JAMMU, Dec 28: Ministerfor PHE, Irrigation & FloodControl Sham Lal Chaudharytoday chaired a meeting toreview the physical and financialachievements of Department ofPHE under various schemes inJammu division, besides dis-cussing the issues related to ensu-ing Budget Session at CompanyBagh meeting hall here.

Secretary PHE, I&FCDepartment Sanjeev Verma,Director Finance PHE, I&FCDepartment Mahesh Das, ChiefEngineer, PHE Jammu SusheelAima and other senior officers ofthe department were present inthe meeting.

The Minister directed theconcerned officers to file preciseand accurate answers to thequeries raised by the legislators.He also enquired about theactions taken by the departmenton the issues raised by the legis-lators in their respective con-stituencies.

During the meeting, theMinister also instructed the offi-cers to prepare a comprehensive

list of land donors who gavetheir land to the department forcreation of public assets andinstructed to submit the same tohis office at an earliest. The offi-cers were further asked to submitdetails of vacancies in thedepartment so that they could beforwarded to recruiting agenciesfor necessary action.

The Minister further directedfor immediate removal of illegalconnections, besides issuingdirections for fixing leakages inwater pipes.

Later, Secretary, PHE, I&FCDepartment Sanjeev Verma alsoconvened a meeting with theofficers of Irrigation & FloodControl department to discussthe pace of de-silting of variouscanals in Jammu.

The Secretary directed theofficers to expedite the de-siltingworks in the canals so that unin-terrupted water reaches the agri-cultural fields.

under-construction Maternity &Pediatric Hospital at Beminaand took stock of the ongoingwork. He was informed that500-bedded hospital being con-structed at an estimated cost ofRs 70.63 crore would be com-pleted within stipulated timeframe.

JAMMU, Dec 28: SpecialJudge Anticorruption JammuSanjeev Gupta today decided 20years old corruption case andawarded two and half yearsimprisonment and fine of Rs45000 to Shiv Dev Singh, thethen Cashier of State RoadTransport Corporation.

According to the Vigilancecase, the accused during hisposting as Cashier in WorkshopUnit of SRTC had allegedly mis-appropriated Rs 8,70,011 by notdepositing the amount of GPFund deductions of the employ-ees of JKSRTC in theGovernment Treasury from theyear 1995 to the year 2000.

Separate charge-sheets bifur-cated year wise showing theembezzled amount were filedin the court after the conclusionof investigation.

After hearing CPO

Harminder Singh for the State,Special Judge Anticorruptionobserved, “the accused wasdealing with the property ofGovernment in his capacity asCashier of SRTC but his actcaused loss to the employees ofCorporation”.

“The court cannot takelenient view in awarding sen-tence on the ground of sympathyor delay, particularly, if it relatesto embezzlement of GPF contri-butions of employees ofCorporation intended to benefitthem at the twilight of theirlives”, the court said.

Accordingly, he was award-ed simple imprisonment for oneyear under Prevention ofCorruption Act and simpleimprisonment for one year forthe offence under Section 409RPC. The accused was alsoawarded simple imprisonmentfor six months for the offenceunder Section 477-A RPC.

On 2nd day of the camp,more than 60 patients wereoperated and 60 were still to beoperated. The patients werescreened at Aghar Jitto andReasi and parts of theUdhampur district, and wereoperated by Dr Ankur Goel(Ophthalmic Surgeon) and DrRicha Muldiyar (OphthSurgeon).

The camp was organized byRotary Club Udhampur in col-laboration with Rotary Eye &ENT Hospital Udhampur andDistrict Blindness ControlSociety. The camp was organ-ized for prevention of blind-ness and supported by ArjunMahajan, a citizen of USA.

According to an official handout issued here, Justice Nazkiwhile inspecting these jails took stock of living condition of the jailinmates vis-a-vis medical care, educational and vocational activi-ties, legal aid, diet, water, heating and library facilities etc.

One killed, minorinjured in road accidents

SRINAGAR, Dec 28: Police today said a person was killedwhile a minor girl was injured in two separate road accidents inBaramulla and Anantnag districts of Valley.

A police spokesman said an unknown vehicle hit a motorcyclebearing registration number JK016-7567 driven by ManzoorAhmad along National Highway at Pattan near Hanjiwara GupanGalli in north Kashmir's Baramula district, resulting in injuries tothe motorcyclist.

The injured was shifted to SKIMS Soura Srinagar for treatmentwhere doctors declared him brought dead, he said, adding that aftercompletion of medico legal formalities, the body of the deceasedwas handed over to his legal heirs for last rites.

The police spokesman said a Scooty bearing registration num-ber JK03C-4321 hit a minor girl namely Sani Jan at Anantnag dis-trict. The injured was shifted to District Hospital Anantnag fortreatment where from she was referred to SKIMS Soura Srinagarfor further treatment.

JAMMU, Dec 28: A thirty-member deputation of ASHAWorkers Union Jammu, affiliatedwith CITU and headed by ShamPrasad Kesar senior leader ofCITU, met the Mission Director,Nation Health Mission Jammuand put forth a charter ofdemands before him.

During the meeting theydemanded that NHM should bemade permanent health pro-gramme, ASHA workers be reg-ularised as Health workers andthey should be paid minimumwages of Rs 18000 per month,until this is implemented.

Kesar demanded that ASHAworkers be paid fixed monthlyamount in addition to theirincentives and they should becovered under `Aam Admi BimaYojna' like Anganwadi wokers,moreover, they should get allsocial security benefits like pen-sion, gratuity, maternity benefitsas recommended by 45th IndianLabour Conference.

It was also stressed uponthe authorities to provide restrooms in all Health Centres, pro-vision of uniforms, ID Cards,bus passes, BPL Cards etc to theASHA workers. They shouldalso be provided some addition-al amount under JananiSuraksha Yojna for postnatalcheck up, immununization, vac-cine carrier, monthly registrationof birth and death, listing of eli-gible couples, list of ANC bene-ficiaries besides TA / DA for themonthly meetings.

The Mission Director gavea patience hearing and assuredthat the demands within hiscompetence would be consid-ered favourably and otherswould be forwarded to theauthorities concerned.
