We exist to make active lives possible

Why sport / physical activity?

• Regular participation in sport associated with reduced risk of 20 health conditions, including some cancers

• Of disabled people involved with sport clubs/groups:

– 70% said it helped them meet people they wouldn’t have otherwise

– 50% said that it made them feel more independent

Sport England

• Funded by DCMS and the Lottery to increase participation in sport / physical activity

• Invests in 46 National Governing Bodies for Sport

• Invests in facilities to play sport

• Has open ‘funding rounds’ for specific projects

• Has invested £171,000,000 into increasing participation amongst disabled people

English Federation of Disability Sport

• National charity and body dedicated to disabled people in sport and physical activity throughout England

• Work with other home nations to ensure shared goals

• A Sport England national partner • Actively encourage engagement of disabled people in

all aspects of sport and physical activity• Provide expertise, support, advice and information • Actively promote and share better practice to

increase opportunities
