Digital Geographic Data
This catalog lists the major, off-the-shelf spatial data products available from the LandManagement Information Center. Included are the most commonly requested data files inthe most popular formats. Data are delivered in Universal Transverse Mercator coordinatesin meters, using extended Zone 15 in NAD27. All ARC/INFO export file coordinates arewritten in double precision. Each data set can be delivered on 8 mm magnetic tape cartridgeas UNIX TAR files or, when file size is not prohibitive, 3.5-inch DOS-readable floppy disk. The price for each file unit is included in the product description. DXF files can be producedfor a small additional set-up fee.
Some data sets can be obtained from other sources, most notably the U.S. GeologicalSurveys Earth Sciences Information Center at (800) USA-MAPS. Other sources areidentified in the product description.
Data files are delivered as they exist in the LMIC archive. As new data holdings becomeavailable, this catalog will be updated. For special processing of data orders, double-to-singleprecision conversion, reprojection, assembly of data in different geographic regions andother services, contact the LMIC Project Services Office at (612) 296-1202.

These aquatic ecoregions were defined in 1987 by Omernik and associates at theCorvallis Environmental Research Laboratory of the U.S. Environmental ProtectionAgency. Stream traces for each major river basin are stored separately. Major riversencompassing more than one major watershed (Mississippi, Minnesota, Red, Rainyand St. Croix) are stored as individual files. River point markers are also available.Major river traces are from early (mid-1970s) digitizing and do not capture all theriver sinuosity as it appears on the maps.

Watershed Boundaries U.S. Natural Resources ConservationService
NRCS watersheds, based on the Conservation Needs Inventory, are smaller thanDepartment of Natural Resources major watersheds and are usually aggregations ofDNR minor watersheds. CNI watersheds were developed in 1967 and delineated oncounty highway maps. In 1985, the NRCS took existing CNI maps and redefinedCNI watersheds in terms of DNR minor watersheds. LMIC created the new CNIwatershed file using the 1:100,000-scale vector DNR major and minor watershedfile and a translation table.

Wetlands
The National Wetlands Inventory provides wetlands information for the nation andis administered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. NWI wetland types arecategorized by plant and soil type, and frequency of flooding characteristics asdefined in the Classification of Wetlands and Deepwater Habitats of the UnitedStates by Cowardin and associates, published in 1979. Wetlands interpretation wasperformed by the FWS using aerial photography and transferred to standard 7.5-minute U.S. Geological Survey quadrangle maps. Digitization from those maps wasperformed by private contractors and is available from the FWS in DLG format.

Water Resources Information SystemsLMIC has several integrated information systems focused on ground and surfacewater. Data contained in these information systems are available as ARC/INFOcoverages or as ASCII or INFO tables. Most data files used by these systems aredescribed in previous sections of this catalog. Additional, project-specific graphicfiles and data tables are described below.
Wells from County Well Index
These files contain known wells from the Minnesota Geological Surveys CountyWell Index, converted by LMIC to ARC/INFO point cover. Some wells are plottedby MGS at 1:24,000 scale and digitized. Other well point locations are calculatedfrom unverified PLSS reported on water well driller log form. A Location Accuracyidentifier is stored for all wells. Attribute information includes: well ownership, welldepth, use, elevation, and PLSS location, among other data. A Minnesota UniqueWell Number or W-Series number is associated with all wells.
