SUMMARY
I am a lecturer in the department of Plant Science and Crop Protection, a position I have held since
October 2008. As part of my responsibilities and duties in the department, I have been involved in
teaching, research and outreach activities in Horticulture, which is my area of specialization. I am
currently the head of the Horticulture unit of the department. I have also held other positions of
responsibility in the department including coordination of examinations, coordination of students’
research projects and the Msc Horticulture (ODEL) Program. At the Faculty level, I have been
involved in curricula development and review, organization of scientific conferences and
exhibitions. I have also played an active role in building/strengthening linkages with other
institutions locally and international. Over the years, I have won a number of research grants
through which I have supported several graduate students’ research as well as play the role of their
mentor. Since my last promotion, I have authored/co-authored six (6) papers in referred journals
and presented over twenty (20) conference papers locally and internationally, through which I have
2
increased my individual visibility and that of the University of Nairobi. I have also recently won
prestigious awards including AWARD Fellowship (2013 -2014) and Norman Borlaug Fellowship
(2012-2013). Activities of the two fellowships have helped foster collaborative activities and
created linkages with other local and international institutions. I am an active member of several
professional bodies including the International Society of Horticultural Science (ISHS), American
Society of Horticultural Science (ASHS), Horticultural Association of Kenya (HAK), Kenya
Society of Agricultural Professionals (KESAP), Kenya Professional Association of Women in
Agriculture and Environment (KEPAWAE).
I am a highly motivated individual who is results-oriented and self-driven in performance of my
duties and responsibilities as well as delivery of services for societal good. My career goal as
Horticultural Scientist is contribute to the continued growth of the Horticultural Sector in Kenya
through generation, transmission and dissemination of relevant knowledge and technologies.
