars, telephones, and computers to name a few. Thecharacters would dress in modernclothing such as jeans and sneakers, and would possibly have piercings, modern hairstyles etc. The dialoguewould carry the popular sayings of theday, common words, euphemisms andexpressions, such as ‘whatever’, ‘noproblem’, ‘babe’, ‘what-the-hell’,‘Google’, ‘LOL’ etc. All these thingsneed to be taken into consideration. Itis easy to revert to the speech anauthor may have used in a differentera, so the writer needs to be vigilantin these matters when writing acontemporary story. To connect with Jeanette go to herwebsite:www.jeanettehornby.com.au

Due to therecent cold snapin the weather, there has been acall for scarvesand beanies soour ladies have

been busily knitting scarves forVinnies as well as beanies for the newbabies at Peel Health Campus. Thanks go to Yvonne, Ella andanother lady whose name we did notcatch. Please let us know who youare! All these beanies were madefrom the pattern published in LastMonth’s Despatch. Judy gave us avery interesting talk on the work of StVinnies in general. We never realisedjust how much call there is for help in

the community, yes, even in smallcountry communities such as ours.Times are proving difficult for manypeople. To help us help others westill need donations of wool (8ply isour favourite) and fibre fill which canbe left at the library. In September we are having a talk bySuzanne Hunter on the work of theStrong Angels, a group in Gelorupwho support an orphanage in Bali. Her websitestrongangelaus@yahoo.com.au tellsus of the great work they do there.Donations of children’s wear, household linen and school suppliesare very welcome.Nola Turner

Do you ever wonderhow our local roads gettheir name and what isthe story behind thename? We recently learntmore about where the

road name Wingate Vista originatedwhen we received an enquiry from thegreat-great granddaughter of JohnSutton. Wingate was the name of theproperty owned by John and BetsySutton of Burney Road in Hamel. JohnSutton was the first secretary and amember of the Drakesbrook SettlersAssociation which later became theDrakesbrook Road Board and in thatcapacity was never backward inexpressing his opinions. Mr. Suttontook part in almost every movementthat would contribute to the prosperityand progress of this district, also beinga local preacher for the MethodistChurch. John was also a keen apiaristand so named his farm Wingate BeeFarm. John became the State’s firstbee and apiary inspector for the WAAgriculture Bureau and presided as ahoney judge at the Royal WAAgricultural Society Show in the early1900’s and also travelled the suburbsgiving talks on bee keeping. TheWaroona Historical Society now hastwo photographs to add to thecollection thanks to his great-greatgranddaughter – a portrait of John andBetsy and a scene of bee hives atWingate Bee Farm. Both pictures canbe found on our Facebook Page andalso the Society’s website -http://waroonahistsoc.myclub.org.au

The “Jim Hull”WaroonaContractingand Servicesreunion held onSunday, June

16 at the Waroona Hotel was a greatsuccess. Our many thank go to StanCox, Bill Davis and Jenny Littlejohnfor getting the ball rolling five yearsago. We all had a memorable daymeeting work mates, looking atphotos and sharing memories and in

some cases adventures.Vickie Cooper, Don Murphy’sdaughter, brought along daily timebooks and pass for Alcoa’s Pinjarrasite. Working days and conditionswere clearly very different.  Don’sbooks and the many photos promptedour memories including one of DenisFarrell’s photos taken in 1963 onJohnson Rd, Yarloop of a CAT D7dozer that had slipped off a boggedAtkinson Prime Mover (Les Wood). They had been trying to pass a

What a day! What a greatcrowd! Good onyou Waroona foryour awesomespirit in givingtowards the

Cancer Council WA. My friend FionaWells who passed away two years tothe date of our BMT , would be sohappy to see how far we’ve come. This year we choose to do our BMT atthe Waroona Farmers Market due tothe success at my home last yearraising a wonderful $7500 –Mohawking in Memory of Fiona Wells, and hoping to get more people to theLocal Farmers Market, to make it a‘Win/Win’ situation for everyone, theLions Club kindly donated their trailerand crew for the Big Breaky withvolunteers Linley Young, DavidBattye, Gail Black and Glen Millier. We also had a mulch raffle which waswon by Lisa Carrati and wine rafflewon by Roly Richardson (hot-rodder).We also had The Biggest MorningTea in the hall. This was run by mysisters Shirley Ducker, Denise Eadeand friend Barbara Hunt who cateredfor a nice crowd. Also thank you to thewonderful people who made cakesand all the yummy goodies, on top ofall this we had a truck load of nativeplants donated by WA HorticulturalServices. All proceeds from BMT,Lions trailer, Raffles, Cakes andTrash n Treasure raised a wonderful$3000 on the day, with another $1500

Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea a Great success

Glen Millar, Denice Eade, BarbaraHunt, Julie Rowles & Shirley Ducker

on line donations and pledges making awonderful success of $4500.I would also like to say thank you to allthe Hot Rodders who brought their carsto show on this very cold but Sunnymorning, all the people who donatedpart proceeds from their stalls,Waroona Tourist Centre and PostOffice for the donations to the BMTRaffle. Also all the volunteers andeveryone who joined the spirit, andlocal papers and radio who advertisedthis event. These events are not onlyabout Fund Raising for a cause, but it isalso about Community Spirit and oncea again I Thank you Waroona for yourhelp. Also a reminder to everyone who didn’tcome to the Farmers Market lastmonth, please try to go this month it’sworth the visit for the whole family, there is so much there Breakfast,Conserves, Pickles, fruit and vegies, gifts, really cool handbags and hair

pieces, jewellery, candles, a man thatmakes cool stuff out of recycledthings, body wraps, embroidery work, baby goods, trash n treasure, icecream, cactus lady, Lena Deleo thelist goes on!Why I do this was a question a friendasked. I started doing this with afriend Fiona Wells when she first gotLung Cancer in 2009, Fiona saw howmuch the Cancer Council helped herwith her illness and approached me todo a Big Morning Tea together. Sinceboth of us don’t do anything by halveswe did a Trash n Treasure and BMTand raised over $2500. The next yearFi wasn’t well but we proceeded withthe cause raising $1200 , Fiona laterpassed away on the 7th July. Lastyear my friend was gone, but Idecided in memory to go hard at myhome with Hot rods, BBQ ,BMT ANDMohaking raising a whopping $7500.Since my friend got Cancer it hasopened my eyes to all the peoplearound us that have been touched bycancer and the help that is needed. Our Government doesn’t fundeverything and an illness like this canbe so draining on families in so manyways, so for me I do this, as I can’twalk away and stop helping ourfriends and families around us.Donations and Comments can still bemade tohttp://wa.cancercouncilfundraising.org.au/thinkpinkforfriendsandfamily2013,

Building a Tradition – 4th Annual Foodbank Run Set to BeginFor three years now, Nationals’ Member for the South West Region Hon. Colin Holt has done an annualFood Drive for Foodbank WA. Travelling from Mandurah to Albany collecting food donations anddelivering them to local Foodbank Branches. Delivering more than 7 tonnes of food – the equivalent of11,000 meals.

These donations have proven to be making a tremendous difference, directly helping members of our own community. Last year saw a fantasticresponse from the South West community; the donations provided a muchneeded boost to the supplies at Foodbank depots across the South WestRegion.

Preparations have begun for the fourth Run, Foodbank will soon be delivering thebins to local stores in your area – look out for the large maroon bins at your localstore. Every donation makes a difference; even a tin of soup is truly appreciated.

Other businesses are also providing essential support for the run, this year the team atClassic Hire have generously donated theuse of one of their trailers for the duration of the run.

In September, I will drive around and collect the bins, delivering them to the nearestFoodbank branch.

“I call on anyone who is able to, to please help this worthwhile charity.”

Anyone wishing to contribute can contact Mr Holt’s Office on 98417144 to find out more information.

Foodbank WA is the pantry for the welfare sector and in partnership with over 1200 agencies it delivershunger relief to people state wide. It also operates life changing health programs including the SchoolsBreakfast Program which provides a healthy breakfast to more than 15,000 students every week. Eachmonth 55,000 Western Australians receive food that has originated from Foodbank WA. Many of thebeneficiaries of Foodbank are located in regional WA and our support will help many families. For additional information on Foodbank please visithttp://www.foodbankwa.org.au

Animal trackers Part 1: Livestock identificationSome small landholders who own, say, just a riding pony or a pet alpaca may believe they are exempt from the livestockownership and identification regulations under the Biosecurity and Agriculture Management Act 2007, or they may noteven be aware of the legislation. All livestock owners, even of a single animal, must register as such. They will be issuedwith a card containing their Property Identification Code (PIC) for the property where stock is kept and where theirallocated identifiers may be used. To register, contact the Brands Office on 9780 6207 or email brands@agric.wa.gov.auMaking your markThe types and where an identity tags is placed varies between different animal species. Animals must have identificationtags before they leave the property of birth or before they reach a specified age.Stud animals may be identified with the approved Breed Society mark applied as per that society’s guidelines ratherthan with their registered brand or earmark.

Alpacas and llamas must be identified by age six months or before leaving theproperty of birth, with either an ear tag imprinted with your brand or with your earmark.Cattle and buffalo must be brandedor earmarked before they leave the propertyor by six months of age. The brand, if used, must be either a fire- or freeze-brandon the left rump or shoulder. Buffalo may be fire-branded on their horns. All buffaloand cattle must have a National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) electronicdevice in their right ear before movement from a property. Movement of cattle orbuffalo on to your property must be recorded on the NLIS database.Sheep must have ear marks by weaning or the age of six months, or before theyleave the property. They must have an NLIS ear tag imprinted with the owner’s PICor registered brand. It is advisable to tag lambs at marking. For sheep born on the property, use a year of birth colour tag in the opposite ear tothe earmark. For sheep brought on to the property, use a pink tag attached on thesame ear as the earmark before transporting but it is recommended you tag onarrival.Goatsmust have an NLIS ear tag imprinted with the PIC or owner’s registeredbrand by age six months or before they leave the property. Stud dairy goats areexempt from NLIS identification if already identified with the approved Breed Societymark.Movement of sheep or goats on to your property must be recorded on the NLISdatabase.Deer must be either branded with an ear tag in the designated ear, or be earmarked.

Horses should be fire- or freeze-branded on the left shoulder. If a horse is already branded when purchased, you do nothave to re-brand.Pigs over 10 weeks of age must be identified with a pig slapbrand no more than seven days before leaving the property. The brand is placed on the left shoulder if the owner has bredthe animal or on the right shoulder if the owner is not thebreeder.Registration and identification ofostriches is optional. However, if owners are registered and wish to identify theirbirds, this must be done by using a neck tag or a leg bandembossed with the registered brand or Breed Society mark. For further NLIS information emailnlis@agric.wa.gov.auRegister for reliabilityIdentification of livestock assists with returning stray or stolenstock and in the tracing of animals as they are moved fromone property to another. Should a disease breakout occur, itis essential that an animal’s movements can be tracedthroughout its life.Registration is valid for three years, with this frequency maintaining the reliability of the register to have current propertyowner and stock details.

Happy Birthday to all the Horses!Returned MailIf you have mail to return, we reallyappreciate it if you can pass it to usacross the counter and explain whatthe reason is. This better ensures thatthe mail does not end up back at yourplace. If there is a problem and it isreturned just thru the slots, it can bedifficult for us to know what theproblem was. We do understand thatthis is an extra burden on your time, but it should ensure that less time iswasted overall.Mail PackagingSometimes when you have an item topost , it can be very confusing to workout the most appropriate packaging. The alternatives are many and varied.Your starting point should be "Am Iposting a document or a parcel". If theanswer is Documents , then you needto ask is it Domestic mail orInternational mail? Each type has avariety of envelope options ( size,

weight, pre-paid, registered etc). Ifthe answer is Parcel, the nextquestion is the same as for thedocuments, ie. Is it domestic orinternational and a gain there is avariety of purpose made packaging. So when does a 'document' become aparcel….once it is over 500gms inweight and more than 20mm thick.Post office staff are more than happyto assist you with your selections.Choosing the wrong packaging andwriting on it can be an expensivemistake!Bookings Please - reminderJust a reminder that for those identityinterviews that the Post Office isauthorized to conduct, we appreciateit if you can make an appointmentbooking. This can be done online, orcustomer care will book it for you ifyou call 131318. We can also takebookings across the counter.

Appointment hours are between10.am and 3.30pm. Doing this helpsus manage things better for all ourcustomers. Thanks for your supportwith this.Mail MunchersIt’s a good time to do Wintermaintenance on your letterbox. Withlots of rain about, your mail can get abit soggy if water gets in your box.Mail is also very delicious for snailsabout right now, so its good to takeprecautions to deter them wherepossible! Have you spotted Sharon? Some of you may have thought youwere seeing things this week whenour previous Postie Sharon took tothe bike again! Sharon says therewere already a few cobwebs she hadto dust off but she is happy to behelping Robyn out now and again.Don’t forget to give her a wave!Happy thoughts to all forAugust…..Nearly Spring! From the Post Office!

During July/August we havebeen reading Deb-bie Macomber anAmerican authorof over 150 con-

temporary novels and winner of manyliterary awards. Macomber writesmainly for the female audience. Herbooks encompass modern lives withthe issues of relationships, romanceand death. For those readers who likea story with a bit of romance you willfind that the relationships in mostcases lead to marriage and if there isany sex involved it usually ends at thebedroom door for the reader. Ma-comber has written a number of “seriesbooks” which involve people living inone location and amongst these arethe Cedar Cove books (which we havebeen reading), another about a towncalled Texas, the Midnight Sons(which takes place in frozen Alaska),and another which take place in Blos-som Street. As Macomber is a fanati-

cal knitter this latter series takes placearound a Yarn Store in a fictionalstreet. She has written many otherstand-along novels. Macomber’sheart-warming novels are always filledwith love and laughter. In the last fewyears Hallmark Television have begunto make the Cedar Cove books intotelevision films with one of the leadsbeing played by Andie MacDowell. Some of our members stated that theywill read Macomber again whilst othersfound her a bit light, or that there weretoo many characters in her stories andbecause of this there is always a list ofcharacters in the front of the books. Some members said that the storiesweren’t gutsy whereas another saidthat they were too complex. So if youlike a modern day romance try readingDebbie Macomber, but remember ifyou do, try to read them in order sothat you are able to keep the story linesand characters straight although this innot strictly necessary. Meanwhile untilnext Book Club.- HAPPY READING.

Waroona Veterinary Clinic NewsWhen will my Pullet lay? By KellieDe Rosa RVNSize, breed and maturity affect age oflay. On average pullets will lay atabout 21-26 weeks of age. Slowmaturing breeds can take up to 32weeks. It takes a hen 24-26 hours toform an egg. The amount of eggs laidvaries tremendously between breedswith other factors such as health, stress, weather, feed quality anddaylight all playing a role in eggproduction. One important point to remember isthat a Hen that runs out of water foras little as 4 hours may not layanother egg for 6 weeks. Water isextremely important for eggproduction. Can you tell if your hen is laying?Yes, she will have a red waxy comband her feathers maybe a little dull asshe is putting lots of energy into eggsand not into plumage. If you look ather vent it should be moist/pink. If sheis not laying, her comb will be pale, her vent will look dry and her pubicbones will feel sharp. What about hens that won’t lay? Some hens are better producers thanothers. Assuming that you've already

done your research to figure out whichhen best fits your expectations for egglaying, we can move on to some otherfactors.Diet:On the diet issue, make sure yourgirls are receiving a good completefeed like a "laying" feed. This usuallycomes in either a pellet or crumble.Despite what a feed store may tell you, scratch mix or wheat isn't a completefeed. A complete feed on the otherhand will not only have the sufficientprotein for layers, but also a vitamin/mineral package. The feed should befresh, so that the nutrients haven’tdegraded. Remember these are thebuilding blocks of eggs. Also toproduce good eggs your hens requirecalcium in the form of shell grit.Lighting: The success of your laying"team" also depends on lighting. Tokeep up good production, hens dependon 14 hours a day of light. That's whyso many people find their hens shutdown their laying in the winter; becauseofless daylight hours. You can 'trick'hens by turning on lights in the coop inthe morning to make up a full 14 hourdaylight day. Most people just wait andlet the girls have a well-earned restEnvironment:

Sometimes the girls will decide thatconditions aren't right for egg layingdespite your good feed and properlighting. Sometimes they feel toovulnerable while laying and so theyjust don't lay. You can help alleviatetheir shyness by providing little"nooks" in which they can lay and alsotry encouraging them by putting 'fake'eggs in their nests.Remember, your girls do not layduring times of stress like when theymolt (from around April- Julydepending on breed, weather & age)or illness.

For those of you who don’t knowWaroona Veterinary Clinic has aveterinary nurse who specialises inPoultry. Nurse consults with Kellie foryour poultry can be made by callingthe clinic on 97331356. Kellie alsooffers a FREE 12 page booklet shehas written herself with lots ofinformation on caring, feeding anddiseases seen in poultry; this can bepicked up for free at the Clinic. This is the third in a series of articleson chicken care by Nurse Kellie; lookout for more in upcoming issues.

Waroona Demons News - by Forward PocketWaroona Coltshave greatlyimproved from thestart of the seasonand haveperformed wellunder the guidanceof Coach RhysNewman andClub

Legend Glen Wilson. They are likelyto finish in sixth spot just behindSouth Mandurah in fifth spot.LastSunday they outscored Souths by twogoals in the last term on the slipperyFalcon Oval.Josh Commisso has hadan outstanding season and played inall three grades in many differentpositions. He was also a member ofthe Peel Combined U 18 Team andan all-star in the great SouthernCarnival. Josh was also a member ofthe State U 18Country team as well.Damien Young has also displayed histalent by playing in the Ruck and asan attacking half back.Jayden Carattiand Rowan Gardiner have also showntheir class when released from thePeel Thunder Colts team in the WAFLCompetition.Mitchell Morley as an U20 has supported his youngerteammates and Jake Wilson as arunning wingman has improved everygame and also named in the PeelCombined Team for the greatSouthern Carnival. The Bury BrothersRobert and Ben earn the hard balldespite their size and JoshuaFalkstrom is third in the Colts leadingGoal kicker Award with 28 goals.Kohen Hart-Cole displayed hisversatility by competing in the Ruckand Key Position. This is a very youngteam that will continue to improve andprovide Waroona Football Club withgreat playing stocks in years to come.Waroona Reserves lost only theirsecond game for the season againstSouth Mandurah by nine points lastSunday. They still lead thePremiership ladder by percentagefrom their nemesis South Mandurahand are in a great position to defendtheir first title in 42 years with theirsuccess last season.Playing Coach Rocky Caruso whoplayed his 251st club game on theweekend is in the best form of hiscareer and has not missed a beatsince taking over as Coach in roundfive. His assistants Juddy Giumelli,Vince Vitale together with viceCaptain Lindsay Gilbert who hasexperienced the misfortune of seriousarm injuries have also played theirrolesKey Defenders Luke Hamson

and Ben Howell are underrated andsupported by the best back pocket inthe league Adam Simpson.MathewMortimer and Jackson Hiscock give themidfield real grunt and Alfred Angi is agoal kicking forward pocket specialist.Steve “Sav” Srhoj Goalsneak is secondon the Reserves GoalkickingTallyboard with 28 goals and bringsother forwards into the game with hisunselfish football.Daniel Johnson canplay Ruck or a roving Centre HalfForward and has been a great midseason addition.Rhys Newman andMichael Vellacott lack nothing in skillsand Grant Coxon once he learns tokeep his feet will become an even moreallrounded player adding to hissmothering ability.Zac Indich is animproving defender and Utility playerKurt Brown gives the team options.AKey to their finals success whether firstruck Ayden Crook is on song and teamdiscipline is maintained at all times. The team will be further strengthenedwhen talented Colts players JoshCommisso and Damien Young becomeavailable in the finals.Waroona League Squad is in a greatposition to win their fifth consecutiveLeague Premiership title and appear tohave more depth than last year.Theyhave only lost two games for theseason and which included the “FevolaShowtime”in Round 8.The Ruck is wellcovered with Steele Court and MatThomas as the “Springing Jack”backed up by Matt Atcheson andCameron Sommerville when theybecome available.Adam Clancy isenjoying his best season for a coupleof years and with 43 goals is sittingthird on the League Goal KickingTallyboard and blended well with Alan“Foxy” Wilson.Rover Eli Smith is inscintillating form in his second Leagueseason and displayed that form at ahigher level. Joel Catalano is back tohis form of a couple of years ago andUtility Courtney LakaySkills will beevident in the Fairest and Best Count.Liam Thomas has settled down in thebackline and has allowed  RhysBloxsidge freedom to move further upthe ground.Dusty Roberts has coveredthe loss of Ben “Chief” Mathews Heraldon a wing and Jayden Derosa isimproving every game and especiallyhis leg speed.Chad Peters, RyanMcKinley and Tommy Carroll are alltough hard players and when availabletogether form the best half back line inthe League.Former Coach and AFLPlayer Craig Callaghan and CaptainBenny Wright when they come off the

injured list will be the trump cards.Aaron Payrits can play either back orforward and is running into form aftera short pre-season.Clay Smith canplay in the Ruck, Key Positions andshowed his talent by holding RodTregenza to only five goals whencovering for regular Full Back RyanCourt last Sunday. The SouthMandurah and Goalsneak RocketTregenza has kicked 95 goals thisseason. Having Ryan Court availablewho is tough and dour gives coachDean Taylor more options.RhettMason has returned from PeelThunder League Squad and thistalented utility player loves running, kicking goals and rebounding fromdefence, nothing like returning to yourhome town and playing with yourmates.League Coach Dean Taylorstill gives the midfield grunt and has agreat vocal assistant John Masonrunning the bench which cannot beundervalued.Quinn Smith with aserious knee injury is a loss the teamwill have to cover as the reboundinghalf back flanker was in great formprior to his injury. The documentaryon Win TVV earlier this year was agreat story. The teams ability to bothapply and defend under pressure isanother fine example of why the teamhas done say well. After Round 15 theLeague Squad is in another strongposition to defend their title and breakanother record. They need to staymentally strong, disciplined and will towin. Pinjarra Tigers have gone on arecruiting drive andRockinghamRams are desperate to beat Waroonaso it will be the toughest test in thepast five years.

InMemoriam

Having justwitnessed a beautiful

memorial service to ourdear friend:

Len Mason

On behalf of all his friendsat the Bowling Club, I would

like to offer our sincerecondolences to Carol and allhis family. We all learnt a lot

more about Len at theservice and saw many

different sides to him. Hewill be sadly missed by all

of us.

Bowls hascontinuedrightthrough outthe winter. We haveonlymissed oneThursdayafternoon

Scroungers game due to badweather. If you are interested inplaying Scroungers just come along tothe Club by 2.15pm and nominate. We are usually on the green by2.30pm and stay for a few drinks afterthe game. Don’t worry if you haven’tplayed much before, they are all agreat group of guys and a few oldchooks, all easy to get along with, very social, very enjoyable, comealong and join us.Saturday afternoon Meat pack Triplesis well under way. We like teams tobe nominated by Friday night. Wehave had between 6 and 8 teamseach week. We play two games andthe winning team wins the meatpacks. We also have a meat rafflewith a first and second prize. Wenormally have a few nibbles andsocialize after the games. If you donthave a team, let the club know byFriday night that you are interested,as we often have teams looking forspare players. We often have people enquiring aboutplaying bowls, usually someonewanting to learn. This year we intendmaking more effort to teach beginnershow to play. Starting soon we will begiving lessons to anyone who isinterested. We have plenty of bowlsavailable at the Club, a size to suitany hand. The time for the lessons isyet to be negotiated, but will bestarting soon. If you are interested atall, please contact one of the following

The Club Opening Day for the newseason will be on Sunday, Sept.1st.This will be round two of ‘The War ofthe Roses”. That means we need allplayers in attendance. If you haveother plans, cancel them. We dontwant the Ladies to have an excusewhen they get beaten again, thatseveral of their good players weremissing.
