WAVERTONPENINSULAPROJECT

//NOVEMBER, 2013//PHOTOSHOP, AUTOCAD//SKETCHUP, INDESIGN

1

The final project for a second year University Design Studio. The project brief was to design a space for experimental art. The work was to be integrated into the historical Waverton peninsula site, and its coal loader platform .

The project challenged me to think of solutions for thematic problems at both the large and small scale, rather than resolving design challenges on a case-by-case basis. BUILDING A

Traditional construction and rigorous drafting detailing is just as important as important as a good design sense.

The project brief was to produce a set of construction drawings including wall sections, details, fire proofing and water proofing solutions in accordance with the BCA. Following this I produced a successful model that detailed my wall section with materials representing the building materials.

AUSTRALIAN TIMBER DESIGN WORKSHOP

//JANUARY, 2013//CARDBOARD, BOXBOARD//RHINO, SKETCHUP//TIMBER, MDF, PLYWOOD//CORRUGATED STEEL ROOFING

ME!Working as part of an Architectural collaboration, myself and a consort of other designers worked together to design, implement and construct a shed, shade and seating structure. The work was done by commision of St Finn Barr’s primary school in Launcestan, TAS.

One of the biggest challenges of the project was working with such a large, diversified group of individuals, including students of Architecture and Interior architecture from across the nation, licensed builders and carpenters as well as professional architects such as Peter Booth (of Booth & Watts).

My personal roles included team management, co-ordination and communication, and acting as one of two chosen students working with Rhino, Grasshoper and proprietry software from a Hong Kong firm to create a polymorphic shade structure.

THE VALUE OF EMPTY SPACE

As a compliment to an essay on the works of Peter Zumthor and Alvaro Siza, I designed and produced a thirteen page layout that was commended for its sensible design, typography and use of white space.

LEARN.

Collaboration on a number of interactive experiences. As half of a two man team I manage art direction, interactive design, audio design, rapid idea implementation, and marketing.

These personal projects have taught me a lot about hard work and determination, as well as the value of a cohesive design focus.
