    The programme began withthe lighting of the ceremoniallamp by the chief guest, ShamLal Sharma, Sr Vice PresidentJ&K PCC and former Minister,while Parveen Sharma,Chairman Citizen CooperativeBank, Kaushal Sharma SSP and

    Kulbushan Magotra werethe guests of honour on theoccasion.

    Students attired in fascinat-ing dresses presented differentcultural items including FaujiDance, Dogri Dance, Karate andpatriotic songs which were high-

    ly applauded by the audience.Speaking on the occasion,

    Sham Lal stressed the urgentneed to introduce Dogri in theschool curriculum.

    He further stressed on theawareness and unity of Dograsfor the upliftment of Dogri lan-guage.

    Earlier, the Principal of theschool, Seema Sharma read outthe annual report highlightingthe key achievements of theschool.

    The students were also felic-itated for their achievements infield of academics and other cocurricular activities.

    Later, Sharma also distrib-uted prizes amongst the studentswho excelled in academics andco-curricular activities.

    petition 'Sur Sangam' inwhich around 10 reputedschools of Jammu participat-ed.

    Rajinder Gupta, SSPAirport Authority of Indiawas the chief guest on theoccasion, while Dr. UshaKher, DySP Anti-Hijacking,Airport Authority Jammu wasthe guest of honour.

    Among the judges wereDharmesh Nargotra- notedGazal singer and JagdeepSingh, retired ProgrammeExecutive Doordarshan,Jammu and Virender Kapadia,Senior vocalist, song anddrama division.

    The categories for thecompetition were junior, sen-ior and solo.

    The programme startedwith the lighting of lamp fol-lowed by a welcome dance.

    The students were wellprepared for the competition.

    The judges appreciatedmusical tone and texture ofthe students. The nuances ofthe music were also well fol-lowed by them.

    In Junior Category, KCInternational School, DoonInternational School and

    Jammu Sanskriti Schoolsecured 1st, 2nd and 3rd posi-tions respectively, while inSenior Category, Doon

    International School won firstplace, KC InternationalSchool clinched second spotand the third position wasclaimed by KC Public School.

    In Solo Category, KCInternational School, Mt. ZeeLitera School, Kathua and KCGuruklul Public Schoolbagged the first three spots.

    The musical day conclud-ed with the vote of thanks bythe Principal, SubendhuSarkar, who lauded the effortsput in by the staff and the stu-dents of various schools.

    APS Jammu Cantt celebrates Annual Day

    JAMMU, Dec 23: ArmyPublic School (APS) JammuCantt celebrated its Annual Dayamidst great zest, vibrancy ela-tion, here today.

    The ceremonial function waspresided over by the chief guest,Major General Sanjay Singh(SM VSM).

    Among other dignitaries,Brig TK Chopra, Chairman APSJammu Cantt, Col ManojGurung Offg SO Schools andPrincipal of other Army PublicSchools graced the occasion.

    The Program started with thewarm welcome of the guest fol-lowed by the lighting of ceremo-nial lamp.

    The cultural program basedon the theme 'Panch Tatvam'enthralled the audience whichincluded action song, DogriDance, Bhangra and BambooDance.

    This was followed by PrizeDistribution Ceremony wherethe chief guest gave away prizes

    Ratna Mallick presented theSchool Annual Report.

    The program was to be afinal crescendo with the musicof string instruments and thefoot tapping, enthusiastic ShivTandav.

    KATHUA, Dec 23: The resi-dents of Ram Singh Colony heldprotest against PHE Department.

    During protest, the residentsincluding women raised slogansin favour of their demands.

    One of the protesting womensaid that they are facing acuteshortage of drinking water forthe past over one week.

    "How can we survive and

    send our children to schoolswithout availability of drinkingwater", she questioned.

    The residents warned tocome on roads if PHEDepartment failed to provideregular drinking water to them.

    Two arrested forraping minor girl

    JAMMU, Dec 23: Two per-sons have been arrested for rap-ing a minor girl.

    As per police sources, acomplaint was filed by familymembers of a girl with PoliceStation Domana stating thatShami, son of Des Raj andDeepu, son of Kamal Dass, bothresidents of Santwa, Pouni Chaktook turns to rape their minordaughter.

    Acting swiftly, a team fromDomana Police Station conduct-ed raid and arrested both therapist.

    The girl has been handedover to family members afterconducting medical examina-tion.

    A case under FIR Number391/17 under Section 376 RPChas been registered at DomanaPolice Station and further inves-tigation into the case is going on.
