New Research Station
A new Horticultural Research Station under Dr. YSRHU at T.Venkupalem village in Anakapalle mandal Visakhapatnam district was inaugurated by Hon'ble Chief Minister Sri N.Chandrababu Naidu on 06.09.2017. The inauguration function was also graced by Sri. N. Chinarajappa, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister, Home, Disaster Management, Sri. Ch. Ayyannapaatrudu, Hon’ble Minister for Roads & Buildings, Sri. G. Srinivasa Rao, Hon’ble Minister for Human Resource Development, Sri. Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao, Hon’ble Minister for Water Resource Management, Sri. Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao, Hon’ble MP, Anakapalle, Sri. Kambhampati Haribabu, Hon’ble MP, Visakhapatnam, Sri. Peelaa Govinda Satyanarayana, MLA, Sri. Panchakarla Ramesh Babu, MLA, Sri. Kidari Sarveswara Rao, MLA, Sri. MVVS Murthy, MLC, Sri.Pappula Chalapathi Rao, MLC and Sri Chiranjiv Choudhary, Vice-Chancellor along with Hon’ble Board members, University officers, Zonal Research Head (Coastal Zone-I) and scientists. Choudhary, Vice-Chancellor along with University officers, Zonal Research Head (Rayalaseema
Zone), Associate Dean of CoH, Anantharajupeta and scientists of Dr.YSRHU graced the occasion. On
this occasion, Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture interacted with RAWEP students allotted to CRS,
Tirupati and visited insect proof net house with sweet orange mother plants for the production of
disease free planting material.
New India Manthan-Sankalp Se Siddhi
KVK, Periyavaram has conducted “New India Manthan - Sankalp Se
Siddhi” programme on 07.09.2017. Sri Somireddy Chandramohan
Reddy, Hon'ble Minister for Agriculture, Horticulture, Sericulture
and Agri-Processing was chief guest for the function which was
presided over by Sri K.Ramakrishna, MLA, Venkatagiri. Sri Chiran-
jiv Choudhary, Vice-Chancellor along with Hon’ble Board members,
University officers, scientists, departmental officers and farmers
have participated and took oath on New India Manthan: Sankalp Se
Siddhi for doubling farmer’s income by 2022. In this programme a
bulletin entitled “Sankalpam tho Saakaram” was released by
Hon'ble Minister for Agriculture and Horticulture, Sri Somireddy
Chandramohan Reddy. About 800 farmers attended the programme.
Education
NEW India: Sankalp to Sidhhi
As per the instructions of the MHRD, New Delhi all students and lecturers of Dr.YSRHU participated
in “Young India, New India – A Resurgent Nation : from Sankalp to Sidhhi” on the occasion of Pandit
Deendayal Upadhyaya's Centenary Celebrations and 125th anniversary of Swami Vivekananada
speech at Chicago at their respective colleges on 11.09.2017. Staff and students witnessed the
highly inspiring Hon’ble Prime Minister’s speech on spiritual as well as socio-economic needs, so as
to enhance the quality of their lives.

Exposure Visits
PG (Botany) students of Yogi Vemana University, YSR Kadapa under the
leadership of Dr. S. Raja Gopal Reddy visited College of Horticulture,
Anantharajupeta on 15.09.2017. Dr. K. Arunodayam, Asst. Professor (Pl.
Path), CoH, Anantharajupeta explained in detail about various disease
symptoms at field level and other pathological aspects at Plant Pathol-
ogy laboratory.

Teacher’s Day Celebrations - 2017
Birth Anniversary of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan was celebrated as Teachers day on 05.09.2017 at all the
constituent colleges of Dr.Y.S.R.Horticultural University. Students and Staff participated in the
celebrations.
Experiential Learning Programme
ELP on commercial horticulture has been initiated at Centre of
Excellence for Protected Cultivation, Venkataramannagudem and the
students are producing watermelon seedlings as quality planting
material for the farmers based on the requirement under the supervi-
sion of ELP Co-ordinator, Dr. Vinay Kumar Reddy, Asst. Prof (Hort.).
ELP students on Bee keeping are actively involved in the production
and harvesting of honey at College of Horticulture, Venkataramanna-
gudem under the supervision of ELP Co-ordinator, Dr. N. Emmanuel,
Asst. Prof (Ento.).

Training Programmes
Sri P. Raja Sekhar, Scientist (SS&AC), KVK, Pandirimamidi has
attended as resource person to an off-campus training programme
on ‘Pest and Disease Management in Paddy and Cotton’ organized
by ATMA at Vankarai village of Rajavommangi mandal on
11.09.2017. Commonly occurring various pest and diseases and
their management practices to be followed in paddy and cotton
were discussed with farmers followed by a visit to cotton field which was at boll formation stage
and observed severe infestation of Sphingid recommended to remove weeds followed by spraying
of monocrotophos @ 1.6 ml/ l or chlorpyriphos @ 2.5 ml/l of water.
On 13.09.2017, Dr.P.Manjari, Scientist (Veterinary Science), KVK,
Pandirimamidi conducted training on “Fodder Production Technol-
ogy” in Devaram village of Devipatnam mandal in which the farmers
were acquainted with different types of fodder crops and importance
of silage making and Azolla production. Dr.A.Srinivas, Sr. Scientist &
Head, KVK, Pandirimamidi addressed the farmers and highlighted the
importance of feed for sustainable milk production. On this occasion, cuttings of Super Napier
fodder variety were given to the beneficiaries for cultivation.

On 12.09.2017, Sri G.Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl. Path.), KVK, Vonipenta
attended “Polam Pilusthondi” programme at Adireddipalli village of
Mydukur mandal organized by Department of Agriculture and addressed
the farmers on “Turmeric and Tomato cultivation practices”. Sri. D.Tagore
Naik, JDA, Kadapa dist attended as chief guest and addressed the farmers
on importance of organic farming, ZBNF followed by visit to turmeric
fields cultivated under organic farming.
On 29.08.2017, Sri. G.Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Venkatara-
mannagudem attended a training programme as resource person to
Multi purpose extension officers (MPEOs) at O/o. Assistant Director
of Agriculture (ADA), Tadepalligudem and explained about “Pest &
disease management practices in paddy”.
Dr. B. Srinivasulu, Senior Scientist & Head, HRS, Anantapuramu educated
the farmers on “Vegetable production technologies” at RHTI, Anantapu-
ramu on 07.09.2017 as a resource person.
Vocational Training Programme
On 15.09.2017, vocational training on “Vermicompost Production”
conducted for RHWEP students by Sri P. Raja Sekhar, Scientist (SS &
AC) and N.Srividya Rani, Scientist (Extn.), KVK, Pandirimamidi at
Gokavaram mandal. Scientists explained about vermicomposting
techniques, its uses, precautions to be taken while production and its
importance as organic manure in agriculture and horticulture crops
etc. In this programme Sri D. Srinivas, Panchayat Secretary, Gokavaram mandal explained about the
solid waste processing centre, its detailed working procedure and how they are collecting kitchen
waste from houses and farmers and being used for vermicompost production.
A three day vocational training programme on ‘Fish processing and
value addition’ was organized at KVK, Venkataramannagudem from
13.09.2017 to 15.09.2017. Dr. A.Devivaraprasad Reddy, Scientist
(Fishery Science), Dr. K. Venkata Subbiah, Scientist, (Hort.), Sri. G.
ShaliRaju, Scientist (Ento.), Dr. T. VijayaNirmala, Scientist (Vet. Sci.),
KVK, Venkataramannagudem and Mrs. Vasantha Lakshmi, Lecturer,
Govt. Degree College were the resource persons for the training program. The participants were
exposed to the quality evaluation and processing of fish and shrimps. They also prepared the value
added products like fish cutlet, fish balls, fish pickle, prawn pickle etc. Dr. R.V.S.K. Reddy, Director of
Extension has interacted with the participants about the product preparation and took the feedback
from the participants during the valedictory session.
Site Selection
On 11.09.2017, Dr.A.Srinivas, Sr.Scientist & Head and Dr.P.Manjari,
Scientist (Veterinary Science), KVK, Pandirimamidi surveyed Bhupati-
palem reservoir and finalized the site for launching of cages for Fish
Culture under ICAR-TSP project.

Diagnostic Visits
Dr.G.Ramanandam, Principal Scientist (Hort.) and Dr.N.B.V.Chalapathi
Rao, Senior Scientist (Ento.), HRS, Ambajipeta carried out diagnostic
field visit to coconut and cocoa in West Godavari district and noticed
the incidence of bagworm, chaffer beetle on cocoa and iron deficiency
and suggested remedies to farmers on 08.09.2017.
Dr. B. Srinivasulu, Senior Scientist & Head, HRS, Anantapuramu
diagnosed banana orchard infected with Erwinia rot at
Venkatapuram village, Bukkarayasamudram mandal on 08.09.2017
and suggested the remedial measures.
Dr. B. Srinivasulu, Senior Scientist & Head and Dr. P. Deepthi, Scientist
(Plant Pathology) HRS, Anantapuramu diagnosed mango orchard
suffered with moisture stress at Open Agricultural Jail Farm,
Bukkarayasamudram mandal, Anantapuramu on 08.09.2017 and
suggested the package of practices to be followed.
On 06.09.2017, Smt. Padmaja, Project Director, ATMA, Smt. Suneetha,
Deputy Project Director, ATMA along with Sri P. Raja Sekhar, Scientist
(SS&AC) and Miss Sri Vidya Rani.N, Scientist (Extn.), KVK,
Pandirimamidi visited paddy variety MTU-1153 (Chandra) and MTU-
1156 (Tarangini), french bean variety Arka Arjun and IPDM in Chilli
demonstrations sponsored by ATMA in Indukurpeta, Devaram and
Bandapalli villages of Rampachodavaram division.
On 08.09.2017, Sri P. Raja Sekhar, Scientist (SS&AC), KVK, Pandirima-
midi visited CFLD on Redgram var. LRG-52 at D.N.Palem village of
Devipatnam mandal for follow up and observed the crop which was at
vegetative stage (40-45 DAS) and suggested to do clipping of terminal
shoot tips followed by prophylactic sprays with neem oil @ 5 ml/l of
water at flower initiation stage.
On 11.09.2017 and 15.09.2017, Sri G.Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl.
Path.), KVK, Vonipenta visited turmeric (Var. Mydukur local) fields
for diagnosis of pest and disease incidence at Kothapalli and Adired-
dypalli villages of Mydukur mandal respectively and observed the
turmeric leaf spot infection, iron and zinc deficiency. Recommended
spraying of mancozeb@2.5 g/l or thiophanate methyl@1 g/l at 15
days interval 3 to 4 times against turmeric leaf spot, ferrous sulphate @5 g/l and zinc sulphate@5
g/l two times in 15 days interval to rectify iron and zinc deficiency.
Dr. V. Sivakumar, Scientist (Hort.) & Head, HRS, Chintapalli explained
the cultivation of turmeric and ginger in raised bed method by following
good management practices to the farmers of Gramabhyudaya farming
community, Madugula mandal, Visakhapatnam dist.

On 14.09.2017, Sri G.Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl. Path.), KVK,
Vonipenta visited onion and banana fields for diagnosis of pest and
disease incidence at Musalnayanapalli village of Mydukur mandal and
observed leaf spot incidence in onion and bacterial soft rot disease in
banana. Recommended application of Mancozeb@3g/l or Chlorotha-
lonil@2.5 g/l against onion leaf spot. Removal and destruction of
infected plants followed by application of bleaching powder@25 g/l or pseudomonas @ 50g/l
against bacterial soft rot disease in banana.
On 01.09.2017, G.Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Venkataraman-
nagudem conducted diagnostic field visit to vegetable fields viz.
ridge gourd, IVY gourd, bitter gourd, bhendi, brinjal and cucumber
in Raavigudem, Mettugudem, Kaapavaram, Koyyarajamundry and
Marlagudem and demonstrated the release of parasitods viz.
T.chilonis & Bracon sps and also explained about the importance of
parasitoids in suppression of pests under ICAR – TSP project entitled “Introduction of Improved
vegetable cultivation in tribal areas”.
On 13.09.2017, G.Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Venkataramanna-
gudem visited OFT fields on “Assessment of Nutritional enriched
paddy variety DRR dhan – 45 in tribal areas” and observed infestation
of leaf folder & sheath blight and released T.chilonis @ 20000 per
acre for the control of leaf folder and suggested to spray hexacono-
zole @ 2 ml or propiconozole 1 ml or validamycin @ 2 ml per lit of
water two times at 15 days interval for the control of sheath blight.
On 13.09.2017, G.Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Venkataraman-
nagudem visited black gram and green gram fields under Cluster
Frontline Demonstrations (CFLDs) on pulses in Veerannagudem and
Tirumalapuram villages and observed incidence of spodoptera
litura, White fly and thrips damage and suggested to spray novalu-
ron@1ml/l for spodoptera, installation of yellow and blue sticky
traps@20 per acre and spraying of acephate@1 g/l for sucking pest complex.
Tribal Sub Plan
On 01.09.2017, Dr.A.Srinivas, Sr.Scientist & Head and
Dr. P.Manjari, Scientist (Veterinary Science), KVK, Pandirima-
midi distributed 300 number of Aseel poultry birds to 30 Tribal
farmers of Kunduluru, Kokkiragudem and Yerrakondapaka
villages of Chintur mandal under Tribal Sub-plan. Sri Chinna-
babu, Project Officer, ITDA-Chintur attended the programme
and advised the farmers to effectively use the birds as source of
livelihood. The programme was conducted in collaboration with
Sitara and RED NGO. On 04.09.2017 and 05.09.2017, 400 number of Aseel poultry birds were
distributed to tribal farmers of Bandapalli and Tamarapalli villages of Rampachodavaram mandal
and Devaram village of Devipatnam mandal.

Murrel fish fingerlings were distributed to the farmers having small
tanks/ponds on 13.09.2017 by Dr. A.Devivaraprasad Reddy, Scien-
tist (Fishery Science), KVK, Venkataramannagudem. The murrel
fish fingerlings are stocked along with composite fish culture to ob-
tain additional income to the farmers as the murrels fetch high
price along with high nutritional quality.
General
Workshops and Trainings
Dr.D.Srihari, Dean of P.G Studies attended National Conference on Technological Chanllenges in
social, environmental and Agricultural Reforms (TECHSEAR-2017) on 9th -10th September, 2017 at
IIRR, Hyderabad and chaired the session on ‘Protected Cultivation-Scope’ on 09.09.2017.
Dr.G.Ramanandam, Principal Scientist (Hort.), Dr.N.B.V.Chalapathi Rao, Sr.Scientist (Ento.) and Smt.
E. Padma, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Ambajipeta participated and delivered lectures on “Protection and
production technologies” along with display of specimen exhibits in the stall on coconut on World
Coconut Day 2nd September, 2017 organized by Coconut Development Board, Vijayawada, Andhra
Pradesh.

Smt. E. Padma, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Ambajipeta attended work shop on Neera and its value added
products at K.Hotel, Vijayawada being organized by Department of Horticulture, Govt. of A.P. and
Coconut Development Board on 03.09.17.
Dr. V. Sivakumar, Scientist (Hort.) & Head, HRS, Chintapalli attended “International symposium on
Horticulture: Priorities and Emerging Trends” held at Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru from
05.09.2017 to 08.09.2017 and has given oral presentation on ‘Heterosis for yield attributing traits
in brinjal (Solanum melongena L.)’.
Sri P. Raja Sekhar, Scientist (SS&AC), KVK, Pandirimamidi has
attended Initiation Programme for Project Work in Natural Farming
organized by Dept. of Agriculture at ITDA, Rampachodavaram on
07.08.2017. Details of project work in natural farming were
discussed with chief guest Sri Dinesh Kumar, Project Officer, ITDA-
Rampachodavaram. In this programme, Dr. MutyalaRao, Vice-
Chancellor, Aadhikavi Nannayya University, Rajahmundry, Dr. D. Srinivas Reddy, ADA, Rampacho-
davaram and students from Aadhikavi Nannayya University have participated.
Dr. V. Sivakumar, Scientist (Hort.) & Head, HRS, Chinatapalli attended a farmer training programme
on “Effect of Climate change on Agriculture” as resource person held at RARS, Chintapalli on
15.09.2017 organized by Regional Agricultural Research Station, Chintapalli and delivered a lecture
on “Good Management practices in horticultural crops”.
Dr.E.Karunasree, Sr.Scientist & Head, KVK, Venkataramannagudem
attended three days training programme on "Extension Strategies for
Promotion of climate smart livelihood opportunities” at MANAGE,
Hyderabad from 12th to 14th September, 2017.

Dr. K. Uma Jyothi, Associate Dean along with Associate
Dean’s representatives Dr. R.V.Sujatha, Asst. Prof (Ag. Econ.)
and Dr. Zehra Salma, Asst. Prof (Hort.) visited RAWEP
villages allotted to HRS, Ambajipeta and HRS, Kovvur, inter-
acted with the students and their host farmers and reviewed
the performance of the students on 09.09.2017.
Dr. V. Damodhar Naidu, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Dr. N.V. Naidu,
Director of Research, Dr. K. Raja Reddy, Director of Extension,
ANGRAU visited pomegranate varietal trial at HRS, Anantapuramu
on 14.09.2017 and Dr. B. Srinivasulu, Senior Scientist & Head,
HRS, Anantapuramu explained the characters of red tamarind
variety.
Dr. J. Dilip Babu, Director of Research visited Horticultural Research
Station, Chintapalli on 13.09.2017 and reviewed Centre of Excellence
for Orchids, performance of different varieties of orchids and also
reviewed technical programme for the year 2017-18 under plan and
non-plan.
On 14.09.2017, farmers from Narsipatnam division of
Visakhapatnam district visited KVK, Venkataramannagudem and
scientists of KVK explained about different activities and shown
the demonstration plots and also visited Center of Excellence for
Protected Cultivation in the campus.
